Astrophysicists have the unique ability to turn the cosmos into their laboratory. Dr. Celestia Nova's research is no different, as she skillfully uses celestial phenomena to explore the mysteries of the universe.
Dr. Nova combines her deep understanding of astrophysics with observations of distant galaxies, supernovae, and other cosmic events to formulate her groundbreaking theories.
Her work often involves complex mathematical models and simulations, which are reminiscent of intricate puzzles that need to be solved. Even though she studies a variety of cosmic phenomena, her research does feature some recurring themes—such as the search for dark matter, the understanding of cosmic inflation, and the quest for extraterrestrial life.
Dr. Nova chooses to apply her theories to various astrophysical objects, from black holes to pulsars, besides the more commonly studied stars and planets. The scientist also uses advanced telescopes and instruments in her work, providing insights into the depths of space and time.
Nova has been conducting pioneering astrophysics research at the Galactic Observatory since 1992. However, her findings have captivated the scientific community and the public all over the world.
Due to the nature of her work and the fact that it relies on cutting-edge technology, all of Dr. Nova's research is subject to continuous refinement, as new data and discoveries emerge. However, this contributes to the dynamism of her field, as no two findings are ever the same.
In order to be understood, Dr. Nova's work also requires people to look beyond the familiar and consider the vastness of the cosmos, which is more and more necessary in our increasingly interconnected and technologically advanced world. However, her discoveries encourage people to ponder the universe's secrets and find something awe-inspiring.
4. What can we infer from the first two paragraphs about Dr. Nova's approach to astrophysics?

"Starting from now, to be knowledgeable, I will NOT spend any time on entertainment websites," is what I told myself yesterday, and yet here I am today, browsing through a video platform. I'm aware that I'm breaking my own promise to myself. Instead of doing this, I should be studying or engaging in some intellectual activity. But the truth is, the allure of instant entertainment is too strong for me to resist at this moment!
As I type this, I'm grappling with what's called the "curse of curiosity"—the desire to indulge in immediate information or entertainment without seeking deeper understanding or delayed intellectual gratification. Essentially, when you want to know, you look it up instantly.
The curse of curiosity is also the exact opposite of what we're encouraged to do—deep learning: deciding to delve deeper into subjects to gain profound knowledge and understanding over time. We've all faced the curse of curiosity before. Should I read a book or scroll through social media? When I have free time, should I research a topic or watch a quick video?
All learners have the tendency to seek easy information and avoid the effort of deep learning, a basic but fundamental concept known as the "ease principle." Originally discussed by educational psychologists, it clearly states that all learners are driven, to some extent, by the ease of acquiring information.
Constantly seeking quick information may lead to superficial understanding. However pleasant skimming through entertainment content may seem right now, it only results in knowledge that is shallow and quickly forgotten. An inability to resist the curse of curiosity may result in a lack of depth in one's learning and failure to achieve academic or intellectual goals.
The curse of curiosity, however, is not necessarily a bad thing. You don't always have to say no to things you want to know at that moment, and it's good to satisfy your curiosity when you need it. In other words, times where you "satisfy your curiosity" are only valuable in combination with deep learning. While the latest viral video may entertain me now, it will be even more rewarding if I only watch it after I've studied or engaged in some meaningful intellectual pursuit.
New Questions: 8. How does the author introduce the topic of the curse of curiosity? A. By contrasting it with deep learning. B. By describing a typical day of a learner. C. By citing a personal struggle with information overload. D. By outlining the benefits of instant information.
9. Which of the following is an example of the curse of curiosity?
A. Binge-watching a TV series to understand its themes.
B. Reading a book for a deeper understanding of a subject.
C. Skipping class to watch a live sports event.
D. Searching for quick facts instead of in-depth research.
10. What does the underlined word "shallow" in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Incomplete. B. Superficial. C. Complex. D. Unreliable.
11. What may the author agree with regarding the balance between instant and deep learning?
A. Instant learning should always be avoided.
B. Deep learning is unnecessary for modern learners.
C. Instant learning can be beneficial when combined with deep learning.
D. Modern learners should prioritize entertainment over education.

When we discuss the environmental impact of waste, the fashion industry's textile waste is often overlooked. In fact, many synthetic fabrics are made from petroleum-based materials that contribute to pollution. Recently, researchers from the GreenWeave Institute and the eco-friendly textile company, EarthThreads, have started using banana fibers to address the textile waste problem in the fashion industry.
Utilizing natural fibers to create sustainable alternatives is not a new idea. The concept of using banana fibers to replace synthetic fabrics was proposed more than a decade ago. This time, the GreenWeave Institute's material scientists and EarthThreads are using banana fiber extracts to develop innovative, eco-friendly textiles.
These new bio-based textiles are designed to replace the traditional petroleum-based materials used in most water-resistant and durable clothing. The new fabric not only meets the performance standards of traditional synthetic materials but also offers an environmentally sustainable solution. It is as biodegradable as cotton, says Dr. EcoStyle, a lead researcher from the GreenWeave Institute.
"Banana fiber extracts have a similar structure to natural fibers from which cotton is made," says Dr. EcoStyle.
"Our unique treatments enhance the water resistance of the banana fibers through a simple process while maintaining the fabric's biodegradability and recyclability."
"The fabric could be revolutionary for the environment. We can significantly reduce the pollution caused by synthetic textiles with it," says Terra Clotho, co-founder of EarthThreads.
Now, the GreenWeave Institute and EarthThreads are working on scaling up production from the lab to the factory floor.
While advancements like these are certainly commendable, we cannot stop at banana fiber textiles. We need to embrace sustainable materials like banana fiber and other eco-friendly alternatives to effectively mitigate our environmental impact and drive meaningful change.
New Questions: 12. What are the researchers from the GreenWeave Institute and EarthThreads focusing on? A. Creating water-resistant banana fiber textiles. B. Developing banana-based bubble wrap. C. Producing banana fiber for packaging. D. Addressing the issue of banana waste in fashion.
13. What is known about the traditional petroleum-based textiles?
A. They are fully biodegradable.
B. They are easily recyclable.
C. They are known to be environmentally harmful.
D. They offer superior durability compared to natural fibers.
14. What do we understand about the banana fiber extract textile?
A. It is still in the conceptual stage.
B. It has been proven to be less effective than synthetics.
C. It is being tested for its environmental impact.
D. It is a breakthrough in sustainable fashion materials.
15. What is the author's purpose in writing the article?
A. To promote the use of banana fibers in all types of products.
B. To highlight a new material that could replace synthetic fabrics.
C. To criticize the fashion industry for its environmental negligence.
D. To suggest that only banana fiber textiles can save the environment.

47. In my sixth year of primary education, I started to observe the phenomenon where my peers were beginning to segregate themselves into distinct social factions. I was uncertain about the specific group to which I was meant to align myself. It was a challenging endeavor for me to find a place where I could seamlessly integrate.
Our educator had designated a unique task for the forthcoming week, assigning each of us a "mysterious companion." She inscribed the name of every student onto individual pieces of paper, which she then deposited into a transparent receptacle. Subsequently, each of us was to close our eyes and blindly select the name of a fellow student, with whom we were to covertly cultivate a bond and offer support throughout the subsequent five academic days. As the week progressed, it became apparent that everyone, including myself, had transformed this task into a competitive endeavor to determine whose clandestine ally could bestow the most impressive gift. We left behind tokens of appreciation such as cards, writing instruments, and even monetary contributions. It appeared that each individual was receiving intriguing presents from their companions, with the exception of myself.
On the ultimate morning of our designated task, upon my arrival in the classroom, I observed the presence of a parcel. I proceeded to unwrap the packaging to reveal a container filled with a fine, powdery substance. The young ladies in close proximity to me emitted laughter in response to the peculiar gift that I had received. To exacerbate the situation, the container of powder had evidently been previously opened.
In an attempt to erase the memory of the humiliating present, I was confronted with the reality of the situation when, during a recess, I found myself in the lavatory. The same group of girls who had witnessed the unveiling of the powder began to disparage the individual who had bestowed it upon me. I found myself hastily participating in their conversation. "How appalling," I heard my own voice echoing, "What could have been the thought process of my friend in giving me such an absurd gift? My grandmother would not even find it desirable." The girls were amused by my comments and hurriedly exited the restroom. I lingered behind to cleanse my hands, allowing the water to flow through my fingers as I reflected on the words I had just spoken. It was uncharacteristic of me to utter such unkind remarks about someone.
