Attracted, he began following this incredibly shy creature, trying to prove he wasn’t an enemy by staying very still in her presence. For weeks she escaped him: hiding in her cave, masking herself, or pushing her liquid body into the nearest crack. And then, after 26 days, she reached out and touched him. Foster was able to have intimate (亲密的) moments of this octopus’ short life by spending up to two hours following her every day for a year. Foster said if you gained the trust of an animal over a period of months, it would actually ignore you to a certain degree, carry on with its normal life and allow you to step inside its secret world. The most powerful moment for Foster was when she allowed him to follow her on a hunt. It was not like arriving upon a hunting scene in a Jeep on land. In the water it was intimate. When she chose to let him go into her world, it was a very, very special moment of not just being accepted, but that his presence to her also felt natural, like he belonged in that space with her. Foster has spent the last ten years diving to relieve his depression. Putting himself in this underwater world has calmed his mind. Over the years, other animals also have reached out to make contact, including otters, whales, cuttlefish and even sharks. But nothing has compared to his “once-in-a-lifetime” bond with the octopus. Foster says the greatest lesson she taught him is that humans are part of the natural world around us, and not simply visitors. Our role in the natural world is the most precious gift we have been given. 4. How did Craig Foster deal with the octopus? A. By protecting her from enemies. B. By controlling her moving range. C. By keeping observing her quietly. D. By feeding her with her favorite food. 5. Which word can best describe Craig Foster? A. Ambitious. B. Cooperative. C. Patient. D. Energetic. 6. What can be learned about the octopus according to the text? A. She was the only animal that contacted Foster. B. She got used to the presence of Foster gradually. C. She regarded Foster as the most experienced hunter. D. She paid no attention to Foster throughout the contact. 7. What is the purpose of Craig Foster’s years of diving? A. To deal with his mental problem. B. To reach out to make contact with ocean animals. C. To explore the secret of the creatures under the water. D. To look for his once-in-a-lifetime bond with the octopus. C 5. C 6. B 7. 根据文章第一段“Attracted, he began following this incredibly shy creature, trying to prove he wasn’t an enemy by staying very still in her presence. And then, after 26 days, she reached out and touched him. (章鱼躲了他好几周:躲在洞穴里,遮住自己,或者钻进最近的裂缝里。然后,26天后,她出来接触了他。)”可知,Foster跟了章鱼26天,才有了和章鱼的第一次接触,故可推知Foster是一个很有耐心的人,故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Foster was able to have intimate (亲密的) moments of this octopus’ short life by spending up to two hours following her every day for a year. Foster said if you gained the trust of an animal over a period of months, it would actually ignore you to a certain degree, carry on with its normal life and allow you to step inside its secret world. 根据文章第四段“Foster has spent the last ten years diving to relieve his depression. Putting himself in this underwater world has calmed his mind. Black Samphire, a film packed with the realities of environmental degradation, takes a deep dive into the terrifying water pollution. Its premiere (首映) location, miles away from the natural settings, emphasizes the universal impact of this issue. Set against the background of West Sussex’s scenic yet troubled waters, the film introduces audiences to a modern-day monster (怪物) far more threatening than fiction: the serious reality of Britain’s water pollution. Co-founders Cathy Wippell and Joseph Archer designs a story that transforms abstract environmental threats into a visible horror of pollution. A keen open-water swimmer, Wippell — who is both the co-star and author of the film — was inspired to write the film after stretches of water she was once able to swim in in her home county were closed off due to rising water pollution level. She highlights the dangers beneath the surface of Britain’s rivers. The urgency of the message could not be clearer. Beyond its storyline, Black Samphire includes sustainability in its production. From beach clean-ups to a powerful green policy, every aspect of the film was tailored to minimize environmental impact. The commitment extended to dietary choices, with over 160 home-baked flapjacks replacing the usual plastic-wrapped snacks, and a practice of reusing and recycling props (道具) and set pieces. Despite its brief runtime, the film deeply addresses the pressing issue of pollution in British waters, a crisis underscored by Environment Agency data. In partnership with River Action UK, Black Samphire seeks to take action among policymakers, industries, and the public. Black Samphire is more than just a film; it’s a fighting cry for environmental settlement and a reminder of the horrors we face if we continue to ignore the trouble of our planet’s lifeblood. It challenges us to look beyond the surface and face the monster we’ve created. 8. What is Black Samphire mainly about? A. A warning of water pollution. B. The beauty of West Sussex. C. Environmental protection measures. D. Environmental threats to the city life. 9. What inspired Wippell to write the story? A. Her personal experience. B. Her partner’s encouragement. C. The economy in her hometown. D. The joy of swimming in rivers. 10. What is the priority in the film production? A. Dietary choice. B. Film props. C. Committed actors. D. Environmental protection. 11. Where does the text probably come from? A. A hit novel. B. A film review. C. An environmental report. D. A movie advertisement. 【答案】8. A 9. A 10. D 11. From beach clean-ups to a powerful green policy, every aspect of the film was tailored to minimize environmental impact. The commitment extended to dietary choices, with over 160 home-baked flapjacks replacing the usual plastic-wrapped snacks, and a practice of reusing and recycling props (道具) and set pieces.(除了故事情节,Black Samphire还将可持续发展纳入其生产中。从海滩清理到强有力的绿色政策,影片的每个方面都是为了尽量减少对环境的影响。这一承诺延伸到了饮食选择上,用160多种自制的烙饼取代了通常的塑料包装零食,并重复使用和回收道具和道具)”可知,电影制作中优先考虑的是环境保护。故选D。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Black Samphire is more than just a film; it’s a fighting cry for environmental settlement and a reminder of the horrors we face if we continue to ignore the trouble of our planet’s lifeblood. It challenges us to look beyond the surface and face the monster we’ve created.(《黑色桑菲尔》不仅仅是一部电影;这是为解决环境问题而战的呼声,也是对我们的提醒,如果我们继续忽视地球命脉的麻烦,我们将面临的恐怖。它挑战我们透过表象去面对我们创造的怪物)”结合文章主要介绍了电影《黑色桑菲尔》的特点以及电影对于环境保护的贡献。由此可知,文章选自一篇影评。故选B。 D In recent years, the term “awesome” has become overused and common in popular culture—frequently as an adjective to describe a really enjoyable experience. As a result, its meaning and scope have been downsized. Awe can mean many things, but we know it when we truly feel it. It is a sense of being in the presence of something so vast that it goes beyond our understanding of the world. Being in the middle of a forest of ancient giant redwoods, appreciating the images of deep space transmitted from the telescope, and enjoying a passionate live performance by your favorite musician/band are all experiences that can cause the emotion of awe. Like contentment, love, and joy, awe is essential to our mental well-being. It has the potential to activate the calming effects of the parasympathetic (副交感神经的) division of the autonomic nervous system and stimulate the release of oxytocin, the chemical that promotes trust and bonding. Consequently, intentionally cultivating awe-inspiring experiences is a way for people to better deal with stress. Moreover, the psychological benefits of awe extend specifically to the quality of our internal self-talk. Many of us have a critical inner voice consistently telling us that we’re not good enough, often in a variety of ways—not smart enough, not pretty enough, not successful enough, etc. New research suggests that awe seems to quiet such cynical self-talk and help right-size the individual self and its concerns, and increase ethical decision-making. While awe is usually associated with dramatic, life-changing events, the truth is that we can find it in everyday life. The emotion of awe can come from any experience that transforms our understanding or challenges us to reconsider previously held ideas. As a result, awe can be activated by moments as diverse as seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time or witnessing an unexpected act of kindness. 12. Why is a live performance mentioned? A. To show the benefits awe brings. B. To help explain the definition of awe. C. To stress the importance of enjoying oneself. D. To compare it with other types of entertainment. 13. How does the experience of awe work on mental health? A. It enhances feelings of doubt. B. It decreases decision-making abilities. C. It strengthens the parasympathetic nervous system. D. It plays an active part in properly handling stress. 14. What does the underlined word “cynical” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Significant. B. Complex. C. Negative. D. Straightforward. 15. What can be concluded from the last paragraph? A. Awe is difficult to understand. B. Awe may change our thinking mode. C. Awe can be experienced in daily life. D. Awe is helpful in addressing dramatic events. B 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第二段“Awe can mean many things, but we know it when we truly feel it. It is a sense of being in the presence of something so vast that it goes beyond our understanding of the world. Being in the middle of a forest of ancient giant redwoods, appreciating the images of deep space transmitted from the telescope, and enjoying a passionate live performance by your favorite musician/band are all experiences that can cause the emotion of awe.(敬畏意味着很多东西,但当我们真正感受到它时,我们就会知道它。它是一种存在感,它是如此巨大,超出了我们对世界的理解。置身于古老的巨型红杉森林之中,欣赏望远镜传送的深空图像,欣赏你最喜欢的音乐家/乐队的激情现场表演,这些都是能让人产生敬畏之情的经历)”可知,提到现场演出是为了帮助解释敬畏的定义。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Consequently, intentionally cultivating awe-inspiring experiences is a way for people to better deal with stress.(因此,有意识地培养令人敬畏的经历是人们更好地应对压力的一种方式)”可知,敬畏的体验在正确处理压力方面起着积极作用,从而影响心理健康。 根据划线词上文“Many of us have a critical inner voice consistently telling us that we’re not good enough, often in a variety of ways—not smart enough, not pretty enough, not successful enough, etc.(我们中的许多人内心都有一个批评的声音不断地告诉我们,我们不够好,经常以各种方式——不够聪明,不够漂亮,不够成功,等等)”以及“New research suggests that awe seems to quiet such”可知,上文提到了各种对自我的消极评价,而新的研究表明,敬畏似乎可以平息这种消极的自言自语。 根据最后一段“While awe is usually associated with dramatic, life-changing events, the truth is that we can find it in everyday life. The emotion of awe can come from any experience that transforms our understanding or challenges us to reconsider previously held ideas. As a result, awe can be activated by moments as diverse as seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time or witnessing an unexpected act of kindness.(虽然敬畏通常与戏剧性的、改变生活的事件联系在一起,但事实是,我们可以在日常生活中找到它。敬畏的情绪可以来自任何改变我们的理解或挑战我们重新考虑以前持有的想法的经历。因此,敬畏可以被各种各样的时刻激发,比如第一次看到大峡谷,或者目睹意想不到的善举)”可知,敬畏可以在日常生活中体验到。故选C。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 We all desire to belong, whether at our place of work or in our community. ____16____ Here are some tips on how to overcome a lack of belongingness to help you make a fresh start and become a better you. *____17____ You might feel hurt when your close friend doesn’t invite you to her party, or when your colleagues never ask you to join in on coffee talks. Avoid trying to shut them out because this is more likely to cause many mental health issues. * Consider that you’re not as alone as you feel. ____18____ However, for whatever reason, you have no way of gaining what everyone else has. The truth is that everyone is struggling with psychological issues; they just don’t let it show. Remember it’s easier to post about a trip one took on Facebook than to talk about how hard it has been to make ends meet. So, don’t feel the pressure to compare yourself to others. * Get to establish new relationships. If you feel like your existing relationships don’t offer the emotional support, it may be time to join a new friendship group. People change over time, and new interests and friendships often accompany such changes. ____19____ And the sooner you accept the fact, the happier you’ll be. * Focus on something that isn’t YOU. When you’re wrapped in your shortcomings, it might help to emphasize things that exist outside of yourself. Volunteer at a nursing home, pet the dogs at an animal shelter or offer free guitar lessons at your music school. Actively engaged in these activities, you can offer others help. ____20____ A. Acknowledge what you are feeling. B. Evaluate how you see yourself. C. That is something you just have to accept. D. Surely, you can also gain a sense of belonging. E. It’s easy to think that others’ social life is perfect. F. Body expression plays a huge role in how others relate to us. G. Unfortunately, we all go through periods of loneliness or feel like we don’t fit in. G 17. A 18. E 19. C 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“We all desire to belong, whether at our place of work or in our community.(我们都渴望归属感,无论是在我们的工作场所还是在我们的社区)”以及后文“Here are some tips on how to overcome a lack of belongingness to help you make a fresh start and become a better you.(这里有一些关于如何克服缺乏归属感的建议,可以帮助你重新开始,成为更好的自己)”可知,本句与上文构成转折,指出存在不适应,好引出后文的方法。 【17题详解】 根据本段内容“You might feel hurt when your close friend doesn’t invite you to her party, or when your colleagues never ask you to join in on coffee talks. No matter what the case, you’ll finally feel numbers of emotions. Taking time to acknowledge these feelings can help reduce social anxiety. Avoid trying to shut them out because this is more likely to cause many mental health issues.(当你的好朋友没有邀请你参加她的聚会,或者你的同事从来没有邀请你一起喝咖啡时,你可能会感到受伤。不管是什么情况,你最终都会感受到各种情绪。花时间承认这些感觉可以帮助减少社交焦虑。不要试图把他们拒之门外,因为这更有可能导致许多心理健康问题)”可知,本段的主旨是承认自己的感受,故A选项“承认你的感受”符合语境,故选A。 【18题详解】 根据后文“However, for whatever reason, you have no way of gaining what everyone else has. The truth is that everyone is struggling with psychological issues; they just don’t let it show. Remember it’s easier to post about a trip one took on Facebook than to talk about how hard it has been to make ends meet. So, don’t feel the pressure to compare yourself to others.(然而,无论出于何种原因,你都无法获得其他人所拥有的东西。事实上,每个人都在与心理问题作斗争;他们只是不让它表现出来。记住,在Facebook上发布自己的旅行经历要比谈论入不敷出有多难容易得多。所以,不要因为和别人比较而感到压力)”可知,后文提到无法获得其他人所拥有的东西,与本句构成转折,说明对他人生活的感受。故E选项“我们很容易认为别人的社交生活是完美的”符合语境,故选E。 【19题详解】 根据上文“If you feel like your existing relationships don’t offer the emotional support, it may be time to join a new friendship group. People change over time, and new interests and friendships often accompany such changes.( 如果你觉得你现有的关系不能提供情感支持,也许是时候加入一个新的朋友群了。人们会随着时间的推移而改变,新的兴趣和友谊往往伴随着这些变化)”以及后文“And the sooner you accept the fact, the happier you’ll be. (你越早接受这个事实,你就会越快乐)”可知,后文提到了接受事实,故C选项“这是你必须接受的”符合语境,故选C。 【20题详解】 根据上文“When you’re wrapped in your shortcomings, it might help to emphasize things that exist outside of yourself. Volunteer at a nursing home, pet the dogs at an animal shelter or offer free guitar lessons at your music school. Actively engaged in these activities, you can offer others help.(当你沉浸在自己的缺点中时,强调存在于自己之外的东西可能会有所帮助。 It is a beautiful thing when a stepparent has a good relationship with their stepchild. Out came the Smith family, including a 10-year-old girl, the Smiths’ youngest daughter, Amy, with her precious piggy-bank safe tightly held in her arms. They just moved to the new city as Mr Smith landed a better job here. The next morning, while Amy was wondering where she could keep her piggy-bank safe, her mom patted her back lovingly and said, “Dear, I know you have worked hard to earn these 80 pounds. You watered plants over the weekend, you took care of our neighbor’s little boy Oliver, baby-sitting him and you washed Uncle Henry’s cars. I am sure you will be able to buy your favourite doll very soon.” The following Monday, Amy went to her new school. As soon as she reached the school gate, she noticed a group of girls standing there. Amy hesitantly walked up to them and asked about the way to her classroom. However, the arrogant (傲慢的) girls gave her a cold look and turned around to face Amy with their back. Amy had never imagined that and she had tears running down her cheeks. Just then, a sweet girl appeared. She smartly sent those girls away. Amy was so grateful to her. “Hello, I am Emily,” the girl introduced herself, reaching out her hands to give Amy a warm handshake. Amy thanked Emily for her help. Emily quickly responded, “Well, that’s what friends are for!” Amy gradually started liking her new school. She liked Emily. Amy was happy every day. After school every day, she told her parents what happened at school. Amy often invited Emily to do their homework at home, and after that, both of them did crafts and played games together. Amy's mother cooked a lot of delicious food for them every time, so they became closer and closer. They also introduced their parents to each other, and the two families often got together, chatting and playing. However, not everything was smooth sailing—Emily’s mother fell seriously ill one day. After hearing the news, Emily was very unhappy. Amy found that her good friend was sad, so she asked Emily what happened to her. Emily told Amy the news that her mother was seriously ill, and then Amy also fell into deep grief. When she got home, she told her parents about it. B Craig Foster was diving off the southern-most tip of Africa when he saw her — an octopus (章鱼) hiding under shells and stones. Foster says the greatest lesson she taught him is that humans are part of the natural world around us and not simply visitors. C In the heart of Brixton, at the Ritzy cinema, a new kind of horror film was shown just before World Water Day. D In recent years, the term “awesome” has become overused and common in popular culture—frequently as an adjective to describe a really enjoyable experience. A.
