Amelia Earhart was born on July 24, 1897, in Atchison, Kansas. She was the elder of Edwin Stanton and Amy Otis Earhart’s two daughters. Childhood was not happy for the two bright sisters. Their father was an alcoholic (酒鬼) and lost jobs often. The family traveled a great deal.
The girls often recited poetry while doing their chores but also loved sports, including basketball and tennis. Their parents encouraged them to try new things.
During the war Amelia worked as a military nurse in Canada and later she became a social worker and taught English to immigrant children. Besides work, Amelia had one hobby. She enjoyed watching airplane stunt (特技) shows, which were popular in the 1920s. Then one day she took a 10-minute plane ride and knew what her vocation would be.
After 10 hours of instruction and several crashes, Amelia was ready to fly. She made her first solo flight in 1921. The flight went well. Till 1928, flying was only her hobby. This changed when Amelia received a call from Captain Hilton H Railey. He asked her to join pilots Wilmer Stultz and Louis Gordon on a flight from the United States to England.
Though Amelia was just a passenger, she became the first woman to cross the Atlantic. After this, Amelia got great publicity. In May 1932, she crossed the Atlantic alone and set a new transatlantic (横渡大西洋的) crossing record of 13 hours and 30 minutes. She received a medal from American President Herbert Hoover for this. Several years later, she became the first woman to fly from California to Hawaii, which was a difficult route.
Amelia’s last flight began in June 1937. She and navigator Fred Noonan set out to fly around the world. They were in a twin-engine plane. The two of them took off from Miami in America to South America. Then they crossed the South Atlantic Ocean to Dakar in Africa. From there to Thailand to Australia.
However, after they left Lae in New Guinea for Howland Island, the American coast guard lost contact with the plane. Despite an extensive search, the American Navy never found a trace of either the plane or the aviators. Their disappearance is still a mystery.
24. Why did Earhart have an unhappy childhood?
A. Because the family traveled a great deal.
B. Because she had to do some housework.
C. Because she was the elder of the two daughters.
D. Because her father was often drunk and out of work.

A possible treatment for Florida’s disastrous red tides (赤潮) took another step toward widespread use after successful testing in Sarasota Bay.
This study, led by UCF Assistant Professor of Biology Kristy Lewis, is the first successful test of any red tide treatment technology in open water using large water containers (容器). These containers — about six feet in diameter — extend from the waters’ surface to the ocean floor, allowing scientists to test real ocean conditions within a controlled setting. Four containers were treated with a clay (黏土) solution, while the other four served as a control.
The clay along with the Karenia brevis algae (海藻), which is responsible for Florida red tide, is put on the ocean floor. Lewis has spent the last three years carefully testing the impact of introducing this clay into the ocean ecosystem. She not only looks for changes in the water’s quality, but also wants to know how the clay affects the health of sea life. “We want to make sure the treatment is not worse than the disease,” she says.
At first, the test was simply to measure the influence of the clay on the ecosystem, but an unexpected red tide event caused Lewis to make the test practical. The results suggest the clay performed as expected, but there’s still a question of whether the bad effects of algae remain active on the ocean floor. Water collected during the test should provide an answer. Next steps depend on the test results, but there are already plans to survey what happened to the clay-coated algae when it’s used near seagrass beds.
Visiting Sarasota. Florida, in the middle of a red tide event reminded Lewis just how important the research is to keep the state’s coast healthy. Lewis says she’s prepared to go another three years if that’s what it takes to find an acceptable solution to red tides.
28. What was the purpose of the study?
A To plant more seagrass. B. To fight against red tides.
C. To collect clean water. D. To produce containers.
29. What made Lewis redesign the test?
A. Her original work plan. B. An unforgettable tour.
C. Her team’s suggestion. D. An unexpected red tide.
30. What does Lewis hope to do in the near future?
A. Work with the locals. B. Report Florida red tides.
C. Further her research. D. Study seafood industry.
31. In which part of a newspaper may this text appear?
A. Nature. B. Business. C. Education. D. Lifestyle.

Mirroring body language is a way to bond and to build understanding. It is a powerful tool that we use without even knowing it.
The most obvious forms of mirroring are yawning and smiling. When you see someone yawn, you are likely to yawn immediately. Smiling is also pretty contagious-seeing a smiling person makes you want to smile too.
Mirroring body language is a nonverbal way to say “I am like you, I feel the same”. Research shows that people who experience the same feelings are likely to trust, understand and accept each other.
Women have the natural ability to pick up and understand body signals. Therefore, it is not surprising that a woman is more likely to mirror another woman than a man is to mirror another man. That's why women are regarded as better talkers, even if they might not really have more close friends.
It is interesting that when a man tries to mirror a woman's body language while she is talking, he may seem to her as caring, intelligent and attractive.
Mirroring body language is an excellent way to build trust and understanding quickly. If you want to set up a connection with a new person, mirror his or her gestures, sitting position, tone of voice and talking pace. This will make them feel that there is something about you that they like.
While mirroring body language gains you acceptance, you still need to take into consideration your relationship with the person you are mirroring. If you are in a lower social position and are mirroring the body language of your boss, he will view you as arrogant. However, if you want to defeat those who are trying to prove superior to you, mirroring their body language will help defeat them and change their position.
32. What does the underlined word “contagious” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Affecting each other. B. Powerful to show one's feelings.
C. Attractive to the others. D. Being gentle to people around.
33. When copying others' body language, one usually can ______.
A. send wrong messages B. hide true feelings
C. win others' acceptance D. avoid misunderstanding
34. What might happen if you try to mirror your boss's body language?
A. You will appear very attractive. B. It will help to soften his position.
C. You will seem unacceptably proud. D. It will be a good way to build trust.
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. It is important to copy the others' gestures.
B. Why women are regarded as better talkers.
C Men is not good at nonverbal communication.
D. Mirroring body language can be a useful tool.

How to Quiet a Complainer(抱怨者)
Have you ever suffered your mother’s complaints about her aches and pains? Lengthy complaints will ruin the quality of your time together. ____36____ Actually there are some ways to get a complainer to stop without starting an argument.
Change the subject. Some complainers will switch topics if you shift the conversation in a direction that interests them. If your neighbor is complaining about the phone company, tell her about an unexpected call you received from an old friend. If your coworker is complaining about your boss, ask whether he met the new employee. ____37____
Summarize the complaint. If your complainer keeps repeating himself, he may stop if you show that you’re listening. ____38____ Using “I” statements rather than “you” statements show that you’re interested rather than trying to shut the person down. Avoid saying the word complaining. Saying you hear their dissatisfaction gets the points across.
Try to be honest. When you have things to do, tell the complainer that you must cut the conversation short. ____39____ You can simply be honest, even saying you need to move on so the conversation doesn’t bring you down – especially if it’s someone who’s complained to you many times before.
____40____ When it’s someone very close to you–your partner, sibling, or best friend–who stresses you out with a lot of negativity, it’s important to talk about the problem with an open heart. Otherwise, if you bottle up your feelings and continue listening to repeated complaints, you may grow angry or start avoiding the person.

Although Lora Hudgens was already 71 years old, she bravely took a course at a driving school. During her first day, her classmates, aged 16 to 24, wondered what an old lady like her would be doing there. “She won’t even pass the written test,” one of her classmates said very quietly to another. “I couldn’t agree more!” the other man added. They laughed as they said this.
“She’s wasting her time and money on this course.” another boy said. Lora didn’t care and just listened to the instructor (教练) carefully. Lora got great grades in her first exam, and her classmates were surprised that she made it. She was going to join the rest of them in taking their driving tests at the Department of Motor Vehicles (车管局).
While waiting for their turn at the DMV, one of Lora’s classmates approached her. “I know you’ve probably heard all the talk about you, madam.” he told her. “But why do you want a driver’s license (驾照) at your age?” Lora smiled as if she had been waiting for someone to ask her all this time. She said that she was doing it for her sick grandson.
Her grandson Jack had one wish — he wanted to go camping for a week in a nearby state. Lora promised that she would take him there, but she didn’t have a driver’s license. “That’s why I have to get one.” she explained. The man felt terrible at once. He regretted making fun of Lora. “You’re such an admirable woman.” he replied. “Your grandson is lucky to have you as his grandmother.”
Lora continued to explain that when Jack’s parents left him, she promised to give him a good life. She hoped taking him out for a camping trip could make him happy and get well soon. “His birthday is coming up in two weeks, so I need to pass the test today.” she told the man determinedly.
Paragraph 1: Later, the man told the rest of his classmates why Lora took the course.

A. She was the first woman to cross the Atlantic.
B. She was the first pilot to cross the Atlantic alone.

28 What was the purpose of the study?
A. To plant more seagrass. B. To fight against red tides.
C. To collect clean water. D. To produce containers.
29. What made Lewis redesign the test?
A. Her original work plan. B. An unforgettable tour.
C. Her team’s suggestion. D. An unexpected red tide.
30. What does Lewis hope to do in the near future?
A. Work with the locals. B. Report Florida red tides.
C Further her research.

35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. It is important to copy the others' gestures.

C. Men is not good at nonverbal communication.
D. Mirroring body language can be a useful tool.
【答案】32. A 33. C 34. C 35. D

故填to promote。
受人尊敬”可知短语为be admired for。故填for。

故填which。

故填achievement(s)。

The Chinese sketch is a form of language art, which offers amusement to the audience through performers’ witty words and physical performance. Although it's hard to perform a sketch well, you can pay attention to a few points to improve yourself. Firstly, your practice of fluent and standard oral Chinese can do the trick, which is an essential part of practice. Secondly, you need to arrange the setting properly, which can also impress the audience deeply. Last but not least, you can learn from some famous actors on the Internet and practice regularly. 第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:Finally Lora completed her test without error.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1: (79 words)
Later, the man told the rest of his classmates why Lora took the course. Everybody felt sorry for making fun of her and decided to help her pass the test. They crowded around her and gave her some tips on how she could easily pass. When it was Lora’s turn to take the driving test, they wished her good luck and cheered her on. “We’ll be here waiting for your good news, Lora!” They told her hopefully. With so many of her classmates supporting her, Lora took the test with much more confidence.
Paragraph 2: (74 words)
Finally, Lora completed her test without error. She took a deep breath and walked back to the waiting room. Her classmates held her excitedly and felt happy for her. Then the instructor informed her that she would get her driver’s license. Upon hearing this, Lora couldn’t help but cry. On her grandson’s birthday, Lora surprised him by driving him to a beautiful nature park in another state. They had so much fun there. Her grandson gradually recovered after the wonderful trip.
