Dear Rebecca,
Thanks for your letter. It is great to hear from you! I couldn’t be more excited to have a penfriend from the other side of the world!
You asked me to tell you about my favorite day of the week. Well, it’s definitely Friday!
You may wonder why I like Fridays so much. My first reason is that I have my favorite subjects on Friday. I have Physics in the morning and P.E in the afternoon. I think Physics is a very interesting subject. Our Physics teacher Mr. Fan brings us to the science lab to do experiments every week. Mr. Fan is also very kind and humorous. I never get bored in his class. In P. E., I usually play basketball. This is my favorite sport and I’m good at it. There are many excellent players in my class, so we usually win at school basketball competitions. I also have a Computer class on Friday. I am now learning to create a webpage for my class basketball team.
Another reason why I like Fridays the best is that I can relax on Friday evenings as there’s no school(or extra classes) on Saturdays. I often go to the movies with my best friend Liangwei on Friday evenings. Sometimes, I go to his house and have dinner with his family. On Saturdays I usually go to the City Library. I have decided to read at least one book every two weeks. Currently I am reading Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. The novel is about a man who was alone for a long time on a deserted island T like this adventure story very much.
What’s your favorite day of the week? Tell me your answer in your next letter! Hope to hear from you soon.
Love,
Yuhan

When I was ten years old, I became a penfriend with David Lu, a boy living in Beijing. Over the years, I had become more and more interested in Chinese culture. When there was a chance to study in Beijing as an exchange student, I took it at once. In my first twenty-four hours in Beijing, I felt both excited and nervous. I didn’t see one foreigner. But on my first day of school, I was greeted by many foreign faces. The students came from all around the world. I would be in a class with Chelsea from Norway and Charlie from my motherland—the UK.
None of us had studied Chinese before, but our language skills improved quickly. By the end of the first month, we could all make simple sentences. Some of these sentences, though, were quite funny. We often sent our language teacher Sophie into wild laughter.
The first month was very tiring. There were so many new things to become familiar(熟悉)with. Thankfully, our school organized many student events. We talked a lot about cultural differences and our future plans. It was a great opportunity for us to practise speaking Chinese.
In October, David finally had time to show me around the city. Both of us were very excited to see each other. David took me to some of his favourite restaurants. Chinese table manners are very different from those in the West. Eating Chinese food was like an adventure(冒险), and it became my favourite part about living in Beijing.

A.Because some of the students’ sentences were funny.

18.What can we infer from the passage?

13-year-old Alessandra talks about her favorite chat room (聊天室), Teen-Age.
I joined a chat room called Teen-Age last month. A classmate read about it in a magazine and told me all about it. She said it’s a really great way to make friends with people in other countries. And she was right!
Everyone in the chat room is a teenager. We share information about home life, music and films. Friends that I chat to often ask me about school life in Britain. One friend in Spain sometimes asks me to write the words of English songs for her. My favorite thing is finding out how to prepare food people eat in different countries.
Some of my friends in Teen-Age live on the other side of the world, so when I chat to them at lunchtime, it’s nearly midnight where they are. My parents like it that I have international friends, but they get annoyed if I’m chatting to people all evening. They always ask me to finish my homework first.
Many of my school friends have joined several chat rooms, but I won’t ever do that. I like the online friends I have now, so I’ll keep using Teen-Age. If I have friends in different chat rooms, it’ll be too hard to chat to them all.
118.Who told Alessandra something about Teen-Age?

How would you feel if moving to a new town meant losing track of your friends? What if the only way of getting news from faraway friends was writing letters that took ages to be delivered (递送)? This was how things worked not very long ago. Thanks to advances(进步) in technology, how we make friends and communicate with them has changed greatly.
Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in touch with our friends. Social media tools(社交媒体工具) let us see what our friends are busy with and maintain friendships.
The digital age(数字时代) also enables us to find people who share our interests. Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can connect us with others who also enjoy doing them, even if they live on the other side of the world.
But when you “friend” people online, does this mean that they really are your friends? It depends.
If people always exchange true personal information online, then yes, these friendships can be real and meaningful. But we need to remember that what we see on social media is often not the whole truth about a person. Sometimes smiling photos can hide real problems. On the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be sharing our information with criminals.
But this doesn’t mean that we should throw the baby out with the bathwater. Although technology has changed the way we acquired(获得) friends, the meaning of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same. As Aristotle said, no one would choose to live without friends, even if he had all other goods.
122.Why have the ways of making friends and communicating with them changed greatly?
123.How can we stay in touch with our faraway friends?
124.How do you know online friendship can be real and meaningful?
125.Can we acquire real friendship online according to the passage?
126.What do you think of making friends online?
【答案】122.Because of the advances in technology. 123.By using social media tools. 124.If people always exchange true personal information online, online friendships can be real and meaningful. 125.Yes, we can. 126.It has advantages and disadvantage of making friends online./It’s a good way to make friends, but we should be care/ protect ourselves.
【导语】本文是一篇议论文,论述了发达的网络技术使得人们交友和保持友谊更简单了;但网络是把双刃剑,网络上的友情有真也有假,所以人们也要谨慎。
122.根据“Thanks to advances(进步) in technology, how we make friends and communicate with them has changed greatly.”可知是因为科技的进步。故填Because of the advances in technology.
123.根据“ Social media tools(社交媒体工具) let us see what our friends are busy with and maintain friendships.”可知社交媒体工具可以让我们与朋友保持联系。故填By using social media tools.
124.根据“If people always exchange true personal information online, then yes, these friendships can be real and meaningful. ”可知是如果人们交换真实的个人信息,那就是真的友谊。故填If people always exchange true personal information online, online friendships can be real and meaningful.
125.根据“If people always exchange true personal information online, then yes, these friendships can be real and meaningful”以及“Although technology has changed the way we acquired(获得) friends, the meaning of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same. ”可知虽然科技改变了我们获得朋友的方式,但友谊的意义和我们对朋友的渴望仍然不变,我们仍能在网上收获真正的友谊。故填Yes, we can.
126.开放性问题,言之有理即可。参考答案为It has advantages and disadvantage of making friends online./It’s a good way to make friends, but we should be care/ protect ourselves.

Love,

My six-month stay in China was really enjoyable. It has made me look forward to visiting China again to look for more adventures.

A.David invited the writer to dinner on the first day.
B.David showed the writer around on the first day.
C.The writer and Charlie were from the same country.
D.The writer and David studied in the same class.
17.According to Paragraph 2, why did Sophie often laugh wildly?
A.Because some of the students’ sentences were funny.
B.Because some of the students learnt Chinese very well.
C.Because some of the students send Sophie nice gifts.
D.Because some of the students’ language skills were poor.
18.What can we infer from the passage?
A.It was boring for the writer to stay in Beijing.
B.The writer did not like to eat Chinese food at all.
C.The writer was familiar with Chinese table manners.
D.Eating Chinese food often gave the writer surprises.

How would you feel if moving to a new town meant losing track of your friends? What if the only way of getting news from faraway friends was writing letters that took ages to be delivered? This was how things worked not very long ago. Thanks to advances in technology, how we make friends and c 98 with them has changed significantly.
Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in t 99 with the people that we want to remain friends with. Social media t 100 let us see what our friends are up to and maintain friendships. All you need is a wi-fi connection.
The digital age also enables us to find people who share our interests, such as collecting model cars or p 101 an unusual instrument. Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can c 102 us with others who also enjoy doing them, even if they live on the other side of the world.
But when you “friend” people online, does this mean that they really are your friends? It depends. If people always e 103 true personal information online, then yes, these friendships can be real and meaningful. But we need to keep in mind that what we see on social media is often not the whole t 104 about a person.
On social media sites, people tend to post only positive updates that make them appear happy and friendly. But smiling photos can h 105 real problems. Remember the saying: on the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be s 106 our information with criminals.
But this doesn’t mean that we should throw the baby out with the bathwater. A 107 technology has changed the way we acquire friends, the meaning of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same. As Aristotle said, no one would choose to live without friends, even if he had all other goods.

Dear Jesse,
I feel lonely. It’s hard for me to make friends because I am shy. It seems that everyone in my class has a friend except me. How can I make friends?
Jerry, Shaanxi
Dear Jesse,
Now I’m in great trouble. I wonder if I should be able to remember the name of some superstars from Western countries. At lunchtime every day, I eat with my roommates in the dining hall, and we always talk about everything especially movie superstars. But when they talk about famous superstars in Western films, I feel very uncomfortable. I know very little about them and don’t even remember some of the names. So I just keep silent and listen. I’m afraid I can’t keep up good friendship with them because of these? Will you give me some advice?
Eileen, Jiangxi
Dear Jesse,
Recently, one of my roommates discovered that someone read her diary(日记). She thought it was me because I was the last person to leave the room. I really did not read it, but she didn’t believe me. What can I do?
Linda, Guangzhou
Dear Jesse,
My friend isn’t good at English and asked me to give her the answers during our English exam. Of course I didn’t do that. After the exam, she no longer wanted to be my friend because I didn’t help her.
Yao Liuxin, Shanghai
Dear Jesse,
I prefer to be alone and have no friends in class because I think it is difficult to keep a friendship. But I feel lonely when I see my classmates play together and happily chat with each other. What should I do?
Kiki, Beijing

Sarah and Paige are best friends. They have a very typical friendship, but they live in different places. Paige lives in New Zealand, and Sarah lives in the US, 8,000 miles away. They talk on the phone and send emails.
The girls first “met” when they were babies. Sarah was disabled with only one arm, and her mother wanted to meet the parents of similar children. She found Paige’s mother on the Internet and learned that Paige also had only one arm. The girls’ parents shared letters and photos.
They also shared their daughters’ feelings about living with one arm. Sarah and Paige always showed each other how to do things with one arm, such as painting their fingernails(指甲). “Sarah has taught me a lot,” said Paige, “and she gives me a lot of confidence. I can tell Sarah some private things while I won’t share them with other friends. I trust her.”
Finally, after they had been best friends for eight years, Sarah flew to New Zealand to meet Paige for the first time. When she finally saw Paige, she ran to her best friend.
The two girls hugged and cried. “Paige will always be my best friend,” said Sarah.

119.What does Alessandra like doing best in Teen-Age?
120.What will Alessandra do in the future?
121.Do you like chatting online? Why or why not? Write 30 words or more.
