His 90-pound pit bull(斗牛犬), Buddy, was playing around nearby, doing what dogs do: getting into trouble. And this time, Buddy was getting into a whole lot of trouble. The unmistakable sound that no one wants to hear alone in the woods caught Benham’s attention. It was the deep, strange roar of a black bear. Benham wheeled around to see the beast, which Benham figured weighed around 350 pounds, some 100 feet away. In an instant, the bear fastened on to Buddy’s head and started dragging him away. Benham, a thin, fit, 24-year-old, took off after them. “Honestly,” he told CBS13, “the only thing I could think of was ‘save my baby’.” He lowered his shoulder and ran quickly towards the bear. But it only seized Buddy tightly. Benham grabbed the bear by the throat. Nothing. He tried getting its mouth open but the jaw was locked tight. Benham resorted to street fighting — punching the bear over and over around its mouth and nose. It worked. The bear dropped the dog and ran off into the woods. Buddy was in bad shape. His face was bloodied. He had a bite mark clear through his lip and one that barely missed an eye. “My first thought was that I was going to lose him,” Benham said. He picked up Buddy, put him into his car, and sped off to a nearby veterinarian. Buddy’s surgery took nearly four hours. Benham watched the procedure through a window, waiting for a miracle. This was the second time Benham had rescued Buddy, says CBS13. The first was from a shelter a few years ago. “If it was your kid, what would you do?” he asked. Nodding toward Buddy, he added, “That’s my kid.” 24. What is the text mainly about? A. A brave rescue. B. A regular routine. C. A fearless pet dog. D. A demanding surgery. 25. Why did the author mention the weight of the bear in paragraph 2? A. To prove the excitement of Benham. B. To describe the fear in Buddy’s heart. C. To indicate the difficulty of the rescue. D. To show the bear’s starvation and fierceness. 26. How was the dog finally saved from the bear? A. Benham defeated the beast by grabbing its throat. B. Benham ran towards the beast with dropped shoulder. C. Benham punched the beast’s mouth and nose repeatedly. D. Benham forced open the beast’s mouth by unlocking its jaw. 27. What can we know about Benham and Buddy? A.Buddy once saved Benham. B. They used to share a shelter. C. Benham had no kid but Buddy. D. They had very close relationship. C When we are desperately searching for our glasses, wallet or keys, we might wish to have a photo-graphic memory, but the truth is we are designed to forget. In fact, the majority of what we experience in a given day is likely to be forgotten in less than 24 hours. And that is a good thing. Think of all the passing encounters with people you will never see again and the times you spend waiting in a queue at the supermarket. If our brains hoarded(贮藏) every moment of every experience, we would never be able to find the information we need among an ever-increasing pile of information. So, if memory is not supposed to be a comprehensive collection of the past, what is the point of remembering at all? To answer this question, it helps to think about what it means to remember in the first place. For more than 25 years, I have studied how we are able to recall past events, an ability known as “episodic memory”. It is described as the uniquely human capability for “mental time travel, roaming at will over what has happened as readily as over what might happen, independently of the physical laws that govern the universe”. I first read this description of mental time travel when I was a graduate student, and I was deeply sceptical. Now, with the wisdom of age, I understand what it meant. When you recall a rich episodic memory, there is a noticeable feeling of being transported back to a point in your past, a specific time and place. For instance, the smell of freshly baked pastries might remind you of having breakfast with your grandmother. Findings from my lab and others have shown that, at the moment of remembering, the brain appears to return a bit to the state that it was in at the time, enabling us to relive these past experiences. This is why, if you have misplaced your keys, it can be helpful to put yourself, mentally into the context where you last saw them. Getting in touch with the sights, sounds and thoughts from an earlier time period can be an effective way of accessing those memories. 28. Why does the author think forgetfulness is a good thing? A. We are born to forget the past events. B. It helps to find the needed information. C. All the encounters are not that pleasant. D. Our brains fail to hoard important moments. 29. What do we know about “episodic memory”? A. It partly depends on the physical laws. B. It explains our ability to remember the past. C. It becomes obvious with the wisdom of age. D. It focuses on purposeful mental time travel. 30. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning freshly baked pastries? A. To express love for grandmother. B. To share a feeling of time travel. C. To illustrate a vivid episodic memory. D. To forget precious past experiences. 31. What can we do to find the misplaced keys? A. Recall the situation where we saw them. B. Search the labs where we do experiments. C. Think in our mind what they looked like. D. Write our real thoughts related to them. D Computer scientists have hoped to give robots technical skills to help them recognize, process and react to humor. But these attempts have mostly failed. AI(人工智能) experts say that in many cases, attempts to make robots understand humor end up producing funny results, but not in the way they were supposed to. Tristan Miller studied more than 10,000 puns(双关语) in one research project. The pun is a kind of joke that uses a word with two meanings. For example, you could say, “Balloons do not like pop music.” The word “pop” can be a way of saying popular music; or can mean the sound a balloon makes when it explodes. But a robot might not get the joke. Tristan Miller says that is because humor is a kind of creative language that is extremely difficult for computer intelligence to understand. Allison Bishop is a computer scientist and she also performs stand-up comedy. She explained that machines are trained to look for patterns. Comedy, on the other hand, relies on things that stay close to a pattern but not completely within it. To be funny, humor should also not be predictable, Bishop said. This sets a great obstacle for a machine to recognize and understand what is funny. Bishop says since robots have great difficulty understanding humor, she feels like it gives her better job security as a comedy performer. It even made her parents happy when her brother decided to become a full-time comedy writer because it meant he wouldn’t be replaced by a machine, she added. Despite the difficulties, Darmstadt University’s Miller says there are good reasons to keep trying to teach humor to robots. It could make machines more relatable, especially if they can learn to understand sarcasm(讽刺), he noted. Humans use sarcasm to say one thing but mean another. But Kiki Hempelmann thinks differently. “Teaching AI systems humor may make them find it where it isn’t, and they may use it where it’s inappropriate,” he said. “Maybe bad AI will start killing people because it thinks something is funny,” he added. 32. What does the author most probably want to show in Paragraph 1? A. Robots’ influence on the scientific development. B. Robots’ challenges of making sense of humor. C. Computer scientists’ devotion to technical skills. D. Computer scientists’ concern about AI’s development. 33. Examples mentioned in Paragraphs 2 and 3 are intended to ___________. A. prove robots do poorly in funny work B. explain robots aren’t as intelligent as humans C. describe language is complex and changeable D. show language can’t be taught in a set pattern 34. What does the underlined word “obstacle” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Barrier. B. Record. C. Message. D. Possibility. 35. What can we infer about teaching AI system humor from the last paragraph? A. It will end up in vain. B. It may be a double-edged sword. C. It may help improve humans’ humor. D. It will attract more computer scientists. 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分,共12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Self-learning can help you develop important skills and gain valuable knowledge. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route through thick evergreen forest. I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run. What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event! I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.” I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward. David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.” 注意: 1.词数 80 左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. _____________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第二节 书面表达(满分15分) 假如你是李华,你校将举办以“Technology Changes Life”为题的英语演讲比赛,请你根据以下要点写一篇发言稿参赛。 要点:1. 探讨科技对生活的影响(两点); 2. 你对科技所持有的态度。 注意:1. 字数90左右;2. 可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。 Technology Changes Life Good morning, everyone! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 成都市石室中学2023-2024学年度下期高2026届期末考试(英语) 参考答案 一、听力(1.5分/个) 1~5.CACBA 6~10.BCACC 11~15.BABBC 16~20.BCAAC 阅读理解 (2.5分/个) 21-23 CAD 24-27 ACCD 28-31 BBCA 32-35 BDAB 七选五(2.5分/个) 36-40 DFCBE 完形填空(1分/个) 41-45 BCCAC 46-50 BBDAA 51-55 CDABC 语法填空 (1.5分/个) 56.Established 57.an 58.its 59.has focused 60.truly 61.production 62.sustainable 63.which 64.greener 65. presence 单词拼写 (1分/个) 66. flexible 67.significant 68.Declaration 69. exhibitions 70. I whispered gently, “No one can change you, except yourself. If you resolve to rise to the challenge, just follow your inner voice.” Hearing my words, David’s face lighted up and moved up to the starting line with a determined look. The race started and David ran unsteadily, though he was tripped over now and then. Classmates all gathered along the track, yelling “Come on! You can make it!”. David finally made it to the finish line although he was the last one, which became less important. It was his bravery and determination that really counted. 话题写作 (15分/ 篇) Technology Changes Life Good morning, everyone! I’m thrilled to be here today to discuss how technology has profoundly shaped our lives. Technology has become an indispensable part of our daily lives. It has revolutionized communication, allowing us to stay connected with friends and family by means of video chats, emails, or social media. Moreover, technology has transformed the way we learn. We can access vast amounts of information as long as the Internet is available. Online courses have made learning more accessible and engaging. From my perspective, while technology brings convenience and efficiency, it may also pose problems, such as a rise in unemployment, an increased risk of personal information disclosure, etc. As technology continues to advance, it is essential for us to adapt and use it wisely to ensure a positive impact on society. The repairman is supposed to be coming this afternoon to look after it, but this is the second time it has broken down in the past two weeks, so it may not be fixable. W: Oh, man! Would you be able to run to our office in Marple? It is only a ten-minute drive. I just need to make sure I am prepared for this meeting. M: Yeah, I can do that. I actually did my training at the Marple office, so I am familiar with it. I can leave right now. (Text 9) W: Hello. I'd like an update on the Mondvale Hotel job. Are we still on schedule to begin on Monday? M: No, I'm afraid that there has been some delay in getting the decoration materials. It looks like we may be held up until Wednesday. Oh, I forgot it. Richard just got off the phone with the supplier. It looks like everything will arrive on Monday afternoon, so we could actually begin the job on Tuesday. W: That's good news. I’ll call the client this morning and let them know. M: You should also remind them that we will begin working on the guest rooms first and work our way toward the hall and first-floor reception areas last. We’ll send a large crew so the work can be finished quickly. W: How long do you think it will take to complete the job? M: We can probably be finished on Friday, as we originally planned. W: Excellent. They’re a new client with several locations in our city, so I want things to go smoothly. I'm sure there will be more work with them in the long run if all goes well. (Text 10) W: Hi my name’s Britt Foxton, and I’m the founder of a website devoted to women’s basketball, and I've also just written a book on the same subject. But first up, let me tell you how I got started with the site. Although it really got going once I was at university, it actually started out as a high-school project—you know a"design a website" kind of thing—but it wasn't like anyone expected to become real or anything. I designed a site about girls’ basketball, which I was passionate about, and called it female basket.com. I knew the name wasn't right, and before it got really successful I changed it to matchgirl.com and that was a really good move. And although it started with basketball, the site’s grown to include other games as well. It features a variety of articles and reviews on everything ranging from basketball to computer games, plus some more traditionally "girly" material as well. But the coverage of team sports is at the heart of it, anything about make-up or fashion is just secondary to that. 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
