No matter what you’re looking for, Orlando has a perfect place for every type of traveler. Here’s my list of the best places to stay in town.
The Alfond Inn
The Alfond Inn is a modern, 112-room hotel in the super-walkable heart of Winter Park. It’s a quiet, art-filled space that I think couldn’t be more suitable for honeymooners.
The hotel also has a heated outdoor pool and a great restaurant, Hamilton’s Kitchen, with a focus on local food.
The Ritz-Carlton
For luxury (奢华) and an escape from the noisy city, treat yourself to a stay at The Ritz-Carlton. Located on a peaceful 500-acre land with three indoor pools, a championship-level golf course, a 40,000-square-foot spa, a tennis club, and award-winning dining choices, I think this hotel has a true getaway experience.
The Park Plaza Hotel
Built in 1922, this 28-room hotel is on the walkable shop-and-restaurant-lined Park Avenue in Winter Park, just north of Orlando. Having an elegant lobby with European-inspired decorations and nice rooms with balconies (阳台), the Park Plaza Hotel is a popular honeymoon spot and a favorite for writers and other creative professionals like myself seeking peaceful working vacations.
The Wellborn
Near the Thornton Park neighborhood, The Wellborn, a 20-room hotel, is in Orlando’s oldest house which was built in 1883. Just a short walk from downtown’s Lake Eola, The Wellborn is near many local bars and restaurants, and it has a romantic environment with gardens and tree-lined brick streets.
1. Where is Hamilton’s Kitchen?
A. At The Wellborn.
B. At The Ritz-Carlton.
C. At the Alfond Inn.
D. At the Park Plaza Hotel.
2. What can people do at The Ritz-Carlton?
A. Swim outdoors.
B. Play ball games.
C. Enjoy bar drinks.
D. Do some shopping.
3. What do the Park Plaza Hotel and The Wellborn have in common?

When I was about twelve, I headed to a restaurant for dinner with my family. It was winter, and on that night, the wind was really blowing hard.
As my mom and I headed to the restaurant from our car, a girl about my age and her mother came up to us. They asked if we had any spare change. My mom right away asked where they lived. They pointed to an old car in a parking lot across the street. The girl said there were six of them living in that car.
My mom said she had something to do after handing the people a few dollars. She sent me inside the restaurant with my dad and my three siblings But she didn’t come. Later, I found out she had gone home and put all the food in our cupboards into a few bags. Then, she brought that food over to the car and handed the bags to the family. I wasn’t there when that happened, but I can only imagine the joy it brought to those people.
A few days later, when I actually found out about what she had done, I asked her why she helped those people. She told me that they were not lucky. I remember the face of that girl who had asked us for change. She was the same age as me, yet we looked so different.
Here I stood, dressed in almost new clothes, headed to eat in a restaurant and then back home to the bedroom I shared with my younger sister. I remember thinking that the other girl didn’t have any food to eat and she was heading back to a cold car shared with five other people.
After painting this picture in my mind, I understood why my mom had done what she did. I will never forget what she did that night, and how she taught me one of the best lessons I ever learned.

CAMBODIA—The “world’s loneliest elephant” has been resettled at a nature reserve (保护区) in the Oddar Meanchey Province after receiving some help from singer Cher recently.
Kaavan, a 36-year-old, 9,000-pound elephant, was given the nickname after he suffered from emotional and physical problems while living in a zoo in Pakistan for 35 years. During that time, Kaavan was mostly tied in his enclosure (圈用地), and when his partner died in 2012, her body lay next to him for several days before it was removed. Doctors said Kaavan was overweight, malnourished (营养不良的) and suffering from behavioral problems due to loneliness.
Cher, who has been advocating Kaavan’s resettlement, met with Pakistani Prime Minister on Friday and later visited Kaavan in the zoo. Kaavan was tested for COVID-19 before his seven-hour journey, during which 440 pounds of food were prepared. A doctor took care of him on the flight and worked with Four Paws, the animal rescue group that organized the move. He said Kaavan did not seem stressed and even slept during the flight. Very few elephants have been relocated by plane, according to Four Paws.
On Monday, Kaavan arrived in Cambodia and made his way north by truck to his new home. Once he feels settled, he will be set free from his enclosure and allowed to wander around the reserve, which houses about 600 Asian elephants. Experts say Kaavan will get a long term of psychological and physical treatment. Years of living in an enclosure with poor flooring has caused his nail to crack and overgrow and he has developed a habit of shaking his head back and forth for hours, which is believed to be out of boredom.
The elephant has lost half a ton since his diet was changed to fruit and vegetables. The zoo where he spent much of his life has been ordered to shut down.
8. What do we know about the elephant?
A. It had a weight problem.
B. It was kept free in the zoo.
C. It was all alone in his enclosure.
D. It lived in a reserve for 35 years.
9. According to the text, which of the following can best describe the move?
A. Dangerous. B. Uncomfortable. C. Well-organized. D. Wide-spread.
10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The introduction to his new home.
B. The further arrangements for Kaavan.
C. The cause of Kaavan’s health problems.
D. The medical treatment Kaavan will receive.
11. What is the text?
A. A news report.
B. A short story of an elephant.
C A research article.
D. An advertisement to a nature reserve.
A 9. C 10. B 11. A

A doctor took care of him on the flight and worked with Four Paws, the animal rescue group that organized the move.(一直主张重新安置卡万的雪儿周五会见了巴基斯坦总理,后来在动物园参观了卡万。
根据第四段中的“Once he feels settled, he will be set free from his enclosure and allowed to wander around the reserve, which houses about 600 Asian elephants. Research shows that in the United States a great number of teenagers who once enjoyed sports no longer participate in middle or high school sports team. These teenagers say it’s just not worth it. Why do promising athletes walk away from middle school or high school sports, and what should you do if your athlete decides not to play team sports?
Take Madeline for example. When she was living with her family in Texas a couple of years ago, Madeline joined her middle school’s track team. She was new to the sport, but she was fast. She worked hard, and she won medals. Then one day, Madeline fell and cracked a bone in her wrist. Her track season was over.
Her coaches were upset, but probably not in the way you’d expect. Rather than comforting their promising athlete suffering from a disappointing sports injury or encouraging her to return next season, they turned their back on her. “They shunned me for the rest of the year,” recalls Madeline, who has since moved to the East Coast. “I guess because I would no longer be winning them any medals.”
“Sports lost their appeal for me,” says Madeline. “I did end up trying out for the track team last year, but I actually found myself overwhelmed with memories and emotions from my experience the previous year and ended up dropping out.”
Talk to coaches, parents and teenagers about the downside of sports, and you’ll hear the same answer: by middle school and certainly by high school, it has more often than not become a game of medals. Not the plain old fun of playing. Not the extra benefits that sports offer. But winning.
12. What happened to Madeline?
A. She got injured in the leg.
B. She missed the track season.
C. She dropped out of the track team.
D. She fell behind others in her studies.
13. What does the word “shunned” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Stayed away from. B. Got on with.
C. Made an apology to. D. Put up with.
14. Which of the following can best describe her coaches’ reaction?
A. Discouraging. B. Comforting.
C. Understandable. D. Reasonable.
15. Why do many athletes quit team sports in middle or high school?
A. Medals no longer attract them.
B. Team sports are not exciting.
C. Injuries are more likely to happen.
D. Sports are more about winning.
C 13. A 14. A 15. D
根据倒数第二段“I did end up trying out for the track team last year, but I actually found myself overwhelmed with memories and emotions from my experience the previous year and ended up dropping out.”(去年我确实参加了田径队的比赛,但我发现自己被前一年经历中的记忆和情绪淹没,最终退出了田径队。)
根据第三段“Rather than comforting their promising athlete suffering from a disappointing sports injury or encouraging her to return next season, they turned their back on her.”(他们没有安慰那个因运动损伤而备受打击的有前途的运动员,也没有鼓励她下赛季重返赛场,而是背弃了她。) 故选A项。
根据第三段“Her coaches were upset, but probably not in the way you’d expect. Rather than comforting their promising athlete suffering from a disappointing sports injury or encouraging her to return next season, they turned their back on her.”(她教练很不高兴,但可能不是你想象的那样。 故选A项。
根据最后一段“by middle school and certainly by high school, it has more often than not become a game of medals. Not the plain old fun of playing. Not the extra benefits that sports offer. But winning.”(到了中学,当然还有高中,它往往已经成为一场奖牌游戏。而不是单纯的玩游戏的乐趣。不是体育运动带来的额外好处。只是胜利。)可知,到了中学或者高中,团队运动不再是单纯的乐趣或者带来好处,往往会变成奖牌游戏,只是关于胜利,所以许多运动员会在中学或者高中放弃团队运动。故选D项。

【16题详解】
根据文章结构可知,空处是一个过渡句,承上启下,根据空前“A trip is a planned destination where one arranges in advance in which the main purpose is to search for adventure and to create a memorable moment. (旅行是一个事先安排好的目的地,主要目的是寻找冒险和创造一个难忘的时刻。)”和下文黑体小标题可知,空处表示讲述如何让假期愉快;结合选项可知,选项E. Here are the steps on how to make sure your trip is enjoyable.( 以下是如何确保你的旅行愉快的步骤。)

I am very delighted to know that you want to start a club to carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture. Personally, I recommend a Chinese calligraphy club. And my reasons are as follows.
To start, in our nation, calligraphy has always been considered as one of the most significant arts, which will help foreigners to know more about Chinese culture. Second, unlike doing Taichi which needs a big space and specific costumes, practicing calligraphy can be easy to operate. All it asks is a table with the Four Treasures of the Study, which refer to brush, inkstick, paper and inkstone. Finally, practicing calligraphy is a good way to improve students’ perseverance, for it needs patience to practice.
In a word, starting a calligraphy club is definitely advantageous. And I highly recommend starting a calligraphy club.

A few days later when I actually found out about what she had done, I asked her why she helped those people.

On Monday Kaavan arrived in Cambodia and made his way north by truck to his new home.
C It was all alone in his enclosure.

Her coaches were upset but probably not in the way you’d expect.
