Last Saturday, as my then-9-year-old son, Leopold, and I were preparing for a mom-son ski trip. I came up with a rule: We would say yes to everything. Leopold is hesitant to try new things, and he has phobias (恐惧), including heights, spiders and the dark.
I was hoping to find a way to encourage him without resorting to worm-out sayings like “If you don’t try it, you’ll never know if you like it.” So I borrowed the idea of a Yes Day, something our family has done a handful of times since watching the movie of the same name. Before the trip, Leopold and I agreed we would say yes to everything, including food and experiences — especially new ones.
After we got settled at our hotel, I took Leopold to meet his snowboarding instructor. While he was in snowboarding school, I skied by myself. On the first day, I played it safe and stuck to the long and winding easy green run. On the second day, I thought of Leopold, who, the day before, had kept to our bargain and faced his fear of heights to learn how to ride a chairlift. I challenged myself to ski, an intermediate blue run, diligent S-tums, and I made it. I was proud of myself for trying something new.
Later that afternoon, when Leopold and I were reunited back at the lodge, he asked if we could go in the outdoor hot tub (热水澡). When I started to refuse, Leopold kept to our agreement. But it was also exciting to feel the cold air on my skin, and the warm water of the hot tub felt that much better once we got in. Getting out was a different story, but the experience was a delight as Leopold and I braved it together.
We had so much fun saying yes to everything that Leopold and I decided we should get the rest of the family — his dad and sister — on board during our spring break trip.
4. What did the author expect to do through the mom-son ski trip?
A. To learn ski skills. B. To inspire her son.
C. To give themselves a break. D. To establish a close bond.
5. What does “Yes Day” idea mean to the author and her son?
A. Following tough family rules. B. Learning much from old sayings.
C Doing something challenging to them. D. Reviewing a movie of the same name.
6. Which of the following best describes the author?
A. Sensitive and timid. B. Kind and humorous.
C. Caring and outgoing. D. Brave and adventurous.
7. What do we know from the text?
A. The author behaves better than her son. B. The family welcome the game of a Yes Day.
C. The rest of the family will take a boat trip. D. Leopold becomes willing to try new things.

At Nature Fresh Farms in Leamington, Canada, there’s something new among the rows of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and strawberries. Using thousands of sensors in every greenhouse, artificial-intelligence technology is helping the farm better aspects such as lighting, irrigation and harvest timing, aiming to increase the yields of its crops and reduce its use of power and water. Farmers use drones (无人机) to survey farms and look for information on weeds, pests and disease.
A lot of research into AI and agriculture is done at institutions, but it then needs to be tested in a network of smart farms. One of the farms is Emili’s Innovation Farms. “We really show how they work in a commercial setting and in a way are being a bit of a risk mitigator (缓和) as we try out these technologies and then share with others, including other farmers, and how they actually work as a means to accelerate the adoption and full integration of those new technologies,” said Ms. Keena, managing director of Emili.
It takes time to find out whether new technology has affected a crop, and this can be a barrier to adoption for farmers. Sometimes it’s within a year, or within a few years. Ms. Keena said, “We can’t ask them to take big risks on integrating new technologies at scale as part of their operations in things that are unproven.” Innovation Farms addresses a piece of one of the barriers of people needing to be able to see these technologies rolled out in a full-scale and commercial way ahead of being able to adopt them themselves.
Farmers’ trust levels are also a barrier. Data are important to AI models, but farmers need to be better inspired to share their data in order to make the technology better. But over time, there’s an increase in engagement from farmers. “Farmer engagement is absolutely critical” to developing AI tools for agriculture. “If they’ve seen it demonstrated essentially in their backyard through a smart farm, well, then we’re that much further ahead toward adoption.”
8. What can be learned about AI from Paragraph 1?
A. It replaces employees. B. It changes how farms run.
C. It adds vegetable diversity. D. It shortens production cycle.
9. Why is AI technology tested at Emilli’s Innovation Farms?
A. To predict its future. B. To expand its market.
C. To confirm its reliability. D. To introduce its advantage.
10. What’s the key to removing the barriers?
A. Bettering AI models. B. Developing more AI tools.
C. Enlarging the farm scales. D. Gaining farmers’ recognition.
11. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. AI: a promoter of farmers’ life B. AI: a driver of agricultural development
C. Smart farms: good examples about AI adoption D. Smart farms: pioneers in agricultural innovation
D
The laborious process of tracing out our thoughts, letter by letter, on the page is becoming a relic of the past in our screen-dominated world. But giving up this slower, more tactile (触知的) way of expressing ourselves may come at a significant cost.
Both handwriting and typing involve moving our hands and fingers to create words on a page. But handwriting, it turns out, requires a lot more fine-tuned coordination (协调) between the motor and visual systems. Holding a pen skillfully enough to write is a complicated task, as it requires your brain to continuously monitor the pressure that each finger apply to the pen. Then, your motor system has to delicately modify that pressure to re-create each letter of the words in your head on the page. That’s not true for typing. To type “tap” your fingers doesn’t have to trace out the form of the letters — they just make three relatively simple and uniform movements.
The clearest consequence of screens and keyboards replacing pen and paper might be on kids’ ability to learn the building blocks of literacy — letters. In kids, these visually demanding, fine motor actions, like tracing out ABCs, bake in nervous communication patterns that are really important for learning later on. Ditching (放弃) handwriting instruction could mean that those skills don’t get developed as well, which could impair kids’ ability to learn down the road.
For adults, one of the main benefits of writing by hand is that it simply forces us to slow down. During a meeting or lecture, you can’t write everything down if you take notes by hand, which forces you to process the information, writing key words or phrases and using drawing or arrows to work through ideas. You make the information your own, which helps it stick in the brain.
However, we don’t have to ditch digital tools to embrace the power of handwriting. So far, research suggests that writing with a stylus (手写笔) on a screen activates the same brain pathways as that with ink on paper. It’s the movement that counts, not its final form.
12. What is the current situation of writing on paper?
A. It’s becoming outdated. B. It’s dominating the world.
C. It’s at risk of disappearing. D. It’s more costly than ever
13. How does the writer support his argument in paragraph 2?
A. By making comparisons. B. By giving definitions.
C. By drawing conclusions. D. By introducing evidences.
14. Which of the following is the closest in meaning to “bake in” in paragraph 3?
A. stick in. B. break up. C. melt away. D. warm up.
15. What does the author intend to show in the last paragraph?
A. The value of digital tools. B. The impact on brain pathways.
C. The significance of writing by hand. D. The difference between screen and paper.

第二节(满分25分)
57. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Digging for dinosaurs was hot work. Benny sat back on his heels and took a long drink from his water bottle. At first, when Mom and Dad had told him they were going on a dinosaur dig for vacation, he’d been excited. He’d shown off to his friends that he’d find the skeleton (骨骼) of a never-before-discovered dinosaur.
But the real dig wasn’t at all what he’d expected. For starters, he wasn’t even digging. “No shovels (铲子)”, Dave, the paleontologist (古生物学家) in charge, told them. “Any dinosaur bones buried here should be within a couple of feet of the surface. We don’t want to risk hitting around and breaking them.” Then he’d handed out ice picks and paint brushes and showed everyone how to chip and brush away sand and dirt, slowly and carefully, a little bit at a time.
“The most important thing is knowing where to look,” Dave said. “Some rocks aren’t old enough to have dinosaur bones. Other rocks are too old. We’ve studied this area before and found lots of fossils, so I’m hopeful you’ll find some too!”
Well, that had been two days ago, and so far the most exciting thing Benny had found was that his front tooth was loose. He wiggled (扭动) it now. If he couldn’t find any dinosaur bones, at least he could show his friends back home that he’d lost another tooth.
Dave sat beside Benny. “How’s it going?” he asked.
“OK” Benny said. It didn’t seem very nice to say that he was bored. “This is pretty slow.”
Dave nodded. “Yep,” he agreed. “It’s hard work. Sometimes paleontologists and fossil hunters look for weeks without finding anything. And we hardly ever find a whole skeleton.” He added, “You know, Benny, if you’re tired of searching, you can always help someone else on the crew.”
Benny looked around the dry, rocky hillside. Dave’s assistants were busy taking photographs, drawing pictures, making charts and writing notes. Dave said it was important to take good field notes, to record exactly what you did and where you were when you looked for fossils and facts for truth.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
Benny thought that he would not give up and keep looking.

Paragraph 2:
Dave hurried over to look, carefully not to disturb the ground in front of Benny’s find.

【答案】Dear Fred,
I’m writing to share with you a significant performance in an elder-care-center last weekend. A group of our volunteers visited the center in our community, aiming to show concern and support to the elderly. We organized a performance for the elderly residents, and I had the opportunity to showcase my piano skills. The moment I started playing, the heartwarming smiles lit up their faces.
This activity reminded me of the importance of caring for the elderly. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their happiness and looking forward to more such experiences.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
【57题答案】
【答案】 Benny thought that he would not give up and keep looking. After all, he had come a long way and spent so much time and effort on this project. He knew that the dinosaur bones were out there, buried in the ground, waiting to be found. And he was determined to find them. So he continued to probe the ground, looking for any signs of the ancient creatures. When he needed a break, he wiggled his loose tooth. Suddenly, his tooth dropped out of his mouth. As he stared down at the dirt to look for it, he shouted excitedly, “My tooth! My dinosaur tooth! I found a real, live dinosaur tooth!”
Dave hurried over to look, carefully not to disturb the ground in front of Benny’s find. After examining it, Dave said, “It’s a tooth all right!” “What kind is it?” Benny asked curiously. “Is it a tyrannosaur? Apatosaurus? Triceratops?” Dave laughed, but he kept studying the fossil in the ground. “Well, Benny,” he finally said, “I’ve seen a lot of dinosaur teeth, but this one’s different. I think you may have found one we haven’t seen before. Good job!”
