“Hey, lady! You can move your ugly car up now!” The silver-haired driver behind me in a fancy truck rudely yelled at me. Without much thought, I yelled back at the man, “What? Are you in a rush or something? ”
I was waiting in line at the drive-through to order our breakfast on a Sunday morning. There were only 12 inches or so between me and the car in front of me. There were also three additional cars in front of that one. We were getting nowhere fast. What was he hoping to gain by yelling at me?
I wanted to let my own anger go after this ridiculous exchange. But the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I was angry that he yelled at a mother in front of two kids. My daughter and my son were both confused and saddened by what they had just witnessed. We were on our way to a soccer tournament, and we had a bonus day free from school and work. Probably, there was nothing in the world to be upset about. Then this man let his anger out.
I told my kids I was so mad that I had to roll my window up so that I wouldn’t keep yelling at this guy. Then, I stopped and looked back. I had moved up the 12 or so inches at his “suggestion”, while he hadn’t moved an inch. Suddenly, I felt sympathy for him. He must have been suffering in some way. As my kids and I slowly made our way to the pick-up window to pay for our order, I had an idea.
“I heard how rude that man was to you, and I wanted to apologize to you for having to put up with that. He isn’t worth paying for,” the cashier said to me. “My kids support me in doing that,” I answered the cashier, adding that hate cannot drive out hate.
24.Why was the driver angry with the author?
A.Her car cut in. B.She held up his truck.
C.Her car stopped suddenly. D.She screamed at him.
25.What does the author mainly tell us in paragraph 3?
A.Why her anger kept growing. B.What her kids’ reaction was.
C.How she calmed herself down D.Why she ordered the breakfast.
26.What was the author’s final decision?
A.She taught her kids a lesson. B.She apologized to the driver.
C.She paid for the driver’s food. D.She gave the cashier some advice
27.What does the author intend to convey in the text?
A.Respond to hate with kindness B.Deal with a man as he deals with you.
C.Put distance between your car and another. D.Never go to the drive-through at rush hours
C
The 3D Dinosaur
John Simpson
Call me the youngest dinosaur in the world. Not the kind who attacks you in a 3D movie. The other kind: a dinosaur of old-fashioned opinion. How old-fashioned? Let’s just say I consider 3D physically dangerous, economically greedy, artistically self-defeating and imaginatively silly.
That kind of dinosaur.
When you watch a 3D film, your brain receives two slightly different 2D images and is forced to make sense of them by combining them into one. The immediate result of this combination is an enhanced sense of apparent depth (the “third” dimension). The not-so-immediate result is, for at least 15 percent of us, eye strain, headaches and a dangerous dis-orientation These risks are greatest for children and teenagers. It is even possible that children will develop permanent problems with depth perception (感知) if they are over-exposed to 3D.
Why do film-makers bring about these risks on us? So they can charge us extra at the ticket office. Who wins out of this? Not us. So who does? The film-makers themselves?
They might think they do, but they should think again. If 3D becomes the new standard, we will see a shift in the kind of films that are made. Setting and action take over. Character, relationships and plot become weaker. No film that lacks the promise of a 3D thrill will even find the financial backing to be made. So stand back, all you serious film-makers, and make room for kids’ movies and animation.
But the most annoying thing about 3D is that it is not necessary. There is already depth in 2D media. The imagination finds it there. If we depend on special glasses to find it, we have already begun to replace the wonders of imagination with the tricks of technology.
I heard a child leaving a cinema recently announce, “I wish life was 3D!”That should be sad, not just to us dinosaurs, but to everyone.
28.What kind of dinosaur does John Simpson claim to be?
A.The kind that is youthful and creative. B.The kind that is found in many forms.
C.The kind that disapproves of new ideas. D.The kind that appears in many popular films.
29.Why are the incomplete sentences used in the first two paragraphs?
A.They make people feel the language of a debate.
B.They cast doubt on John Simpson’s credibility.
C.They suggest John Simpson is a hesitant character.
D.They show that the subject of the text is not serious.
30.Which aspect of 3D films does the text emphasize most strongly?
A.The cost of production. B.The number of films made.
C.The effect on audiences. D.The special skills of film-makers.
31.What does the author claim to find most disturbing about 3D films?
A.They make people feel unwell. B.Their ticket prices are too high.
C.They lead to a loss of imagination. D.They reduce the range of films available.
D
Thomas Bogle has worked in the footwear industry for years. He also loves to run. He runs every day in the forest near his home in Colorado. But while training for a race, he couldn’t stop thinking about the bits of plastic and rubber that his shoes were shedding on the forest floor.
With every step we take, our shoes leave behind an invisible trail of contaminants (污染物). These contaminants can potentially harm the soil, water and animal health.
Shoes contain different types of plastics. Every year, about 500,000 tons of microplastics seep into the world’s oceans. Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic. They form as larger plastic objects break down. They can harm living things and the environment.
Now, several companies are starting to develop plant-based soles (鞋底). They don’t leave plastics behind when they break down. Plant-based soles address some of these issues. They won’t shed plastic into the environment. Plus, they generate fewer toxic chemicals. But shoes made with natural materials face some of the same challenges as plastic-based shoes once they’re thrown out. Taking the shoes apart is still hard. Recycling shoes will require setting up new systems.
Bogle had an idea to create an entirely plastic-free shoe outsole. He got some help from Gene Kelly. He is a professor of soil science at Colorado State University and a fellow runner. Together, Bogle and Kelly developed a shoe sole. It is made of beeswax, vegetable oils and plant products such as leaves and husks from corn and other crops.
Bogle’s company, Solum, partners with farmers across the country. The farmers grow and harvest the plant materials. Then, the materials are transformed into little plant balls and blended with natural rubber to create the sole. Solum’s shoes don’t shed toxic chemicals. Instead, the soles put nutrients back into the soil as they naturally wear down over time.
These days, Bogle runs, hikes and golfs in shoes with his company’s plant-based soles. “Footwear is a very hard product to fix,” he said. “It really requires completely shifting how we think about footwear and how we make footwear and the materials we use.”
32.What problems of shoes are mentioned in the passage?
A.Shoes are easy to break down but nearly impossible to recycle.
B.People buy new shoes every year but quite a few are thrown away.
C.Plastics of shoes do harm to our environment and living things.
D.Footwear industry is intensely competitive in the production of shoes.
33.How did Bogle address the shoes issues?
A.By developing shoes made of natural materials.
B.By asking other companies for technical support.
C.By allowing local farmers to join in his research.
D.By testing out his company’s shoes in running races.
34.What is the advantage of Solum’s shoes over others?
A.They can endure lots of wear and tear.
B.They don’t shed bits of chemicals at all.
C.They are cheap in materials and production.
D.They bring nutrients to soil instead of plastics.
35.How do we describe Bogle?
A.Modest and capable. B.Passionate and friendly.
C.Creative and responsible. D.Warm-hearted and devoted.

In the journey of life, there’s an often ignored hero — labor. Yes, that’s right, good old-fashioned hard work. Whether it’s mowing lawns, babysitting, or washing dishes, the act of laboring not only fills pockets but also shapes characters and molds futures.
Let’s face it, we live in a world where instant satisfaction is the norm (标准). But what if we told you that delaying that satisfaction and putting in some good, honest sweat can actually be beneficial? It’s true! 36
37 Imagine a teenager tasked with mowing lawns for a summer job. Suddenly, they’re responsible for showing up on time, doing a thorough job, and managing their earnings. These are life skills that no classroom lecture can match.
Moreover, labor breeds (培养) perseverance. 38 Instead of throwing in the towel, they persevere, learning from each setback and growing stronger in the process. This perseverance becomes a cornerstone (基石) for success in all aspects of life.

Suddenly, that new smartphone doesn’t seem as important as lending a helping hand to those in need.
In conclusion, labor isn’t just about earning a paycheck but it’s also about shaping character and building a foundation for success. So, the next time you see a teenager sweating it out on a hot summer day, remember — 40

The first time we set eyes on the beautiful dress “big Red.”father, mother and I were walking slowly through the freshly fallen snow on our way to Hubble's Hardware store on Main Street.
The colorfully decorated window display held the best toys ever and some other things. And hey were all placed pleasantly beneath the breathtaking dress of Big Red. Mother’s eyes were glued to the massive flame of red satin(绸缎),dotted with twinkling stars.
“My goodness,"she managed to say in dreamlike wonder."Would you just look at that dress!"Then, totally out of character, mother unexpectedly danced on the slippery sidewalk. Beneath the heavy, grey wool coat that she had worm every winter for as long as I could remember, mother lost her balance and fell clumsily. Father quickly caught her.
Her cheeks redder than usual, mother blamed dad for laughing."Oh,stop that!" she ordered, as my father swept the snow from her coat."What a silly dress to be displayed there in the window of Eaton's!" she shook her head in disbelief. "Who on earth would want such a brightly-colored dress? It is too expensive."As we continued to walk down the street, mother turned back for one more look."My goodness! You'd think they'd display something that a person could use!”
Christmas was around the corner and the red dress was soon forgotten.Mother was not the one to wish for, or spend money on,things that were not practical."There are things we need more than this,"she'd always say, or,"There are things we need more than that."
Father,on the other hand, liked to buy things whenever the budget allowed. Of course,he'd get a scolding for his occasional spending like this, but it was all done with the best intention.
On our last trip to town before Christmas,we were driving up Main Street when mother suddenly exclaimed in surprise, “Would you just look at that!"She pointed excitedly as Dad drove past Eaton's."That big red dress is gone,” she said in disbelief. “It's actually gone."
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Dad looked quickly and smiled,"Yes,it is not there!”

But perhaps the most profound impact of labor is its ability to foster empathy and appreciation. 39 As teenagers serve meals to the less fortunate, they gain a newfound perspective on privilege and gratitude.
A.Labour is significantly beneficial to health.
B.Take, for instance, volunteering at a local soup kitchen.
C.labor isn’t just about earning money and training skills.

E.Imagine a young adult facing rejection after rejection while job hunting.
F.they’re not just mowing lawns, they’re paving their path to a brighter future.
G.The process of laboring teaches invaluable lessons that textbooks simply can’t convey.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Dad looked quickly and smiled,"Yes,it is not there!”

In the 13th century, Marco Polo travelled the Silk Road and brought silk to Venice. You can be sure that Italians value this precious material greatly. Some of the designs added into their clothing were copies of paintings by Leonardo da Vinci. Today there are no world-class dress designers who have not used Italian cloth materials made of Chinese silk. A famous poet said, “What diamonds do for the hand silk does for the body.” Silk has a comfortable and expensive quality. Silk dresses and suits certainly add beauty and style to one’s clothes collection. You want to be considered as successful as those who know what quality is, don’t you? No one who was anyone should be without this special material. Come and buy a silk dress or a shirt today.

【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.A
You can move your ugly car up now!(‘嘿,女士!你现在可以把你的丑车往前挪挪了!’)”和第二段“There were only 12 inches or so between me and the car in front of me. There were also three additional cars in front of that one. We were getting nowhere fast. What was he hoping to gain by yelling at me? (我的车前面大概只有12英寸左右的空间,那辆车前面还有三辆其他的车。我们几乎一动不动。他冲我大吼大叫,到底希望得到什么好处?)”可知,司机对作者生气是因为她阻碍了他的车子,尽管实际上前面的车都几乎没动,而作者与前车的距离只有12英寸左右,并没有造成阻碍。故选B。
25.主旨大意题。根据文章第三段“I wanted to let my own anger go after this ridiculous exchange. Then this man let his anger out.(在这次荒谬的交流之后,我想放下自己的愤怒。 故选A。
根据文章倒数第二段“As my kids and I slowly made our way to the pick-up window to pay for our order, I had an idea.(当我和孩子们慢慢走向取货窗口为我们的订单付款时,我有了一个主意。)”和文章最后一段“I heard how rude that man was to you, and I wanted to apologize to you for having to put up with that. He isn’t worth paying for,” the cashier said to me.
通过最后一段中““My kids support me in doing that,” I answered the cashier, adding that hate cannot drive out hate.(‘我的孩子们支持我这样做,’我回答收银员,并补充说,仇恨不能驱除仇恨。)” 故选A项。
【答案】28.C 29.A 30.C 31.C
根据第一段中的“Call me the youngest dinosaur in the world. Not the kind who attacks you in a 3D movie. The other kind: a dinosaur of old-fashioned opinion. How old-fashioned? Let’s just say I consider 3D physically dangerous, economically greedy, artistically self-defeating and imaginatively silly. (叫我世界上最年轻的恐龙吧。不是那种在3D电影里攻击你的人。另一种是守旧观念的恐龙。老式的如何?这么说吧,我认为3D在物理上是危险的,在经济上是贪婪的,在艺术上是自我挫败的,在想象力上是愚蠢的。)”可知,他自称为观点守旧的恐龙,即那种对新观念持反对态度的人。故选C。
29.推理判断题。第一、二段文中使用了很多不完整的句子,如第一段中的“Call me the youngest dinosaur in the world. Not the kind who attacks you in a 3D movie. The other kind: a dinosaur of old-fashioned opinion. How old-fashioned?(叫我世界上最年轻的恐龙吧。不是那种在3D电影里攻击你的人。另一种是守旧观念的恐龙。老式的如何?)”和第二段“That kind of dinosaur. (那种恐龙。)”可知,这是一种辩论式的表达方式,这种方式可以制造悬念,增强文章的节奏感,突出作者对于3D电影的反感态度,让读者感受到他的坚定和强烈情感。同时,这种风格也符合作者自称的守旧形象,加深了文章的主题和氛围。这些不完整的句子让人们感受到辩论的语言。故选A。
根据第三段“When you watch a 3D film, your brain receives two slightly different 2D images and is forced to make sense of them by combining them into one. The immediate result of this combination is an enhanced sense of apparent depth (the “third” dimension). The not-so-immediate result is, for at least 15 percent of us, eye strain, headaches and a dangerous dis-orientation (定向障碍). These risks are greatest for children and teenagers. It is even possible that children will develop permanent problems with depth perception (感知) if they are over-exposed to 3D.(当你看一部3D电影时,你的大脑接收到两个略有不同的2D图像,并被迫通过将它们组合成一个来理解它们。这种组合的直接结果是增强了表面深度感(“第三”维度)。对至少15%的人来说,不那么直接的结果是眼睛疲劳、头痛和危险的定向障碍。这些风险对儿童和青少年来说最大。如果孩子们过度接触3D,甚至可能会出现永久性的深度感知问题。)”可知,文章最强调的方面是3D电影对观众的危害和影响,包括增强感知的深度、眼疲劳、头痛和定向障碍等。故选C。
31.推理判断题。根据第六段“But the most annoying thing about 3D is that it is not necessary. There is already depth in 2D media. The imagination finds it there. If we depend on special glasses to find it, we have already begun to replace the wonders of imagination with the tricks of technology.(但是3D最让人讨厌的地方在于它并不是必需的。2D媒体已经有了深度。想象力在那里找到了它。如果我们依靠特殊的眼镜来寻找它,我们已经开始用技术的技巧取代想象的奇迹。)”可知,我们已经开始用科技的噱头取代想象力的奇迹,即3D电影会导致想象力的丧失。故选C。
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.D 35.C
根据第二段“With every step we take, our shoes leave behind an invisible trail of contaminants (污染物). These contaminants can potentially harm the soil, water and animal health.(我们每走一步,鞋子都会留下看不见的污染物痕迹。这些污染物可能会对土壤、水和动物健康造成潜在危害)”及第三段的“They can harm living things and the environment.(它们会伤害生物和环境)”可知,鞋子中的塑料会分解成微塑料,它们会对生物和环境造成伤害。因此,文章中提到鞋子的问题是鞋子的塑料对我们的环境和生物造成了伤害。故选C。
33.细节理解题。根据第五段“Bogle had an idea to create an entirely plastic-free shoe outsole. He got some help from Gene Kelly. He is a professor of soil science at Colorado State University and a fellow runner. Together, Bogle and Kelly developed a shoe sole. 34.细节理解题。根据第六段中的“Solum’s shoes don’t shed toxic chemicals. Instead, the soles put nutrients back into the soil as they naturally wear down over time.(Solum的鞋子不会脱落有毒化学物质。相反,鞋底会随着时间的推移自然磨损,将营养物质重新放入土壤中)”可知,Solum的鞋子相比其他鞋子的优势在于它们将营养物质而不是塑料带回土壤。故选D。
35.推理判断题。根据第一段中“But while training for a race, he couldn’t stop thinking about the bits of plastic and rubber that his shoes were shedding on the forest floor.(但在为比赛进行训练时,他无法停止思考他的鞋子掉在森林地面上的塑料和橡胶碎片。)”以及第二段“With every step we take, our shoes leave behind an invisible trail of contaminants (污染物). These contaminants can potentially harm the soil, water and animal health.(我们每走一步,鞋子都会留下看不见的污染物痕迹。这些污染物可能对土壤、水和动物健康造成潜在危害。)”可知,Bogle关注鞋子上的塑料对土壤、水和动物健康造成潜在危害,由此可知,他是一个有责任感的人;根据第五段“Bogle had an idea to create an entirely plastic-free shoe outsole. He got some help from Gene Kelly. He is a professor of soil science at Colorado State University and a fellow runner. Together, Bogle and Kelly developed a shoe sole. It is made of beeswax, vegetable oils and plant products such as leaves and husks from corn and other crops.(博格尔有一个想法,创造一个完全无塑料的鞋外底。

But perhaps the most profound impact of labor is its ability to foster empathy and appreciation. 39 As teenagers serve meals to the less fortunate, they gain a newfound perspective on privilege and gratitude.

G“The process of laboring teaches invaluable lessons that textbooks simply can’t convey. 39.根据上文“But perhaps the most profound impact of labor is its ability to foster empathy and appreciation. (但也许劳动最深刻的影响是它培养共情心和欣赏的能力。)”和下文“As teenagers serve meals to the less fortunate, they gain a newfound perspective on privilege and gratitude. (当青少年为不幸的人提供食物时,他们对特权和感激有了一种新的看法。)”,可知空格处引出了如何培养共情心和欣赏的能力的例子,可以承接上文,引出下文。选项B“Take, for instance, volunteering at a local soup kitchen. (以在当地的施粥所做志愿者为例。)”符合此语境。故选B。
40.本句是文章尾段的尾句,结合上文“In conclusion, labor isn’t just about earning a paycheck but it’s also about shaping character and building a foundation for success. (总之,劳动不仅仅在于挣钱,还在于塑造性格和为成功奠定基础。)”,可知破折号后对劳动的意义进一步说明,给出了忠告。选项F“So, the next time you see a teenager sweating it out on a hot summer day, remember — they’re not just mowing lawns, they’re paving their path to a brighter future (所以,下次当你看到一个青少年在炎热的夏天大汗淋漓的时候,请记住——他们不只是在修剪草坪,他们还在为通往更光明的未来铺平道路。)”

1.续写词数应为150左右;

I'll never forget that Christmas morning when father handed mother a box.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dad looked quickly and smiled, “Yes, it is not here!” “But who would like to buy that silly dress, which is neither practical nor cheap?” Mom marveled, but meanwhile both father and I could discern an inexplicable but conspicuous disappointment crept over her face. “Some romantic, reserved loving man might buy that for their wife.” Father winked slyly at mom and me from the rear mirror as if he were the secretive devoting husband he depicted.
I will never forget that Christmas morning when father handed mother a box. “Ta da, the most silly gift for my princess!” father exclaimed, eyeing at his wife in a loving and expectant way. Mother, too stunned to speak, received the box with her trembling hands. Her palms sweating, throat tightening, mother’s hand slided through the red satin and lingered at the twinkling stars. “Oh, Tom, you shouldn’t have been that extravagant.” “No, baby, you deserve the highest honor and my passionate love on this Special Christmas.”
