Once upon a time, the colours in the world started to argue. All thought
they were the most important and useful.
Green said, “I’m the symbol of life and hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Look around and you will see me everywhere.”
Blue followed, “You only consider the earth, but look at the sky and the sea.”
Yellow smiled, “I bring hope and warmth into the world. Look at the

nobody can take my place.”
Purple stood up, “I’m the colour of power. Kings have always chosen

A green classroom used to be a classroom whose walls were green. But
today’s green classrooms are “greener” than that! New “green”
classrooms help schools save money and provide clean environment where
students learn better.
Many classrooms are going green by adding solar panels(太阳能电池
板) to their roofs. The solar panels collect energy from the sun and use it to
power lights and computers. The panels help create at least as much
electricity(电力) as the classrooms use. They can also cut down the cost of
energy.
Many new “green” classrooms are built by using recycled things.

Green schools have other new ideas. Some classrooms are painted with
special paint that helps improve indoor air quality. Some use windows that
help keep classrooms warm in cold weather and let in lots of natural daylight.
Others no longer use glue that adds chemical(化学的) smells to the air.
Experts(专家) say that green classrooms are good for education.
Studies show that the environment with good air can cut colds and flu by
more than 50 per cent. That means fewer sick days for students and teachers.
Studies have also shown that natural light and other green features improve
students’ learning and marks in tests too.

“Do you think you can win this competition, Caroline?” Mrs Winter-bottom asked her daughter.
“I don’t know, Mum. But I’ll do my best.”
“I know, my dear. Just remember that your father pays a lot of money
for the horse, a lot of money for the stables(马厩), and a lot of money
for the riding club.”
“I know, Mum, I know. I’ll do my best. I really will.”

Caroline always did her best, but it was never enough. She was a good
rider, and her horse Applewind was a great horse. She went to Sunshine
Stables to ride Applewind. And she never missed a competition. But Sophie
Craig was always better than her. Sophie won almost all of the competitions, and Sophie’s horse Blossom was everybody’s darling. Everyone loved Sophie and Blossom.

“If you really want to win, you will win,” Caroline’s dad said. He
said the same thing before every competition. “It’s the same with my work. I
want to win, so I win. Life is about winning. You have to learn that,
Caroline!”
Caroline sighed. “Dad,” she said, “I want to win too. But Sophie
is too good.” “You have to be better than her,” Mr Winterbottom said.
“If you don’t win, Caroline, I’ll sell your horse. No trophy(奖杯),
no horse! When is the next competition?”
“In five days, Dad,” Caroline said.

Fred was sorry for his sister. He wanted to help her. But how? Caroline
was right. Sophie was good. And Blossom was a great horse. Caroline
worked hard, but Sophie also worked hard. Fred didn’t know what to do.
He sat down in his favourite armchair and fell asleep. Suddenly, he woke up
with a jump.
“Sleep! That’s the answer. Dad’s sleeping pills!”
He went to the bathroom. A minute later, he had five sleeping pills in
his hand.

It was the day of the competition. “Hello, Sophie,” smiled Mr Morley, the head of Sunshine Stables.
“The winner today qualifies(取得资格) for an international competition.” “I know, sir. That would be great!” “Good luck then,
Sophie.” “Thank you, sir.”
“Did you hear that, Blossom?” Sophie whispered into Blossom’s
ear. “We must win the competition today. Let’s go and get ready!” Sophie
went to her box(马栏). Fred was there.
“Hi, Fred,” she said. “How’s Caroline?”

“Be more confident,” said Fred. “Hey, good luck, Sister!”

her dad would sell Applewind. Caroline wanted to cry, but she had to be
brave.

Do you realize the importance of eye care in your daily life? It is said
that if you take care of your body, then you can surely be healthy. 46 .
Natural eye care should be put in a No.1 place.
There are several causes leading to poor eyesight like not enough food,
gene and aging. 47 If you happen to work in front of the computer, it is
good to take a break every once in a while. Something dirty can cause redness, which will make you feel uncomfortable. It is bad for your eyes
too. If this happens, the best way is to clean your eyes by using cold water. 48 For example, sunglasses are not just for fashion but can also
serve as a great way to protect your eyesight from UV rays.

49 Remember that vitamins A, C and E are good for eyes. Try to
eat food groups that have these vitamins. And you should do eye exercises
because they protect your eyesight too. If a person does eye exercises
regularly and eats the right kind of food, his eyes will stay in good
condition for a long time.
All above are natural ways of eye care that help us keep healthy eyes. It
is necessary for you to have a good mood. 50 In a word, eye care is
very important, no matter how old a person is.
