Just before his 18th birthday, he got a letter from his pen pal, a student from Daye Middle School in Hubei, China. This letter was part of Blue Letter Project, which offers psychological (心理的) help to rural (乡村的) children aged 13—14 by writing letters to them. Lin, a student from Wuhan University, joined as a “letter volunteer”, and he wanted to make these children feel happy and active.
