On the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown. Everything about the school seemed so difficult. When I got home, my parents said, “You’re nervous and that’s okay. Everyone is afraid of high school.” I denied it. I wanted to be strong, so I refused to let anyone know about my fear, even my closest friends.
On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost. The school seemed like a puzzle that I couldn’t figure out. Was this how the whole year was going to be? I didn’t think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it!
Despite my fears, after the first week I finally had my schedule figured out. With the exception of falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad. It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging. Since then, I’ve been elected (选举) the vice monitor of my class, which wasn’t much of a victory since only three people ran for the four positions.
It is normal to be scared of a new school. Take a deep breath and relax. High school is not so frightening. Make sure you participate in some outofclass activities because you’ll find it easier to make friends. Try to do your best, even if it isn’t straight A’s.
Most important of all, be who you are, whether you’re a“fool”, an athlete, or a lower grader. Don’t try to pretend to be someone you’re not. Now you know the secret of my success.
24.What is the main reason for the author’s fear on his first day in high school ?
A.He was unable to work out the puzzle.
B.His schoolmates were unfriendly to him.
C.He was not familiar with the new surroundings.
D.His schoolbag was too heavy for him to carry.
25.What can we infer from the author’s first day’s experience?
A.He didn’t know the right way to class.
B.He got to school before classes began.
C.He was fond of the school immediately.
D.His home was very far from the school.
26.What can be learnt about the author after his first week at school?
A.He was still not accustomed to the schedule.
B.He was gradually used to the new school.
C.He found high school not so challenging as he had imagined.
D.He ran for monitor of his class against three other students.
27.What is the secret of the author’s success according to the passage?
A.Making more friends.
B.Being who he really is.
C.Getting straight A’s at school.
D.Joining in outofclass activities.
C
However seemingly boring, the choices we make in social activities almost always depend on those with whom we’re dealing. If we’re out of work, for example, and meet someone for the first time, we would tend to act differently if we believe he or she is a potential (潜在的) boss. We’d probably be more attentive, keep longer eye contact, choose our words a little more carefully, speak with increased confidence, and so on. With good friends, or perhaps those who don’t have high respect, our conduct would almost certainly be less respectful. Who the receiver is and, or rather, the status (地位) level that we attach to him or her, affects how we express ourselves.
Our feelings about the use of laughter and humor will also depend on those with whom we’re relating. Their status will help direct the course of activities. We feel more comfortable expressing laughter in the presence of close friends than near a scientist or a leader.
Not only will we adjust our direction of conversation based on others’ status, but also on their emotional state or mood at the time of the exchange. If friends are celebrating their job promotion, we’re going to be more comfortable laughing with them than under more typical conditions. If they’re dealing with a job loss, we’ll probably avoid drawing attention to their job.
As social animals, we’re born with an ability to “read” the status and the emotional state of others. This is true even when dealing with strangers. Most of the time their clues are nonverbal (非语言的), many being realized subconsciously (下意识地). For example, expensive clothing or watches might show their financial status; something about their facial expressions or willingness to make eye contact can suggest their mood.
This will lead us to the next, and maybe most important question: What is the nature of the relationship between the sender and the receiver or receivers? The answer directly affects our ability to understand who someone is and how they are. This will be the topic I deal with beginning with my next chapter.
28.What does the example in Paragraph 1 suggest?
A.Shared respect is the basis of friendships. B.The choices we make are of great importance.
C.Social activities are affected by status. D.Communication is easier between equal partners.
29.With whom do we feel most comfortable laughing?
A.A potential boss. B.A newly married friend.
C.A recently-promoted leader. D.A prize-winning scientist.
30.How can we read strangers’ emotional state?
A.By observing how they dress. B.By asking about their wish to talk.
C.By focusing on their conversational clues. D.By understanding their body language.
31.Where is the text most probably taken from?
A.An official report. B.A philosophy magazine.
C.A textbook. D.A social science book.

The cry of the fishing cat sounds like the quack of a duck, and the rest of this midsize cat also enables it to hunt (猎食) in the water. Its streamlined head is perfect for moves in the mangrove swamps (红树林沼泽地) and wetlands of South and Southeast Asia, and its pointy ears even fold (折叠) down when it jumps into deep water. The short and strong tail helps control its direction. The extra-thick coat keeps it warm and dry while swimming.
“I found fishing cats to be very ingenious,” says Tiasa Adhya, co-founder of The Fishing Cat Project, a research and conservation group based in eastern India. Her research recently showed that the animal has two methods of catching fish. In deep waters, the cat stays still on the banks for hours before jumping into the water for the kill. In shallow waters, though, the cat actively drives the fish out of their hiding places by moving about with heavy steps.
Now the fishing cat is facing another challenge: humans. The world has lost almost 90 percent of its wetlands since the 1700s, with Asia suffering the greatest loss. These days, industrialized fish farming, pollution and other human behaviors have destroyed the living condition of freshwater fish and set fishing cats against farmers, as the hungry cats steal farmed fish, and the farmers get even with them. Once found along river systems from Pakistan to Vietnam, the cats have disappeared from large areas of their range.
Researchers are testing new methods, including the commercial launch (商业化推出) of a type of native rice variety. Depending on nutrients (营养物) washed in by rains rather than on chemicals, the rice creates living space for the fishing cat and its food. The idea is that in healthy lakes where there is plenty to feed fishing cats and fishermen alike, killings will be unnecessary. “Nobody takes a loss,” Adhya explains, “when somebody takes a fish.”
32.What does the author want to explain about fishing cats in the first paragraph?
A.Why they moved to South and Southeast Asia. B.What helps them swim well in the water.
C.What pushes them to live with ducks. D.Why they love staying in the water.
33.What does the underlined word “ingenious” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Friendly. B.Picky. C.Clever. D.Lazy.
34.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The battle between fishing cats and humans. B.The decision to protect freshwater fish.
C.The importance of stopping pollution. D.The method of increasing wetlands.
35.What can we infer about the new method mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.It will do some harm to the environment. B.It will create a win-win situation.
C.It will increase food production. D.It will cost a lot of money.

There’s that old saying: How you do one thing is how you do everything. 36 , it shows in everything that you do, even when playing music.
I recently went to a concert with some other musicians in town (many of whom I was meeting for the first time). 37 , I spent more time in my head thinking about my drumming instead of actually paying attention to what was going on. This time though, I found that I was more attentive and was able to support the other musicians more through my playing.
38 . And I could feel the audience was enjoying the music more too, because the music was no longer about me, it was about all of us connecting through the universal language of music.
Afterwards, the musicians I played with told me they felt like our hearts were connected while playing, and that we were able to achieve a new level of playing together thanks to our collected approach. When playing, we didn’t consider how to show ourselves off. 39 .
I believe that the best musicians in the world have this in common; which is to see past their own values, and to listen to/connect with their audience and fellow musicians. I’ve realized all of this thanks to my practice of being a more compassionate and caring person.
So, I would like to thank everyone on this website for opening your hearts and showing me how to be a more caring person. 40 , but also through my music, and to those who listen.
A.When I used to connect with other musicians
B.Therefore, as you become more kind and sympathetic
C.Because of this, our music was better than ever before
D.There was just us sharing ourselves with our open hearts
E.I often find music moves me to be open and connect with others
F.There are languages that are universal, music and kindness are two of those languages
G.As I grow into a more kind and caring person, I can bring joy to not only those in my daily life

The paper on my desk was yellow, with straight blue lines stretching across it. The lines repeated themselves all the way down the page. I counted them. Twenty-six straight lines ran across the paper. The yellow color reminded me of sunshine. In summer, the sun is bright yellow like that, and sky is blue like those lines. I loved blue-blue is for getting lost in…
“You haven’t written a word yet, have you?” Miss Perry had found me out. I hung my head, as in past years, and gave her the lines I had given to previous teachers.
“I don’t feel like it.”
The truth was that I wanted to write about something different. “Write about Your Best Friend,” demanded the assignment on the board. I didn’t have a best friend. I had a few friends, but I didn’t want to claim any of them as my “best”, because I was afraid they might pick someone else. What if I picked a “best” friend and then someone different, who thought I was their best friend, heard my paragraph read aloud and never spoke to me again? It was a stupid topic. I was disappointed in Miss Perry for choosing it.
I knew Miss Perry must have heard about me from my other teachers. I had already prepared myself for another year of listening to teachers scold me. I was only nine years old, but my ears had been full to the voices of my elders. My teachers, my parents and the school principal had all given me the speech “What are we supposed to do with you?”. That was probably what Miss Perry was about to say, too.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
However, there was something different about Miss Perry.

In a colorful world of engines, there lived a tiny blue engine. It was small but it had big dreams! One day, the engines were entrusted (委派) with the most important task of the year: To deliver toys to children who live on the other side of the towering mountain. “It’s too hard. We can’t do it.” Said all the bigger engines. But the little engine believed in itself and set out on the mountain with effort.
根据第二段的“This character sailed through many adventures. Facing all the challenges, this character never gave up. Do you know why? Because it is understood that life is just an exciting journey that is full of surprises. And if you are brave enough, you will find lots of opportunities just waiting around the corner.(这个人物经历了许多冒险。面对所有的挑战,这个角色从不放弃。你知道为什么吗?因为我们明白,生活就是一段充满惊喜的激动人心的旅程。如果你足够勇敢,你会发现很多机会就在拐角处等着你)”可知,如果想让孩子有克服困难的勇气,可以像故事中的角色那样不放弃,这样孩子可以使孩子抓住很多机会,因此可以选择“Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”这个故事。故选A。
根据第四段的“One day, a wise octopus told the fish that we truly feel satisfied in life when we share our blessings with the less fortunate. The Rainbow Fish reflected on its own life and started sharing its scale with other fish. The Rainbow Fish made many friends that day.(有一天,一只聪明的章鱼告诉彩虹鱼,当我们与不幸的人分享我们的祝福时,我们才真正感到满足。彩虹鱼反思自己的生活,开始与其他鱼分享它的鳞片。那天彩虹鱼交了很多朋友。它发现了真正友谊的乐趣)”可知,章鱼所说的话让它反思了自己的行为并开始与别人分享,最后收获了很多的朋友。由此可知,是聪明的章鱼改变了彩虹鱼的想法。故选D。

【答案】24.C 25.A 26.B 27.B
根据文章第一段“On the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown. Everything about the school seemed so difficult.(在我新高中的第一天,我差点精神崩溃。学校的一切似乎都很难。)”和第二段“On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost. The school seemed like a puzzle that I couldn’t figure out. Was this how the whole year was going to be? I didn’t think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it!(第一天,我每节课都迟到,经常迷路。学校就像一个我无法解开的谜题。这一整年都是这样吗?我不认为我能接受这个挑战,尤其是背着一个我几乎举不起来的大背包。它太大了,我可以用它把人打晕!)”可推知,作者高中第一天感到害怕的主要原因是他不熟悉新环境。故选C。
25.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost. The school seemed like a puzzle that I couldn’t figure out.(第一天,我每节课都迟到,经常迷路。学校就像一个我无法解开的谜题。)”可知,作者上高中第一天每节课都迟到并且总是迷路,由此可推断出作者不知道去上课的正确的路。故选A。
根据文章第三段“Despite my fears, after the first week I finally had my schedule figured out. With the exception of falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad. It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging.(尽管我很害怕,但在第一周之后,我终于把我的日程安排好了。除了几次从楼梯上摔下来被人嘲笑之外,高中生活还算不错。它实际上比中学好得多,也更具挑战性。)”可知,作者逐渐适应了新学校。故选B。
27.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Most important of all, be who you are, whether you’re a “fool”, an athlete, or a lower grader. Don’t try to pretend to be someone you’re not. Now you know the secret of my success.(最重要的是,做你自己,不管你是一个“傻瓜”,一个运动员,还是一个低年级学生。不要试图假装成另一个人。现在你知道我成功的秘诀了。)”可知,作者认为不论你是什么样的人,最重要的是做你自己,不要试图假装。由此可知作者的成功在于做真实的自我。故选B。
根据第一段中“If we’re out of work, for example, and meet someone for the first time, we would tend to act differently if we believe he or she is a potential (潜在的) boss. We’d probably be more attentive, keep longer eye contact, choose our words a little more carefully, speak with increased confidence, and so on. With good friends, or perhaps those who don’t have high respect, our conduct would almost certainly be less respectful. Who the receiver is and, or rather, the status (地位) level that we attach to him or her, affects how we express ourselves.(例如,如果我们失业了,第一次见到某人,如果我们认为他或她是潜在的老板,我们往往会采取不同的行动。
根据第二段中“We feel more comfortable expressing laughter in the presence of close friends than near a scientist or a leader.(我们在亲密的朋友面前比在科学家或领导面前笑得更自在)”可知,我们和朋友在一起时笑得更自在,故选B。
根据第四段中“As social animals, we’re born with an ability to ‘read’ the status and the emotional state of others. This is true even when dealing with strangers. Most of the time their clues are nonverbal (非语言的), many being realized subconsciously (下意识地).(作为群居动物,我们生来就有‘读懂’他人地位和情绪状态的能力。即使在与陌生人打交道时也是如此。大多数时候,他们的线索是非语言的,许多是潜意识中意识到的)”可知,我通过读陌生人的肢体语言来了解他们的情绪状态,故选D。
31.推理判断题。根据全文内容,结合第一段中“However seemingly boring, the choices we make in social activities almost always depend on those with whom we’re dealing.(无论看起来多么无聊,我们在社交活动中做出的选择几乎总是取决于我们正在与之打交道的人)”可知,文章主要介绍了社交活动受地位的影响,应是出自一本关于社会科学的书籍,故选D。

【答案】32.B 33.C 34.A 35.B
根据文章第一段“The cry of the fishing cat sounds like the quack of a duck, and the rest of this midsize cat also enables it to hunt in the water. Its streamlined head is perfect for moves in the mangrove swamps (红树林沼泽地) and wetlands of South and Southeast Asia, and its pointy ears even fold (折叠) down when it jumps into deep water. The short and strong tail helps control its direction. The extra-thick coat keeps it warm and dry while swimming.(这只渔猫的叫声听起来像鸭子的嘎嘎声,这只中型猫的其余部分也使它能够在水中捕猎。
根据划线单词后的“Her research recently showed that the animal has two methods of catching fish. In deep waters, the cat stays still on the banks for hours before jumping into the water for the kill. In shallow (浅的) waters, though, the cat actively drives the fish out of their hiding places by moving about with heavy steps.(她最近的研究表明,这种动物有两种捕鱼方法。在深水中,这只猫会在岸边呆上几个小时,然后跳入水中进行杀戮。然而,在浅水区,猫会用沉重的步伐主动地把鱼赶出它们的藏身之处。)”可知,Tiasa Adhya的研究发现渔猫在面对深水和浅水时有两种不同的捕食方式,而且每一种都非常机智,所以,Adhya应该认为渔猫是“聪明的”。由此可知,划线单词ingenious的意思与“聪明的”意义相近。故选C项。
34.主旨大意题。根据文章第三段中的“Now the fishing cat is facing another challenge: humans. (现在,渔猫面临着另一个挑战:人类。)以及下文中的“These days, industrialized fish farming, pollution and other human behaviors have destroyed the living condition of freshwater fish and set fishing cats against farmers, as the hungry cats steal farmed fish, and the farmers get even with them (报复).(如今,工业化养鱼、污染和其他人类行为破坏了淡水鱼的生存条件,并使渔猫与农民对立起来,因为饥饿的渔猫偷走了养殖的鱼,而农民则报复了它们。)”可知,现在渔猫面临着人类的挑战,渔猫与人类之间对立起来,由此可知,这一段主要讲述了渔猫和人类之间的矛盾冲突。故选A项。
根据最后一段“The idea is that in healthy lakes where there is plenty to feed fishing cats and fishermen alike, killings will be unnecessary. “Nobody takes a loss,” Adhya explains, “when somebody takes a fish.”(他们的想法是,在健康的湖泊里,有足够的食物喂养渔猫和渔民,杀戮是不必要的。Adhya解释说:“当有人钓到一条鱼时,没有人会觉得损失。”)”可推知,研究人员想出是在健康的湖泊里,有足够的食物喂养渔猫和渔民,这样的新方法对渔民和渔猫都好,可以创造一个双赢的局面。故选B项。
第二节(共5小题:每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
G.As I grow into a more kind and caring person, I can bring joy to not only those in my daily life
【答案】36.B 37.A 38.C 39.D 40.G

36.前文提到“How you do one thing is how you do everything.”(你做一件事的感受就是你做所有事的感受),以及后文提到“it shows in everything that you do, even when playing music”(它体现在你做的每件事上,甚至在演奏音乐的时候)由此判断,前句应该是一个从句,可以表达为:当你富有善心和同情心,它会体现在你所做的事情上。B项“Therefore, as you become more kind and sympathetic”(因此,当你变得更加善良和富有同情心时)该项符合文意。故选B。
37.前文提到“I recently went to a concert with some other musicians in town”(我最近和城里的其他音乐家一起去听了一场音乐会),且从空后的“This time though, I found that I was more attentive and was able to support the other musicians more through my playing.”(但这一次,我发现自己更专注了,能够在演奏中更多地支持其他音乐家。) A项“When I used to connect with other musicians”(当我和和其他音乐家交流的时候),该项符合文意。故选A。
38.后文提到“And I could feel the audience was enjoying the music more too”(我能感觉到观众也更喜欢音乐了),此空讲述这次音乐会的效果。C项“Because of this, our music was better than ever before”(正因为如此,我们的音乐比以往任何时候都好),该项符合文意。故选C。
D项“There was just us sharing ourselves with our open hearts”(只有我们敞开心扉分享彼此),该项符合文意。故选D。
40.前文提到“So, I would like to thank everyone on this website for opening your hearts and showing me how to be a more caring person. ”(所以,我要感谢这个网站上的每一个人,感谢你们敞开心扉,告诉我如何成为一个更有爱心的人。),作者成为了一个更有爱心的人,且从空后的“but also through my music, and to those who listen.”(但也通过我的音乐,对那些听我音乐的人。) G项“As I grow into a more kind and caring person, I can bring joy to not only those in my daily life”(随着我成长为一个更加善良和有爱心的人,我不仅可以在日常生活中给别人带来快乐),该项符合文意。

1】Knowing that you are good at sports, I am writing to invite you to participate in the sports meeting to be held in our school on January 15th, next Friday.(运用了现在分词作状语,that引导宾语从句,不定式作状语和后置定语)
2】 When necessary, contact me at any time for further information.(运用了状语从句的省略)
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
However, there was something different about Miss Perry.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I bet I was touched.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
However, there was something different about Miss Perry. Instead of scolding me, which was often the case, Miss Perry, with a benevolent smile, said, “I bet you must have a better topic to write.” Never expecting that she would have dealt with me so mildly, I stared at her in total disbelief with eyes popping out. Then Miss Perry nodded in affirmation, indicating that she meant what she said. I somehow grabbed a pen and started my composition, and soon a world full of sunshine and blue sky came alive on my paper. When Miss Perry read through my work, her face seemed to be permeated with sunshine and blue sky. “Well done!” she announced and patted me on the back tenderly.
I bet I was touched. It was the first time that my work had been recognized and my body had been touched by a teacher. I knew the sunshine from Miss Perry had pierced through my hard shell and was beginning to melt the solid ice in my heart. Afterwards, I turned to get involved in activities of sorts more actively, take to studying more attentively and befriend people around more faithfully. Miss Perry, as well as others, was gratified to see all the changes in me, which I largely owed to a different Miss Perry.
①暗示:indicate/suggest/imply
②穿透:pierce through/penetrate through
③和……交朋友:befriend/make friends with
①微笑:smile/beam
②温和地:mildly/kindly/tenderly
【点睛】[高分句型1] Never expecting that she would have dealt with me so mildly, I stared at her in total disbelief with eyes popping out.
[高分句型2] When Miss Perry read through my work, her face seemed to be permeated with sunshine and blue sky.
[高分句型3] Miss Perry, as well as others, was gratified to see all the changes in me, which I largely owed to a different Miss Perry.
