Her family were often on the move, and she admits that moving so often made her feel lost. “I was just kind of all over the place. My teachers in high school really helped me discover who I was and feel comfortable with myself,” Marconi says. Among her coworkers, Marconi is admired for her rapport (融洽) with students. She’s a go-getter who believes “you get out what you put in.” So she is the obvious choice to teach a new course for juniors and seniors, school leaders say. Marconi is instrumental in building a program in Wheat on Warrenville Unit District 200. Through her “Intro to Teaching” classes, Marconi is drawing high school students to the profession (职业) at a time when a national teacher shortage makes headlines. One of the goals of the program is to give teens real-world experiences and opportunities to explore careers while they’re in high school. The curriculum is set through the College of DuPage, but Marconi creates a student-centered classroom. At the end of the term, students design their own classroom on an individual level and in small groups as a team-based challenge. Marconi doesn’t avoid talking about the realities — all the positives and some of the struggles of being a teacher. “Yes, I would love all of them to come back and teach,” Marconi says. “But I just hope honestly that it helps them figure out if they want to be a teacher, and if not, that’s OK. The one thing I always tell my students: You need to find a job, something that you love and that you are excited to do when waking up every day.” 4. Why did Marconi feel lost in her high school? A. Her teachers were strict. B. She scored low marks. C. Her family moved a lot. D. She went to school alone. 5. What does the program that Marconi works for aim to do? A. Inspire students to go for teaching jobs. B. Build more student-center classrooms. C. Encourage students to attend top colleges. D. Help students get along well with each other. 6. What do the students need to do at the end of the term? A. Look for a well-paid job as expected. B. Prepare themselves for the interviews. C. Discuss their curriculum with teachers. D. Design a classroom in their own way. 7. Which of the following best describes Marconi as a teacher? A. Quiet. B. Caring. C. Impatient. D. Humorous. C 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段“Her family were often on the move, and she admits that moving so often made her feel lost.(她的家人经常搬家,她承认经常搬家让她感到迷茫)”可知,马可尼在高中时感到迷茫是因为她的家庭经常搬家。 根据第三段“Through her “Intro to Teaching” classes, Marconi is drawing high school students to the profession (职业) at a time when a national teacher shortage makes headlines.(在全国教师短缺成为头条新闻的时候,马可尼正在通过她的“教学入门”课程吸引高中生从事这一职业)”可知,马可尼工作的项目的目的是鼓励学生从事教学工作。故选A。 根据倒数第二段“At the end of the term, students design their own classroom on an individual level and in small groups as a team-based challenge.(在学期结束时,学生在个人层面上设计自己的教室,并以小组为基础进行团队挑战)”可知,学生在学期末需要自己的方式设计教室。 根据最后一段“But I just hope honestly that it helps them figure out if they want to be a teacher, and if not, that’s OK. The one thing I always tell my students: You need to find a job, something that you love and that you are excited to do when waking up every day.(但老实说,我只是希望这能帮助他们弄清楚自己是否想成为一名教师,如果不想,也没关系。我总是告诉我的学生一件事:你需要找一份工作,一份你喜欢的工作,一份你每天醒来都会兴奋的工作)”可知,马可尼作为教师关爱学生。故选B。 C The story of our home galaxy (星系) may tend to be changed. That’s because a bar-shaped collection of stars at the center of the Milky Way appears to be much younger than expected. The bar is a prominent feature of our galaxy. It covers thousands of light years and connects the galaxy’s arms of stars, making them look like spinning (旋转) water. In computer models of the Milky Way’s development, the bar tends to form early in the galaxy’s around 13-billion-year lifetime. But the ages and locations of metal-rich stars suggest the bar finished forming just a few billion years ago, researchers report. “These metal-rich stars are basically like records of ancient stars that are telling the story of our home galaxy,” says Samir Nepal, working at the Leibruz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam in Germany. Stars with large numbers of metals are built from the remains of stars that have since exploded. Those metals enrich the materials at the center of galaxies like the Milky Way, which is why a new generation of metal-rich stars can form only deep inside galaxies. Using data from the European Space Agency, Nepal and his coworkers recreated the development of the Milky Way bar through its influence on the metal-rich stars. They inferred the bar’s history, just as you might figure out where the batters stand in a baseball game by looking at the flight of the balls they hit, even if you can’t see home plate. In the study, the researchers found out a burst (迸发) of star formation in the central part of the galaxy that became quiet about 3 billion years ago. The down turn seems to mark the end of the Milky Way bar’s development, the researchers report. After that burst, the inflow of new material into the bar probably dropped off significantly. That may account for why the bar developed so late. 8. What does the underlined word “prominent” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Simple. B. Long-lost. C. Man-made. D. Noticeable. 9. What can we know about metal-rich stars from Nepal’s words? A. They remind us to make up old stories. B. They show the history of the Milky Way. C. They record the development of the earth. D. They can help keep our home galaxy safe. 10. Why does the author mention a baseball game? A. To compare the effects of the metal-rich stars. B. To introduce a new sports event among students. C. To explain how scientists track the age of the bar. D. To give an example of the importance of teamwork. 11. Which is the most suitable for the text? A. A Bar of Stars Looks Surprisingly Young B. Now Advances in Space Exploration C. Various Metal Stars Are Found in Space D. The Development of the Milky Way 【答案】8. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“That’s because a bar-shaped collection of stars at the center of the Milky Way appears to be much younger than expected.(这是因为银河系中心的一个棒状恒星群似乎比预期的要年轻得多。)”以及划线词的下文“It covers thousands of light years and connects the galaxy’s arms of stars, making them look like spinning (旋转) water. (它覆盖了数千光年,连接着星系的恒星臂,使它们看起来像旋转的水)”可知,这个棒子非常巨大,塑造了银河系的形态,是银河系的一个显著特征;“The bar is a prominent feature of our galaxy.(这个棒是我们银河系的一个prominent特征。)”划线词prominent意思是“显著的”,与Noticeable意思一致。故选D项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“These metal-rich stars are basically like records of ancient stars that are telling the story of our home galaxy (这些富含金属的恒星基本上就像古代恒星的记录,讲述着我们银河系的故事)”可知,富含金属的恒星是一种古老的记录,展现了银河系的历史。 根据第五段中“They inferred the bar’s history, just as you might figure out where the batters stand in a baseball game by looking at the flight of the balls they hit, even if you can’t see home plate. (他们推断出棒子的历史,就像你在棒球比赛中,即使你看不到本垒板,也可以通过观察击球的飞行来判断击球手所处的位置)”可推知,此处作者通过在棒球比赛中我们如何判断击球手的位置,来解释科学家是如何追踪棒状恒星群年龄的。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“The story of our home galaxy (星系) may tend to be changed. That’s because a bar-shaped collection of stars at the center of the Milky Way appears to be much younger than expected. (我们银河系的故事可能会被改变。这是因为银河系中心的一个棒状恒星群似乎比预期的要年轻得多)”可知,文章主要介绍了一项研究发现,银河系中心的棒状恒星群可能比预期年轻,并解释了这一恒星群的重要意义、该研究的研究方法和具体结果。因此,A项“棒状恒星看起来出奇的年轻”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选A项。 D A new training plan could remind artificial intelligence (AI) programs that they aren’t know-it-alls. AI programs that run robots, self-driving cars and other autonomous machines often train in simulated (模拟) environments before making real-world running. But situations that an AI doesn’t meet with in virtual reality can become blind spots in its real-life decision making. For example, a delivery bot trained in a virtual city with no emergency vehicles may not know that it should stop before entering a crosswalk if it hears sirens (警报). To create machines that move carefully rather than take a risk, computer scientist Ramya Ramakrishnan of MIT and her team developed a post-simulation training program in which a human character helps the AI identify gaps in its education. “This allows the AI to safely act in the real world,” says Ramakrishnan. Engineers could also use information on AI blind spots to design better simulations in the future. During its testing period, the AI takes note of environmental factors influencing the human’s actions that it does not recognize from its simulation. When the human does something the AI doesn’t expect — like hesitating to enter a crosswalk despite having the right-of-way — the AI checks its surroundings (环境) for previously unknown factors, such as sirens. If the AI recognizes any of these features, it thinks the human is following some safety rule it didn’t learn in the virtual world and that it should follow the human’s action in these types of situations. Ramakrishnan’s team have tested this setup by first training AI programs in simplistic simulations and then letting them learn their blind spots from human characters in more realistic but still virtual world. The researchers now need to test the system in the real world. 12. What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about AI programs? A. Their applications. B. Their problems. C. Their advantages. D. Their changes. 13. Why does the human character join in the test? A. To ensure the safety of the team. B. To study why AI learns quickly. C. To help AI recognize its weakness. D. To see how AI affects his action. 14. What will Ramakrishnan’s team do in the next stage? A Carry out the test in real conditions. B. Design better simulation at home. C. Copy the style of the human walk. D. Follow safety rules on the road. 15. What can we infer about the post-simulation training program? A. It cuts the cost of the training. B. It will badly influence the city. C. It has attracted many volunteers. D. It may benefit self-driving cars. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第二段“AI programs that run robots, self-driving cars and other autonomous machines often train in simulated (模拟) environments before making real-world running. But situations that an AI doesn’t meet with in virtual reality can become blind spots in its real-life decision making. For example, a delivery bot trained in a virtual city with no emergency vehicles may not know that it should stop before entering a crosswalk if it hears sirens (警报). 根据第三段中“To create machines that move carefully rather than take a risk, computer scientist Ramya Ramakrishnan of MIT and her team developed a post-simulation training program in which a human character helps the AI identify gaps in its education. (为了创造出行动谨慎而不是冒险的机器,麻省理工学院的计算机科学家Ramya Ramakrishnan和她的团队开发了一个模拟后训练项目,在这个项目中,人类角色帮助人工智能识别其教育中的差距)”可知,人类角色加入测试是为了帮助人工智能认识到它的弱点。故选C项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The researchers now need to test the system in the real world. (研究人员现在需要在现实世界中测试该系统)”可知,下一阶段Ramakrishnan的团队将在真实条件下进行测试。故选A项。 根据第四段中“When the human does something the AI doesn’t expect — like hesitating to enter a crosswalk despite having the right-of-way — the AI checks its surroundings (环境) for previously unknown factors, such as sirens. If the AI recognizes any of these features, it thinks the human is following some safety rule it didn’t learn in the virtual world and that it should follow the human’s action in these types of situations. Practicing little bits of self-care every day can have a big impact on mental health. ___16___. ●Get a little exercise Go for a walk, play with your dog, or dance alone in your room.___17___ Research shows that daily exercise can improve mood (心情), and help deal with anxiety and anget. His troubles began when he had his first heart attack and was hospitalized for nearly a month. My emotions were running wild at that time, but I managed to deal with all the stress and pressure. After my dad returned home from the hospital, his health didn’t really improve; instead, he seemed to get sicker. He could no longer do the things he was used to doing. Doctors ran additional tests on him, which made him extremely weak and tired. It was around this time that I was feeling a bit rebellious (叛逆的). I moved out of the house thinking that would reduce the stress on my mom and dad. The effect was quite the opposite. I realized they needed me more than any other time in their lives, so I returned home after a short period away. It was hard, but I knew what had to be done. I was just having such a difficult time seeing my father go through so much pain that it broke my heart. As time went on, he continued to develop more complications (并发症) and even fell, hitting his head. He was okay, but my mother and I worried even more, which made my father become more troubled than he already was. He wasn’t angry at us for being so worried; instead, he was annoyed that he was creating so much pressure in our lives and he was so sorry for that. Just recently he had another heart attack. He left the hospital shortly after that. It felt like the doctors stopped trying to save him, saying there wasn’t anything more they could do. He was in and out of the hospital a few more times for tests. I could no longer hold it in anymore. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The power of positive thought gave me a great relief. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 I could no longer hold it in anymore. My emotions reached a boiling point as I watched my father’s health deteriorate rapidly. Each trip to the hospital felt like a step closer to losing him forever. I knew I had to do something, to find a way to help him, even if it meant facing my own fears and doubts head-on. So, I summoned all my courage and sat down with my parents to have a heart-to-heart conversation. I told them how much I loved them, how scared I was, and how determined I was to find a solution, no matter how small, to ease my father’s suffering. The power of positive thought gave me a great relief. As we discussed options and strategies, my mother suggested we try incorporating positive thinking into our daily routine. We focused on the good moments, the small victories, and the love that bound us together. My father, too, seemed to respond positively to this change in attitude. The doctors noticed a difference as well, remarking on his improved mood and willingness to cooperate with treatment. The power of positive thought became our secret weapon, helping us navigate through the toughest times with hope and resilience. 词汇激活 行为类 ①减轻:ease/mitigate ②集中:focus on/concentrate on ③评价:remark/comment 情绪类 ①怀疑:doubt/suspicion ②害怕的:scared/frightened 【点睛】[高分句型1] I knew I had to do something, to find a way to help him, even if it meant facing my own fears and doubts head-on. B When her students ask what she was like at their age, Tiffany Marconi opens up about her high school experience. A. Quiet. B. Caring. C. Impatient. D. Humorous. C The story of our home galaxy (星系) may tend to be changed That’s because a bar-shaped collection of stars at the center of the Milky Way appears to be much younger than expected. The Development of the Milky Way D A new training plan could remind artificial intelligence (AI) programs that they aren’t know-it-alls. AI programs that run robots self-driving cars and other autonomous machines often train in simulated (模拟) environments before making real-world running. A. Carry out the test in real conditions. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
