The 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province bring athletes from
different countries and regions to compete against each other in sports. However, as we
say in China, “Friendship first, competition second. ” In the face of the challenges,
how do you think athletes can balance friendship with competition? Students who took
part in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Bilingual Student Reporters Competition
shared their opinions.
Cui Tong, 13, comes from Shanghai Jincai North Secondary School.
Balancing friendship with competition needs communication, respect and
understanding. Before a match both sides need to know that there will be no hard
feelings, no matter what the results are. Athletes should also keep in mind that playing
their hardest shows respect to their rivals. After the games, the winner can show their
understanding by speaking well of their friends performance. They can also back off
and give their friend time to accept how the game went. It is also important for the
losing athletes to congratulate their friend for their achievement.
Wang Hui, 15, comes from Tianjin School.
Competition is key in sports, so are sportsmanship and respect. If athletes hold
these values, then they can balance competition with friendship. For example, Su
Bingtians biggest rival has always been himself rather than other competitors. For him,
competition is about pushing himself to run as fast as he can. It is the very spirit of
fighting for greatness that shows sportsmanship. Competition can also lead to better
appreciation for others. Competition has never stopped Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel
Messi from admiring each others skills or showing support for each other. Competition
can be both intense and friendly.
8. What does “Friendship first, competition second” mean?
A. Pay more attention to friendship rather than competitions.
B. Competitions are more important than friendship.
C. Friendship is as important as competitions.
D. Making friends is important in competitions.
9. What do we need to balance friendship with competitions according to Cui Tong?
A. Communication, respect and love.
B. Respect and sportsmanship.
C. Understanding, love and respect.
D. Respect, communication and understanding.
10. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. Su Bingtians biggest rival is other competitors.
B. It is not necessary to congratulate friends for their success.
C. Trying our best can show our respect to rivals.
D. Competitions are bad for our spirit and body.
11. What may be the best title of the text?
A. The Opinions About Competitions B. Famous Athletes
C. The 19th Asian Games D. The Competitions

A smile shows that a person is happy. For example, a person may smile when he
or she is pleased with a grade on a test. 12. People smile for many different
reasons. But smiles are more than just a way for people to show that they are happy.
There are other good reasons to smile often.
First, it is easier to smile than to show unhappiness. In fact, it only takes 17
muscles to smile. On the other hand, it takes 43 muscles to show
unhappiness. 13.
Second, smiles are nice. People may try to look nice on the outside by exercising
or wearing nice clothes. However, there is a famous saying: A smile is the best thing a
person can wear. 14. Almost no one wants to be around someone who is
unhappy all the time.
Third, smiles have power. Both smiling and laughing can easily and quickly
spread from one person to another. If one person smiles, people around him or her want
to smile, too. Similarly, when a person laughs, people tend to laugh together. If a
person is sad, the best thing to do is share a smile or laugh. It is the easiest ( and
cheapest) way to cheer someone up.
15. Even if you are mad or sad, try smiling. Youll find that it will be
hard to stay mad or sad for very long!
根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项,选项中有
一项为多余选项。
A. Its important to smile.
B. Finally, smiling and laughing are very good for the body.
C. So give the muscles in your face a rest and smile!
D. Or a person might smile if a friend tells a funny joke.
E. That is because it is easy to be around someone who is smiling and happy.

Exercise is good for you whenever you do it, but the time of day to achieve the
best result may be different for women and men, according to a US study.
Researchers from universities in Arizona and California studied 30 women and 26
men. All their ages were between 25 and 35. The participants(参加者) were healthy
and active.
They were divided into two groups. One group exercised for an hour before 8:30 in
the morning. The other group followed the same activities in the evening, between 6:00
and 8:00. All the participants followed a specially-designed meal plan.
All those who took part in the study improved their health and performance, no
matter when they exercised. But researchers find there is “ something different going
on”. It means the best time of day to exercise is different for women and men.
According to the study, morning exercises better helped women lose fat, improve
lower body strength and reduce blood pressure. Men better burned fat and reduced
blood pressure in the evening.
Exercise also helped men improve their mood no matter the time of day. ,
the result was only seen in seven women who exercised in the evening. The researchers

research is needed to understand this.

My favourite invention is a flying bike. It is a
special bike with two wheels and two wings. The
flying bike can both run on the ground and fly in the

fast but also environment-friendly because it is

The flying bike is made by myself alone in my

Build a Civilized City
With the development of the society, people are
paying more and more attention to the construction of
the city because they would like the city they live in
to be more civilized. It is necessary to build a
civilized city. However, it requires everyones hard
work.
In my opinion, everyone should make efforts to
make our city become a civilized city. As students,
what should we do? I think we must respect our
teachers and be polite to others. We should also
help those who are in need and be friendly to the
people around us. Besides, we must obey the traffic
rules. When we cross the street, we should walk on
the zebra crossing. And we mustnt go across the
street when the traffic lights are red. Whats more,
we should protect our environment. For example,
we mustnt step on the grass and climb the trees.
Litter mustnt be thrown everywhere.
If everyone behaves well, our city will be more
beautiful and more attractive. Lets try our best to
make it a civilized city.
