The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Start of Spring, the
first solar term of the year, lifts the curtain of spring. After that, everything turns green and full of
vigor. Here are some things you should know about Start of Spring.
1.Start of Spring and Spring Festival
Start of Spring had already entered people's lives in the Spring and Autumn Period (770—476 BC). During the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC—AD 24), Start of Spring was set as the Spring Festival.Actually, it was not until 1913 that the Spring Festival was celebrated on the first
day of the first month of the lunar year as now.

happiness.

years ago. They made sacrifices to Gou Mang, the god of Spring, who is in charge of agriculture.By
the Qing Dynasty(1644— 1911),greeting spring had become an important folk activity.
4. Flying a kite
Spring is the best season for kite-flying, a traditional folk activity with a history of more than
2,000 years. It can help build one's health and prevent diseases. Besides, a breath of fresh air outside
can discharge the foul smell accumulated in winter.
5. Biting the spring
In many parts of China, people observe the custom of“biting the spring”on the first day of
Start of Spring. They eat spring pancakes, spring rolls, or a few mouthfuls of carrots.

Like most people, I spent most time on my phone, which made my brain weak.I couldn't remember the name of Joan Holloway's military husband from Mad Men without looking it up, or the name of the guy who would come into my dorm regularly to talk about how much he worked out, or even the boiling time for a soft-boiled egg. None of this was especially useful or life-changing
information, but I wanted to remember it without making a shameful mess of my search history.
Inspired by a desire to see if my brain was capable of neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to change structurally through life in response to experience—I decided to stop looking stuff up online and see what happened. When I couldn't remember the character from Mad Men, instead of instantly turning to my phone, I just sat there, thinking, very hard.(Aha! Greg was his name.)And so my new
skill was born: Strong Brain.
Honestly, it took me a while to achieve Strong Brain. For a few months, I didn't make any progress. Sometimes I would sit without knowing something for hours. People liked to laugh at me when I couldn't remember the names of the heroines from Dune. While the laugh got louder and louder, my brain got better in my defense. After six months, it was remarkably stronger. At a party, as friends tried to remember the name of the actor who played Robin Williams's lover in Jumanji,I
blurted out(脱口而出)“Bonnie Hunt”without even trying.
There are many benefits of having Strong Brain. If you're like me and have always wanted to
be the shiny, pretty person at a party, I think Strong Brain is the party trick for you.
24.Why couldn't the author recall certain information?
A. He didn't take it seriously.
B.He had his brain fully occupied.
C. He relied heavily on smart devices.
D.He had no access to search engines.
25.How did the author achieve Strong Brain?
A.By surfing. B. By practicing. C. By imagining. D.By communicating.
26. What does the writer think of his pursuit of Strong Brain?
A. Upsetting. B.Joyful. C.Painful. D. Rewarding.
27. What's the purpose of this text?
A. To tell a story.
B.To recommend a skill.
C. To introduce a fashion.
D. To analyze a problem.

Nature is like the mechanism in an enormous clock. Everything is neatly arranged and interconnected. Every individual has its place and its function. Take the wolf for example. As meat-eaters, wolves regulate the number of plant eaters so that they do not multiply too rapidly. All
animals and plants are held in a delicate balance.
The wolves remind me of a story from my childhood when my grandfather gave me an old clock. The first thing I did was take the clock apart to find out how it worked. Even though I was convinced that I knew how to put it back together in working order, I couldn't do it.After I rebuilt it, there were a few cogs(轮齿)left over and a grandfather who was not in the best of moods. In the wild, wolves play the role of such cogs. If we remove them, not only do the enemies of sheep and cattle disappear, but the mechanism of nature also begins to run differently, so differently that rivers
change course and many local bird species die out.
And things can also go wrong when a species is added. For example, the introduction of a nonnative fish leads to a massive reduction in the local deer population. Because of a fish? The earth's ecosystems, it seems, are a bit too complex for us to draw up simple rules of cause and effect. Even conservation measures can have unexpected results. Who knew, for example, that recovering crane(鹤)populations in Europe would affect the production of Iberian ham?
So it's high time we took a good look at the interconnections between species both large and small. It's important for us to realize that even small interventions can have huge consequences, and
we'd do better to keep our hands off everything in nature that we do not absolutely have to touch.
28.What's one of the wolf's functions in the ecological balance?
A. Organizing plant eaters.
B. Taking out plant eaters.
C.Consuming plant eaters.
D.Casting out plant eaters.
29.What does the author want to show with the story in paragraph 2?
A. Every part counts.
B.Family love lasts.
C.Never be too confident.
D.Clocks are delicate.
30.Why can things also go wrong when a species is added?
A. A nonnative species means death of local ones.
B. The interconnections in nature are complicated.
C.Rules of cause and effect are obvious in nature.
D. Conservation projects are too hard to complete.
31. What does the author suggest people do?
A. Have mercy on small animals.
B. Think twice before stepping in.
C. Take a new look at meat-eaters.
D.Keep hands off in conservation.

China has become the third country to discover a new lunar mineral, behind the US and the former Soviet Union. It is named Changesite-(Y),after the mythological Chinese goddess of the
moon, Chang'e.
The rare lunar crystal(晶体)was found from the samples collected from the moon in 2020. Transparent and roughly the width of a single human hair, it formed in a region of the moon that was volcanically active around 1.2 billion years ago, which is giving scientists hope of providing limitless power for the world. The crystal is made of material previously unknown to the scientific community and contains helium-3,which scientists believe may provide a stable fuel source for nuclear fusion reactors(核聚变反应堆). The element is incredibly rare on Earth, but it seems to be
fairly prevalent on the moon.
For decades, scientists have been interested in helium-3 and its potential source of fuel for nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion reactions occur naturally, when two light atoms combine into a heavier one, under extreme pressure and heat. They take place inside stars, but humans have yet to
create a fusion reactor with enough energy to start the process.
Although it is too early for scientists to have made any financial estimates on such a fuel source, it will undoubtedly be extremely costly. There is, of course, the matter of bringing the crystals back
from the moon, especially in the large amounts that are needed to fuel fusion reactors.
Multiple private companies and countries with space agencies have signaled their intentions to
mine the moon for helium-3, and this latest discovery could start the race.
32.What did Chinese scientists discover?
A.A rare material.
B.A hidden region.
C.A novel application.
D.A new fusion reactor.
33. What does the underlined word“prevalent”in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Common. B.Active. C.Precious. D.Limited.
34. What does paragraph 3 focus on?
A.Places to mine helium-3.
B. The lack of enough energy.
C.The way a fusion reactor works.
D.A possible use of helium-3.
35.Why will Changesite-(Y) be costly as a fuel source?
A. Because of its shape.
B. Because of its quality.
C.Because of its distribution.
D. Because of its storage.

How do you like to sit on a chair? 36 They might be no friend of a campaign called “The Great Cross-Out”where people are encouraged to keep healthy by not crossing their legs for a
whole day.
37 The list of suggested consequences of one knee crossing over the other includes nerve
damage and raised blood pressure. But both of them deserve close examination.
It is true that maintaining a particular position for many hours can lead to nerve damage. But when a study examined a series of patients' notes in order to identify the chief causes, sitting on a chair with one knee over the other didn't feature. In reality nerve damage is an unlikely consequence
of leg-crossing. 38
How about blood pressure? When you get it checked, the doctor tends to ask you not to cross your legs. 39 But when the measurements are repeated just three minutes after uncrossing the
legs, blood pressure will be back to the earlier levels.
So if you like crossing your legs, you're unlikely to do yourself any damage, provided you don't stay in the same position until your legs are numb(麻木的). 40 Whoever is sitting next
to you on the bus or the train will be grateful to you for taking up less room than the man-spreaders.
A.Is it really any healthier to avoid doing so?
B. Many prefer to cross one leg over the other.
C. In fact,leg-crossing could bring extra benefits.
D.You are unable to lift the front part of your foot.
E.It might affect the reading of your blood pressure.
F.Because as soon as we feel uncomfortable, we tend to move.
G. But the evidence for any long-term damage simply isn't there.

By late afternoon, the bar was raised to 2.07 metres. An expectant buzz ( 嗡 嗡 声 )spread through the stands and over the field in the still summer air. Duncan and Bob, two friends, would go
head-to-head for the gold.
With all eyes on the high jump, officials quickly called a stop to competitions elsewhere in the
stadium. An attentive crowd tensed for the final showdown.
Bob had proved himself the better jumper. He would plant the foot closest to the bar as he reached his take-off point, and then kick up hard with the other to lift his hips, which was at the heart of a successful jump. But as that long afternoon wore on, as the two threw themselves over the bar again and again, Duncan found himself with an unexpected advantage over his friend. As a teenager, he'd helped his father, a civil engineer. Dragging all equipment over mountain ridges and down into valleys had been ideal training for a high jumper, adding to his stamina(耐力)and strengthening his
legs.
It was nearly six o'clock, and the two had been jumping for more than three hours—Duncan from the right side, Bob from the left. Both were succeeding on some tries and missing others, but
never in a chain that would make one or the other the winner.
Relaxed and loose, unaware of roars of the huge crowd, the two were feeling less and less like
rivals(对手) in an intense match and more like friends at a daily practice session.
As time went on, however, both jumpers seemed to be tired from the prolonged competition.
Bob, long accustomed to watching his friend with a critical eye, discovered that Duncan hadn't been
conscious of the problem with his kick.
