四、 (丽水中考改编)阅读理解。(每小题10分,共40分)
When Drew Mascotti graduated from high school, he got a job—
delivering(送) pizzas. But soon he realized that it wasn’t what he wanted
to do for the rest of his life. So he took a night class at a local tech school to
see if welding(焊接)—which joins two metals together with heat—was a
skill that he could stick to as a job.
It was. Mascotti wanted to learn everything about welding and decided
he’d make welding his career.
一

But one night class wouldn’t be enough. Mascotti went to Hobart
Welding School in Ohio for real, technical training. Besides welding
courses, Mascotti also took classes in subjects like metallurgy—the study of
metal—and reading blueprints. He became more certain that he would stick to
the job.

For the past 19 years, Mascotti has been a welder. He now works for
the EEW Group. The company has a big project to carry out. It’s in the
process of opening a factory that will produce monopiles for offshore wind
turbines(涡轮机). Wind turbines produce eco-friendly electricity.
A typical day for Mascotti includes a number of tasks and skills. One
minute, he’s driving a forklift. The next, he’s reading blueprints, or
cutting materials. “There is a lot to deal with,” he said. “It’s not just
welding.”
一

Mascotti’s favourite part of being a welder is “making an honest
living”. He also takes pride in helping the environment. “I’m glad to stick
to what I really want to do,” he says. “I’m working for a company that is
helping the country to go green, and it’s satisfying to be a part of that
process.”

四、 (福建中考)阅读理解。(每小题10分,共40分)
Success is often considered to be the opposite of failure. To teenagers,
it is the achievement of a goal or completion of something they really need,
such as good grades and the ability to get along well with their classmates.
Some schools used to agree with most parents who measured(判定) the
success of their children according to grades, but now they pay special
attention to moral(道德的) education and character-building to make sure
that teenagers achieve success in building human relationships.
一
二
三
四
Schools give chances to students to discover their hidden ability so that
they can enjoy their success. For example, those good at speaking are
advised to take part in speech competitions while those interested in the arts
are expected to perform in front of their classmates. Teenagers also get the
pleasure of success when they join their favourite clubs.
一
二
三
四
Teenagers are often told that success is not easy to achieve and that
success lies in hard work. Great efforts have to be put into project work.
Doing things much later than planned should be avoided as this will lead to a
mountain of work which finally makes teenagers nervous. Another good
quality is a sense of responsibility which makes teenagers remember that a
task has to be completed.
一
二
三
四
Sticking to moral values is the key to success too. Honest teenagers will
win the trust of friends. Self-motivation(自我激励) is another quality to
be developed, for self-motivated teenagers will have a strong will and drive
to perform a task and finally get to enjoy a sense of achievement.

heavier. The young lady noticed that some cars and big transport trucks were
pulling over(靠边停车) to the side of the road. The young lady asked her
father again if they should stop. But her father said nothing. So, she had to

Ten minutes later, the storm started to become not so heavy and she

Her father told her to stop and get out of the car.
“But why now, Dad?” she asked in surprise.
Her father said, “When you get out, you can look back at all the
people in cars and big trucks that gave up and they are still in the storm.
Now, your storm is over because you didn’t give up.”
