05 单元限时小卷 建议用时:55分钟 1 [全国乙2023] If you want to tell the history of the whole world, a history that does not privilege one part of humanity, you cannot do it through texts alone, because only some of the world has ever had texts, while most of the world, for most of the time, has not. Writing is one of humanity’s later achievements, and until fairly recently even many literate (有文字的) societies recorded their concerns not only in writing but in things. 2 Ideally a history would bring together texts and objects, and some chapters of this book are able to do just that, but in many cases we simply can’t. The clearest example of this between literate and non-literate history is perhaps the first conflict, at Botany Bay, between Captain Cook’s voyage and the Australian Aboriginals. From the English side, we have scientific reports and the captain’s record of that terrible day. From the Australian side, we have only a wooden shield (盾) dropped by a man in flight after his first experience of gunshot. If we want to reconstruct what was actually going on that day, the shield must be questioned and interpreted as deeply and strictly as the written reports. 3 In addition to the problem of miscomprehension from both sides, there are victories accidentally or deliberately twisted, especially when only the victors know how to write. Those who are on the losing side often have only their things to tell their stories. The Caribbean Taino, the Australian Aboriginals, the African people of Benin and the Incas, all of whom appear in this book, can speak to us now of their past achievements most powerfully through the objects they made: a history told through things gives them back a voice. When we consider contact (联系) between literate and non-literate societies such as these, all our first-hand accounts are necessarily twisted, only one half of a dialogue. If we are to find the other half of that conversation, we have to read not just the texts, but the objects. 1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?( ) A A.How past events should be presented. B.What humanity is concerned about. C.Whether facts speak louder than words. D.Why written language is reliable. If you want to tell the history of the whole world… you cannot do it through texts alone和最后一句中的even many literate societies recorded their concerns not only in writing but in things可知,不能仅依赖文字记录的历史,因为世界上很多地方过去并没有文字;即便今天很多有文字的社会仍不仅使用文字,还使用物品来记录事情。 故选A项。 5 2.What does the author indicate by mentioning Captain Cook in paragraph 2?( ) D A.His report was scientific. B.He represented the local people. C.He ruled over Botany Bay. D.His record was one-sided. Ideally a history would bring together texts and objects和but in many cases we simply can’t以及下文From the English side… From the Australian side… 6 3.What does the underlined word “conversation” in paragraph 3 refer to?( ) B A.Problem. B.History. C.Voice. D.Society. If you want to tell the history of the whole world… you cannot do it through texts alone和第二段第一句以及画线词后的we have to read not just the texts, but the objects可知,记录历史不能只用文字,而要将文字和物品相结合,画线词所在句指出,如果我们想要解读“对话”的另一半,就要结合文字与物品。 7 4.Which of the following books is the text most likely selected from?( ) C A.How Maps Tell Stories of the World B.A Short History of Australia C.A History of the World in 100 Objects D.How Art Works Tell Stories 根据第一段中的even many literate societies recorded their concerns not only in writing but in things、第二段第一句中的Ideally a history would bring together texts and objects和最后一段最后一句If we are to find the other half of that conversation, we have to read not just the texts, but the objects. 9 One of the reasons why we preserve historic places is that they can continue to tell the stories of our history for the next generation. But what if the next generation doesn’t understand the value and significance of these places? 1. . Here are four things to do with kids in the classroom or at home to get them involved in and excited about historic preservation. Talk to the neighbours. Encourage kids to talk to the neighbours who have lived on their street for a long time. Find out what they remember about living there and about the people who have moved on. Maybe they have old photographs of how the street and houses used to look. 2. . Oral (口述的) histories are an invaluable resource and provide a link to the places of our past. Visit a historic site. Take kids to visit a historic site in your area, or stop by the local historical society or museum. You can often find an original map of the surrounding area at the historical society or museum. Make a project out of comparing old maps to today’s roads and neighbourhoods. 3. . What has stayed the same? 5 10 4. . Ask your historical society or local preservation organisation if there are any projects that your kids can get involved in. Help clean up and repair buildings or plant trees in or around historic areas. Create a historical record for a landmark (遗址). Brainstorm the items that should be included in a historical record, like photographs, construction dates, architectural styles and features, and stories of who lived there or used the building and for what. What kinds of things would someone want to know about this place in 50 or 100 years? 5. . A.What has changed? B.Take part in a community project. C.Create a historic walking tour of your city. D.Then, put together your own historical record. E.Do they tell different stories from different ages? F.You can also consider recording the conversation. G.That’s why it’s important to get kids involved in historic preservation. 由此可推知,设空处应承上启下;F项中的recording the conversation承接上文的Talk to the neighbours.,且与设空处后的Oral histories are an invaluable resource相呼应。 故选A项。 Ask your historical society or local preservation organisation if there are any projects that your kids can get involved in. B项(参与社区项目)中的Take part in与下文中的get involved in是同义表述,而下文中的Help clean up and repair buildings or plant trees是对参与方式的具体举例说明。 Brainstorm the items that should be included in a historical record, like… 刷7选5 14 [河南鹤壁高中2024高一段考] Katie Whetsell has been enjoying Disney movies from an early age and would often watch them with her mum, Karen. When I was young, my father was a fish and wildlife officer, so he travelled all over the province in the spring and fall. He loved his job, especially the part where he protected nature from humans. He’d taught me to fish alone, in silence, lost in my own thoughts. I still remembered that special day. Midweek, even in late August, no one was around. Police Outpost Lake is as far as you can go and still be in Canada. Songbirds, ducks, and Canada geese glided (滑翔) by in the breeze, touching down briefly on the surface of the water before flapping and quacking on their way back up into the sky, passing in front of the sun, temporarily blocking its warming rays. 29 “How can I get the fish with these birds making noise?” I complained, a rod (鱼竿) in my hand. “Be patient, Jacob. Birds won’t disturb you.” Out of the corner of my eyes, I suddenly caught a glimpse of a few great northern loons (潜鸟) staying together not far from the shoreline. Dad once told me loons usually travel alone, but here were five of them in a group. Maybe it was a family? One loon, making odd sounds, swam away from the group, towards me. This is unusual. “Dad! Come here! Take a look at this loon!” Hearing this, Dad laid his rod down on the dirty sand, walking quickly towards me. The loon rested in the shallow water near shore, not ten feet away from us. It was so close we could see its red eyes. 刷读后续写 “Look at that beak (喙)!” I said. “It could easily hurt us to death with that thing! It could tear our faces! Blind our eyes!” Walking into the water, getting closer to the loon, we both saw thin wire wrapped around its neck. Fishing line maybe? Was there a hook (鱼钩) on the line, too? Was the loon asking us for help? Reaching down, I touched its feather, my heart racing. _________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Hurry, Dad! I can’t hold this bird forever, you know!” I said. ___________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 刷读后续写 32 【写作提示】 1. Reaching down, I touched its feather, my heart racing. I could see there was a shiny red hook pierced in its body, and fishing line was wrapped tightly around its neck. I returned to the shore and came back with a tiny pair of scissors we used for snipping off the end of fishing line. “You have to hold it, Jacob. If it struggles, the hook would kill it.” When I bent down to pick up the loon, my hands were shaking, afraid that it might attack me with its beak. But the loon was silent and still. “Hurry, Dad! I can’t hold this bird forever, you know!” I said. Using the scissors, Dad cut away the fishing line from around the loon’s neck. Then, slowly but steadily, his fingers worked to loosen the hook from the bird’s flesh and finally he set the loon free. I patted the loon’s head, a gesture of gratitude that it hadn’t used its beak as a weapon. Never would I forget the scene, when that family of loons flapped and quickened their way back up into the sky. 重要性,意义 2.get… involved in 使……
