We as volunteers knew that we couldn’t let this mom and her three kids go through Christmas without anything,” the fire station wrote on Facebook. “Yes, they’re OK but it’s Christmas, right?” The fire station officials delivered Christmas gifts to the mother and her three children the following day at the local church shelter they were staying at, and in photos posted on the site, the children appeared joyful. “We brought gifts and more gifts! The kids were overjoyed and very grateful.” the station said on its post. “They were very happy to see all the gifts and the fire trucks that we brought the gifts in,” the department told USA TODAY. The kids received Barbies, Pokémon, artworks, remote control cars, blankets, clothes and shoes. The mother also received a gift card. The Facebook post was flooded with what seemed to be comments from community members touched by the generosity. “The best Christmas gifts are the ones you give! Thank you all for your wonderful service and your big hearts!” one user commented. “So thankful they are alright! We are truly blessed to live in such a giving and helping community and our fire department and rescue teams are amazing! Great job! So proud!” another user wrote. 4. What can we learn from the text? Firefighters or Santa Claus? B. Firefighters Safeguarded Us C. A Fire Brought Gifts D. Love Can Cure 【答案】4. D 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段“A Virginia family whose home was destroyed by a fire last week recently received the gift of some old-fashioned Christmas cheer from “Santa Claus” (圣诞老人).(弗吉尼亚州的一户人家上周被大火烧毁了房子,最近收到了“圣诞老人”送的有点老式的圣诞祝福礼物。)”、第三段中的“Yes, they’re OK but it’s Christmas, right?(是的,他们没事,但现在是圣诞节,对吧?)” 根据倒数第二段“The Facebook post was flooded with what seemed to be comments from community members touched by the generosity. “The best Christmas gifts are the ones you give! Thank you all for your wonderful service and your big hearts!” one user commented.(Facebook上的帖子充斥着似乎来自社区成员的评论,他们被这种慷慨感动了。 和最后一段““So thankful they are alright! We are truly blessed to live in such a giving and helping community, and our fire department and rescue teams are amazing! Great job! So proud!” another user wrote.(另一位用户写道:“非常庆幸他们没事!我们真的很幸运能生活在这样一个给予和帮助的社区,我们的消防部门和救援队真是太棒了!干得好!太骄傲了!”)”可推出,网上用户对消防局的做法非常欣赏(appreciative)。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段““It was a working structure fire and unfortunately the family lost everything. We as volunteers knew that we couldn’t let this mom and her three kids go through Christmas without anything,” the fire station wrote on Facebook. “Yes, they’re OK but it’s Christmas, right?”(“这是一场工作结构火灾,不幸的是,这家人失去了一切。作为志愿者,我们知道,我们不能让这位母亲和她的三个孩子在没有任何东西的情况下度过圣诞节。”消防局在脸书上写道。“是的,他们没事,但现在是圣诞节,对吧?”)”、第五段““We brought gifts and more gifts! The kids were overjoyed and very grateful.” the station said on its post.(“我们带来了礼物和更多的礼物!孩子们欣喜若狂,非常感激。”消防局在帖子中说。)”、第六段中的““They were very happy to see all the gifts and the fire trucks that we brought the gifts in,” the department told USA TODAY. 、倒数第二段中的““The best Christmas gifts are the ones you give! Thank you all for your wonderful service and your big hearts!” one user commented.(一位用户评论道:“最好的圣诞礼物就是你送的!感谢你们所有人的优质服务和你们的爱心!”)”、最后一段““So thankful they are alright! We are truly blessed to live in such a giving and helping community, and our fire department and rescue teams are amazing! Great job! So proud!” another user wrote.(另一位用户写道:“非常庆幸他们没事!我们真的很幸运能生活在这样一个给予和帮助的社区,我们的消防部门和救援队真是太棒了!干得好!太骄傲了!”)”可知,作者在文章中主要通过引用别人话语的形式来展开思想。故选B。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“A Virginia family whose home was destroyed by a fire last week recently received the gift of some old-fashioned Christmas cheer from “Santa Claus” (圣诞老人).(弗吉尼亚州的一户人家上周被大火烧毁了房子,最近收到了“圣诞老人”送的有点老式的圣诞祝福礼物。)”和第二段“In the spirit of Christmas, the Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department delivered presents to the family who lost their home and belongings in a house fire on Thursday.(本着圣诞节的精神,Ferrum志愿消防局为周四在一场房屋火灾中失去家园和财物的这个家庭送上了礼物。)” A。 C New research paints a lifestyle picture of the beloved pandas in China’s Wolong Nature Reserve, and the new study indicates pandas are around others more than previously thought. They use scent (气味) marking to keep track of both family members and friends, leave updates about life events, and check out the dating scene. Thomas Connor, lead author of the study, spent months watching for signs of pandas. “Once you’ve gotten an eye for it, you can see on hill tops and different trails the scent-marking trees, and the pandas seem to be doing this a lot,” Connor says. “It is pretty evident that they are exchanging information through scent marking behavior.” To link the marked trees with an understanding of panda’s social structure, the researchers needed to document nearby panda communities. Connor teamed up with coauthor Ken Frank who said, “I told him that once he has data on which pandas are close to each other, we can use the techniques and theories that apply to humans to understand their social networks. And these scent trees are a social media. Like Facebook, you don’t have to be in the same place at the same time. It allows one to broadcast to many, and it’s a record. Connor dug into a wealth of data he had collected in the form of fresh panda waste, which is the gold standard of panda watching. Information from the waste allowed them to identify specific pandas in the area around the scent-marking trees, and showed if these pandas were related to each other. The discoveries in this study show that pandas are a part of coupled human and natural systems where humans share their habitat. Anything about how they live and what they need can ultimately help inform good conservation policies and maybe understand our own behavior a little more. 8. Who tend to go around the pandas’ scent-marking trees? A. Their family. B. Some strange pandas. C. Their keepers. D. Meat-sourced animals. 9. Why did pandas make so many scent markings according to Thomas Connor? A. Because they need to extend their domain. B. Because they use them to exchange information. C. Because they want to expose themselves to others. D. Because they tend to keep away from humans. 10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The purpose of the study. B. The research strategy of the study. C. The further finding of the study. D. The influence of the discoveries. 11. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text? A. To introduce a new research on pandas. B. To explain the pandas’ scent marking behavior. C. To emphasize the significance of knowing pandas. D. To call for action to protect pandas. A 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第一段“New research paints a lifestyle picture of the beloved pandas in China’s Wolong Nature Reserve, and the new study indicates pandas are around others more than previously thought. They use scent (气味) marking to keep track of both family members and friends, leave updates about life events, and check out the dating scene.(新的研究描绘了中国卧龙自然保护区备受喜爱的大熊猫的生活方式,新的研究表明,大熊猫与他人相处的时间比以前想象的要多。他们使用气味标记来跟踪家人和朋友,留下关于生活事件的最新消息,并查看约会场景)”可知,大熊猫使用气味标记来跟踪家人和朋友,留下关于生活事件的最新消息,并查看约会场景,所以它们的家人会在气味标记过的树周围。故选A。 根据第二段的“It is pretty evident that they are exchanging information through scent marking behavior.(很明显,它们是通过气味标记行为来交换信息的)”可知,Connor认为大熊猫通过气味标记行为来交换信息。 根据第四段“Connor dug into a wealth of data he had collected in the form of fresh panda waste, which is the gold standard of panda watching. Information from the waste allowed them to identify specific pandas in the area around the scent-marking trees, and showed if these pandas were related to each other.(Connor挖掘了他以新鲜熊猫粪便的形式收集的大量数据,这是观看熊猫的黄金标准。 根据第一段“New research paints a lifestyle picture of the beloved pandas in China’s Wolong Nature Reserve, and the new study indicates pandas are around others more than previously thought. They use scent (气味) marking to keep track of both family members and friends, leave updates about life events, and check out the dating scene.(新的研究描绘了中国卧龙自然保护区备受喜爱的大熊猫的生活方式,新的研究表明,大熊猫与他人相处的时间比以前想象的要多。他们使用气味标记来跟踪家人和朋友,留下关于生活事件的最新消息,并查看约会场景)”以及全文可知,本文介绍一项关于大熊猫的新发现开始,详细阐述了大熊猫的社交行为,特别是气味标记的作用,以及这项研究的意义。文章的目的在于向读者展示关于大熊猫的新研究。故选A。 D When floods completely destroyed Bangkok more than a decade ago, Thai landscape architect, Kotchakorn Voraakhom became determined to help her sinking hometown fight this deadly climate threat. “The floods changed my life,” said Voraakhom, who studied at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. “It was the turning point, when I started using the tools of landscape architecture to cope with climate change.” Voraakhom’s fantastic projects in Bangkok include a park that can hold up to one million gallons of water, Asia’s largest rooftop farm, an elevated walkway installed on a bridge and a lush (草木繁茂的) canal park in the city center. One of Voraakhom’s most innovative designs is Centenary Park in Chulalongkorn University. The park stores large amounts of rainwater and prevents the surrounding streets from flooding. Built on an incline (斜坡), it directs runoff water through inclined gardens and artificial wetlands. From there, water flows into a retention pond (澄清的) with a capacity of nearly 480,000 gallons. Beneath the soil is an additional water tank which can hold nearly 160,000 gallons. The entire park can store up to one million gallons of water. Voraakhom also created Asia’s largest rooftop farm, Siam Green Sky, transforming 22,400 square meters (241,000 square feet) into a lush field. The farm, which recycles food waste from restaurants in the building below and uses it as plant fertilizer (肥料), also slows down, soaks up and stores large amounts of rainwater. It is then used to grow vegetables, herbs and fruit, as well as rice. The architect said she integrates nature and water into her designs to create landscapes that help alleviate flooding and add greenery to densely populated cities. The central question sinking cities like Bangkok need to focus on is: “how are we going to live with the water, without fear?” said Voraakhom. This idea of “living with the water” lies at the heart of her design approach. 12. What did Kotchakorn focus on to cope with flooding? A. Green coverage. B. Soil conservation. C. Architecture design. D. Alternative resources. 13. Which is not included in the architect’s projects? A. Centenary Park. B. Siam Green Sky. C. An elevated walkway. D. Chulalongkorn University. 14. What does the underlined word “alleviate” in paragraph 5 refer to? A. Make less severe. B. Get better. C. Adapt itself to. D. Take in. 15. What effect would Centenary Park have on viewers? A. Calming. B. Disturbing. C. Refreshing. D. Challenging. C 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第一段中的“It was the turning point, when I started using the tools of landscape architecture to cope with climate change.(这是一个转折点,我开始使用景观建筑的工具来应对气候变化。)” 根据第二段“Voraakhom’s fantastic projects in Bangkok include a park that can hold up to one million gallons of water, Asia’s largest rooftop farm, an elevated walkway installed on a bridge and a lush (草木繁茂的) canal park in the city center.(Voraakhom在曼谷的精彩项目包括一个可容纳100万加仑水的公园、亚洲最大的屋顶农场、一条安装在桥上的高架人行道以及市中心一个郁郁葱葱的运河公园。)”、第三段中的“One of Voraakhom’s most innovative designs is Centenary Park in Chulalongkorn University.(Voraakhom最具创新性的设计之一是朱拉隆功大学的百年纪念公园。)”、第四段中的“Voraakhom also created Asia’s largest rooftop farm, Siam Green Sky, transforming 22,400 square meters (241,000 square feet) into a lush field.(Voraakhom还创建了亚洲最大的屋顶农场Siam Green Sky,将22400平方米(241000平方英尺)改造成了郁郁葱葱的田地。)” 根据第一段中“When floods completely destroyed Bangkok more than a decade ago, Thai landscape architect, Kotchakorn Voraakhom became determined to help her sinking hometown fight this deadly climate threat.(十多年前,当洪水完全摧毁曼谷时,泰国景观设计师Kotchakorn Voraakhom决心帮助她正在下沉的家乡应对这一致命的气候威胁。)” 故选A。 根据第三段中的“The park stores large amounts of rainwater and prevents the surrounding streets from flooding. Built on an incline (斜坡), it directs runoff water through inclined gardens and artificial wetlands.(公园储存了大量的雨水,防止周围的街道被淹。它建在斜坡上,引导径流通过倾斜的花园和人工湿地。)”和最后一段中的“The architect said she integrates nature and water into her designs to create landscapes that help alleviate flooding and add greenery to densely populated cities.(这位设计师说,她将自然和水融入到自己的设计中,创造出有助于缓解洪水并为人口稠密的城市增添绿色的景观。)” Living and studying abroad can be a rewarding and enriching experience. 【16题详解】 上文“Living and studying abroad can be a rewarding and enriching experience. And living with a host family is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in its culture. However, living with a foreign family can be difficult and adjusting to it can take some effort. 【17题详解】 上文“For example, some families like having dinner together on weekends. (例如,有些家庭喜欢在周末一起吃晚饭)”以及下文“Not only will they appreciate it but you will also feel like a part of their world.(他们不仅会欣赏它,而且你也会觉得自己是他们世界的一部分)”说明一些家庭周末喜欢一起吃饭,而参与这些活动会有积极效果。空处承上启下,B项中的“those moments”和上文中的“some families like having dinner together on weekends.” 【18题详解】 上文“Keep in mind that you’ve just left everything you’ve known for years behind to start a new life. It’s okay to be confused.(请记住,你刚刚放弃了多年来所知道的一切,开始了新的生活。困惑是可以的)”以及下文“While you may know the language, some expressions and slang can be hard to grasp at first. (虽然你可能知道这种语言,但一些表达方式和俚语一开始可能很难掌握)”说明在国外学习生活意味着放弃了多年来所知道的一切,开始了新的生活,困惑是正常的。空处承上启下,C项中的aslo和前文形成递进关系,“The language barrier”和下文的“some expressions and slang can be hard to grasp”相呼应,说明语言障碍也是适应过程中的一项挑战。故选C。 【19题详解】 上文“If you are unsure about something, ask! It’s normal to know few customs and habits at first. (如果你对某事不确定,请询问!刚开始了解一些风俗习惯是很正常的)”说明如果有不确定的事情要问,尝试去了解一些风俗习惯。空处和上文形成因果关系,表示在了解的过程中需要大胆去询问。D项中的“just ask!”和前文中的“If you are unsure about something, ask!” 【20题详解】 下文“You have to understand that host families are not just providing a roof over your head. They are making significant changes to their daily routines. Thank them for their kindness, patience and understanding. Pets are always part of a family. Canoeing is a water sport practiced in a light narrow boat with a paddle. It can be very dangerous, especially if the river has rapids, a fast-flowing part of a river. Since it requires strength, balance and a lot of skills, all the students are trained hard. To qualify for the trip, the whole class had to be able to swim. However, John had a problem. He weighed over 180 pounds. He had never learned to swim before, so he took swimming lessons and worked hard for many weeks. He eventually graduated with a certificate saying that he could swim. John’s classmates were all glad to have him along—all except one person, Nicky. She didn’t like him. In fact, she seemed not to like many. She was on the school water polo team. She was a swimming star and extremely proud of herself too. The trip went well and everyone enjoyed the day. That is, until the end of the trip when they were heading down some rapids. Nicky had been warned over and over to wear her life jacket, but she did not listen to others. When they arrived at a steep valley, the speed of the water picked up. They entered some dangerous rapids. All of a sudden, their canoes turned over. They were all thrown into the water—all except John! He was heavy enough and somehow was not thrown into the water. They all swam back to the canoe where John quickly pulled them in. Then, they saw Nicky’s life jacket floating on the water. She was not wearing it when the accident happened. When they spotted her floating on the water, she was barely conscious. She was in serious danger. It seemed like she had hit her head on a rock. As they were approaching her, their canoes broke loose from the tree branches they were stuck to and sent them farther away from Nicky. Everyone in the canoes looked in horror as the current dragged Nicky away from them. Someone exclaimed, “we’ve got to help her!” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finding Nicky opening her eyes, everyone sighed with relief. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Someone exclaimed, “We’ve got to help her!” Before anyone could react, a figure with a life jacket had already jumped into the turbulent water. “It was John!” a boy shouted. He was carried along by the rapid flow, floating up and down. He struggled against the fierce current. Thanks to his weight and exquisite swimming skills, he managed to keep his balance. He went all out to swim toward Nicky. Cold as the water was, John didn’t care. As the water became faster, John felt himself being pulled under by the strong current. But he didn’t give up. With all his might, he tried to reach out and grab Nicky’s arm. Fortunately, he made it. He clutched onto her tightly while putting a life jacket on her. Meanwhile, other students paddled hard to reach them. Eventually, Nicky was dragged back to the canoe. They started to perform CPR on Nicky. All the class looked at her with anxiety. Finding Nicky opening her eyes, everyone sighed with relief. “Are you okay?” one of them asked gently. Nicky nodded slowly and said, “Yeah, thank you all for saving me.” Suddenly, a voice exclaimed, “John saved all of us!” Nicky turned to look at John with deep gratitude and said, “Thank you, John! I don’t know what would have happened to me without you. Could you forgive me for being so rude to you?” John smiled and said, “Of course, I just did what anyone else would have done.” At that time, Nicky realized that John wasn’t the big, slow and clumsy guy she had always thought him to be. Actually, he was the real hero, brave and strong. It was the unlikely hero in her eyes that saved her life. From that day on, Nicky and John became friends. Nicky was no longer the proud and self-centered swimmer that she had been. Instead, she changed into an easy-going girl. It was kindness and forgiveness that broke down the barrier. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①全力以赴:go all out to do…/spare no effort to do… ②放弃:give up/quit ③抓紧:clutch onto/hold tightly 情绪类 ①焦急地:with anxiety/in anxiety/anxiously/impatiently ②感激:gratitude/appreciation/thankfulness 【点睛】【高分句型1】At that time, Nicky realized that John wasn’t the big, slow and clumsy guy she had always thought him to be.(使用了that引导宾语从句、省略关系词的定语从句、不定式作宾补) 【高分句型2】It was the unlikely hero in her eyes that saved her life. Love Can Cure C New research paints a lifestyle picture of the beloved pandas in China’s Wolong Nature Reserve, and the new study indicates pandas are around others more than previously thought. C To emphasize the significance of knowing pandas. D. To call for action to protect pandas. D When floods completely destroyed Bangkok more than a decade ago, Thai landscape architect, Kotchakorn Voraakhom became determined to help her sinking hometown fight this deadly climate threat. Voraakhom also created Asia’s largest rooftop farm Siam Green Sky, transforming 22,400 square meters (241,000 square feet) into a lush field. 第二节(共5 小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Living and studying abroad can be a rewarding and enriching experience. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Someone exclaimed, “we’ve got to help her!” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finding Nicky opening her eyes, everyone sighed with relief. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1-5 ACBAC 6-10CABAC 11-15 CBBBC 16-20ACAAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
