Today I headed into town for a job interview. The weather was awful, for it was pouring with rain, and I would’ve loved to buy umbrellas for people. I decided to think of free or really cheap ways to make people smile. I knew I’d also have to deal with my shyness, or just create acts of kindness, but it was a challenge that I was willing to accept!
When I was on the bus, the seat I sat on next to the window was wet; somehow the rain had gotten in. I left a note on the seat, with the Smile Card, saying, “This seat is wet: sit with caution (谨慎) !” Later, while waiting at the road crossing, I held my card over the woman standing in front of me. She didn’t notice but obviously those extra moments of dryness would help!
After the interview, I’d devised a few more ways to create smiles. I checked my purse for change and put 50 pence and a Smile Card on top of a child’s automatic ride. I allowed an elderly gentleman to go in front of me as he was having trouble standing. At this point, I was really beginning to accept my day of kindness!
Before getting on the bus home. I had one more idea: I went and bought a small bag of chocolates and attached a Smile Card. When I got back to my street, I left the sweets and the Smile Card at a neighbour’s door. This neighbour had taken in a parcel (包裹) for me last week, so he deserved a treat.
After all this, my day of giving wasn’t yet over! I was so pleased that I managed to do all these little things for others today. It didn’t take much effort on my part, but I definitely had to push myself to overcome (克服) my lack of confidence, and I’m proud of myself.

B.To thank the neighbour for the help last week.

D.To try to trouble the neighbour to take in his parcel.
27.What message does the writer convey?
A.A friend in need is a friend indeed.
B.Any act of kindness matters.
C.Shyness makes it difficult to succeed.
D.Believe in yourself first, then others will believe you.

We know that smartphone addiction is real, and that it can affect lives in negative ways. While some people have tried going cold turkey (快速戒掉坏习惯)or even punishing themselves for using their mobile phones, an app is made available in the UK that rewards people for staying away from their devices.
The app, called Hold, was created by Norwegians Maths Mathisen, Florian Winder, and Vinoth Vinaya while they are studying at Copenhagen's Business school to help break fellow students' attachments to their devices.
The three college students found that positive reinforcement (强化)was the best way of beating smartphone addiction. Hold allows students to collect points for staying off their devices between the hours of 7 am and 11 pm; they get 10 points for every 20 minutes.
Through partnerships with universities and businesses, points can be used for discounts on everything from cinema tickets to Amazon goods to cafe food and drink. A half price cinema ticket, for example, costs 60 points, or 2 hours away from a phone. And a £ 5 ( $6. 88 ) Amazon voucher (代金券)needs 1 ,000 points, or 33 hours off your smartphone.
Students can also use their points to buy school books and stationery (文具),which are then donated to schools partnered with children's charity Unicef.
Over 120,000 people use the app in Scandinavia, including 40 percent of higher education students in Norway, where Hold first came onto market in February 2016. It's now available to students from over 170 universities in the UK.
A 2017 University of Texas study claimed that merely placing a smartphone in someone's line of sight slowed down their productivity, response time, and reduced their grades. An earlier study from the London School of Economics found students who didn't use smartphones on school grounds saw their test scores increase 6. 4 percent.

C.find new uses of mobile phone. D.help students put down their smartphones.

C.To give a brief introduction of Hold D.To attract potential customers to Hold
31.Where is the text most likely to appear ?
A.A newspaper advertisement B.A computer textbook

Playing a musical instrument throughout your life protects your hearing in old age, a Canadian study suggests. The study, published in Psychology and Aging, carried out hearing tests on 74 adult musicians and 89 non-musicians. It found a 70-year-old musician’s hearing was as good as that of a 50-year-old who did not play.
Hearing normally declines as people age. By 60, 10-30%of people have moderate hearing loss. By 80, that goes up to as many as 60%. Problems are particularly seen in the central auditory (听觉的) processing system, which is associated with understanding speech, especially when there is background noise.
Previous studies have shown musicians have better hearing than non-players. But this research, by a team at the Rotman Research Institute in Toronto, looked at adults of all ages — from 18 to 91 — to see how people were affected as they aged. They carried out hearing tests on 74 amateur and professional musicians (who had played since the age of 16, were still practising and had been given formal music lessons) and 89 non-musicians (who had never played an instrument). Musicians were significantly better at picking out speech against noise.
The researchers suggest that lifelong musicianship reduces age-related changes in the brain, probably due to musicians using their auditory systems at a high level on a regular basis.
The head of biomedical research at Action on Hearing Loss, Dr. Ralph Holme, said: “While this study suggests that musicians might be more able to cope with the consequences of hearing loss, it is far better to reduce damage in the first place by using appropriate ear protection. We have always campaigned for everyone who plays a musical instrument or listens to loud music to wear hearing protection, like earplugs, which reduce the risk of damaging your hearing permanently.”
32.What can we get from the Canadian study?
A.It tested the hearing of 162 people.
B.The finding of the study wasn’t published publicly.
C.Playing a musical instrument may do good to hearing.
D.Musicians were as good at picking out speech against noise as non-musicians.
33.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.A person aged 80 will lose 30%hearing.
B.A person aged above 60 must have bad hearing .
C.People have fewer problems with background noise.
D.People’s hearing usually becomes worse when they get older.
34.Why don’t musicians change much in their brain as they age?
A.They like to take more exercise.
B.They use their hearing more and regularly.
C.They don’t expose themselves to background noise.
D.They pay more attention to protecting their hearing.
35.How can we deal with hearing loss according to Dr. Ralph Holme?
A.Get help from musicians. B.Listen to loud music less.
C.Protect hearing properly. D.Play a musical instrument more.

第二节(满分25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The paper on my desk was yellow, with straight blue lines stretching across it. The lines repeated themselves all the way down the page. I counted them. Twenty-six straight lines ran across the paper. The yellow color reminded me of sunshine. In summer, the sun is bright yellow like that, and sky is blue like those lines. I loved blue-blue is for getting lost in…
“You haven’t written a word yet, have you?” Miss Perry had found me out. I hung my head, as in past years, and gave her the lines I had given to previous teachers.
“I don’t feel like it.”
The truth was that I wanted to write about something different. “Write about Your Best Friend,” demanded the assignment on the board. I didn’t have a best friend. I had a few friends, but I didn’t want to claim any of them as my “best”, because I was afraid they might pick someone else. What if I picked a “best” friend and then someone different, who thought I was their best friend, heard my paragraph read aloud and never spoke to me again? It was a stupid topic. I was disappointed in Miss Perry for choosing it.
I knew Miss Perry must have heard about me from my other teachers. I had already prepared myself for another year of listening to teachers scold me. I was only nine years old, but my ears had been full to the voices of my elders. My teachers, my parents and the school principal had all given me the speech “What are we supposed to do with you?”. That was probably what Miss Perry was about to say, too.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
However, there was something different about Miss Perry.

【原文】When you stay in a hotel, there are some things you should know about. First you have to tip. The bell-man gets 50 cents to $1 per bag for taking your luggage to your room. Maids usually don’t expect a tip, but if you stay more than a few days or if your maid does something special for you, a $2 tip is a good idea. Room service waiters should get 15% of a bill. Electricity in North America is 110 volts — not 220. This means you won’t be able to use your hair dryer or your electric razor unless you can change it to 110 volts. When telephoning from your hotel room, you will often have to go through the hotel switchboard, especially for a long-distance call. These calls can be quite expensive, because the hotel usually adds a high service charge to the calls you make. On the other hand, local calls can generally be made from your room by dialing direct. You can also ask the hotel receptionist to give you a wake-up call in the morning. You will always find soap, towels and linen in hotel and motel rooms in the US.

W: Well, I guess he’s looking for a change. Anyway, we’re holding an office party on his last day to say goodbye and wish him good luck. It will be in the break room at 4:00 p.m.
M: I’ll be finishing up a meeting at that time, so I might be a little late, but I’ll be there.

Aware that you have a keen interest in the annual science technology festival held in our school yesterday, I’m delighted to share with you some information about it.

67.However, there was something different about Miss Perry. Instead of scolding me, which was often the case, Miss Perry, with a benevolent smile, said, “I bet you must have a better topic to write.” Never expecting that she would have dealt with me so mildly, I stared at her in total disbelief with eyes popping out. Then Miss Perry nodded in affirmation, indicating that she meant what she said. I somehow grabbed a pen and started my composition, and soon a world full of sunshine and blue sky came alive on my paper. When Miss Perry read through my work, her face seemed to be permeated with sunshine and blue sky. “Well done!” she announced and patted me on the back tenderly.
I bet I was touched. It was the first time that my work had been recognized and my body had been touched by a teacher. I knew the sunshine from Miss Perry had pierced through my hard shell and was beginning to melt the solid ice in my heart. Afterwards, I turned to get involved in activities of sorts more actively, take to studying more attentively and befriend people around more faithfully. Miss Perry, as well as others, was gratified to see all the changes in me, which I largely owed to a different Miss Perry.
