I’m Jenny Jackson. The weather here in Juárez has become unbearable. With no rains for over a year, the city is suffering from unusually hot weather. Some light showers have been forecast since last month, but all of them have been effective in surrounding areas. Summer has not even started yet, but temperatures have reached 40℃ in the past three days. And people have been warned not to go out of their homes—not if you walk on foot, at least—between 11 in the morning and 7 in the evening. Little kids and the elderly are the ones who have suffered the most from this extreme heat wave. They must drink water all the time. To help our audience have a better understanding of this extreme weather, we have invited Prof. Torres from University of Mexico to our studio this evening. A If you are looking for modern fairy tale, check out some of these stories written to appeal to today’s teen girls. The team of dogs arrived in the Philippines from Spain, and this Tuesday they were just beginning their work. Search officials told CNN they hope the recent rain will wash away the smell of rescue teams so the dogs can do their job more accurately. The dogs were brought in after sound equipment found sounds coming from deep inside the ruins, at a place where a school stood before the mudslide covered it. The sounds could mean people are still alive under all the mud or it could just be the earth resettling. On Monday rescue workers worked at the school site until three in the morning, trying to locate survivors, and they will begin digging again as soon as the dogs think they find someone. Human teams from the US, Malaysia, and Australia are all trying to help, too. But so far they have yet to locate any survivors. Rescue workers told CNN that an earlier report that 50 survivors had been found was false. How did all that mud bury the village in the first place? On Friday, 2,400-foot Mt Kanabag turned into a mudslide after two weeks of constant rain weakened it. The mountain crumbled and the mud fell onto the village Guinsaugon, burying the 1,800 people who lived there. Out of the 300 houses in the village, only 3 were not covered by the mud. The village is on a southern Philippine Island called Levte. Rescue efforts have been difficult because the village takes six hours to reach from the nearest airport. Hopefully, the dogs can help their human friends find survivors. 24. According to the search officials’ words in the first paragraph, we can learn that ________. A. the smell of rescue teams can disturb the dogs B. the dogs can follow the smell of rescue teams C. the dogs can’t smell the rescue teams D the dogs can tell the smells of buried people and rescue teams apart 25. The main purpose of this passage is probably ________. A. to show the way to rescue the victims in the ruins B. to introduce the instruments to save victims in a disaster C. to tell readers that dogs can smell out victims buried in the ruins D. to show how to train dogs to save victims in a mudslide 26. How many survivors have been found by the dogs? A. 50. B. Only a few. C. 1, 800. D. None. 27. The reason why the rescue work wasn’t going smoothly was probably that ________. A. the rain was heavy B. so many people were buried C. it was difficult to reach the village D. these is little chance to save the survivors 【答案】24. A 25. C 26. D 27. Search officials told CNN they hope the recent rain will wash away the smell of rescue teams so the dogs can do their job more accurately.(搜救官员告诉CNN,他们希望最近的降雨能够洗掉救援队身上的气味,这样狗狗们才能更准确地执行任务)可推知,求援队人员身上的气味会影响到狗的嗅觉。故选A。 Dogs may help save the day in the Philippines, as they use their noses to smell out survivors buried by Friday’s mudslide Hopefully, the dogs can help their human friends find survivors.(希望这些狗能帮助它们的人类朋友找到幸存者)可知,这篇文章主要想告诉读者,狗可以嗅出埋在废墟中的受害者。 Hopefully, the dogs can help their human friends find survivors.(希望这些狗能帮助它们的人类朋友找到幸存者)可推知,目前还没有发现幸存者。 The village is on a southern Philippine Island called Levte. Rescue efforts have been difficult because the village takes six hours to reach from the nearest airport.(这个村庄位于菲律宾南部一个叫做Levte的小岛上。 The reason why the rescue work wasn’t going smoothly was probably that ________. The village is on a southern Philippine Island called Levte. Rescue efforts have been difficult because the village takes six hours to reach from the nearest airport.(这个村庄位于菲律宾南部一个叫做Levte的小岛上。 C。 C In an effort to help out important insects like bees and butterflies, bus stops across the United Kingdom (UK) are getting living roofs. Small gardens on bus shelter roofs are being planted with flowers chosen to help support the struggling insects. The gardens provide much-needed islands of nature in a man-made environment of a city. Humans count on bees and other “pollinators (授粉者)” like butterflies to help grow plants, such as flowers and trees. But with humans taking over more and more land for cities, roads and farms, more natural areas have disappeared. The Wildlife Trusts, a group which works to protect wildlife in the UK, says that 97% of England’s wildflower fields have been lost since World War II and the insect numbers there have dropped by 50% since 1970. Bee bus stops are a small step toward supporting these important insects. The advertising company Clear Channel is working with The Wildlife Trusts and city governments to set up bee bus stops in cities across the UK. Bee bus stops are like ordinary bus shelters, but small gardens have been added to the roofs. The gardens are filled with flowers and plants chosen to attract bees and butterflies. The company plans to set up 1,000 bee bus stops in the UK. Clear Channel already has bee bus stop programs in several countries in Europe. In the Netherlands, the city of Utrecht has 300 bee bus stops. Research shows that these bus stops—along with many other steps taken to support pollinators—may be helping. After decades of dropping numbers, bee populations in the Netherlands seem to have become more stable over the last few years. The little gardens can also help to slightly lower city temperatures. Even though the bus shelter gardens are small, together they add up to a much larger area. Thirzah McSherry, who works for The Wildlife Trusts, says, “We’re living through a nature and climate crisis and we need to use every tool we’ve got to deal with it.” 28. Why are bee bus stop gardens being built in the UK? A. To beautify the city. B. To improve urban farming. C. To solve the environmental pollution. D. To provide shelters for pollinating insects. 29. What leads to the insect numbers dropping sharply in England? A. Losses of forests. B. Climate changes. C. Human activities. D. Natural disasters. 30. How does the author prove the effect of the bee bus stop programs? A. By analyzing the data. B. By making a comparison. C. By showing similar examples. D. By presenting its bright future. 31. What is the text mainly about? A. The urban environment is getting worse. B. The United Kingdom is building bee bus stops. C. City should build larger gardens for the insects. D. The bee bus stop is the best way to save the city. D 29. C 30. C 31. 根据文章首段内容,尤其是该段第一句“In an effort to help out important insects like bees and butterflies, bus stops across the United Kingdom (UK) are getting living roofs.”(为了帮助蜜蜂和蝴蝶等重要昆虫,英国各地的巴士站都在建造生机勃勃的屋顶)和该段最后一句“The gardens provide much-needed islands of nature in a man-made environment of a city.”(这些花园在城市的人造环境中提供了亟需的自然岛屿)可知,英国在巴士站的屋顶上建造小花园是为了帮助蜜蜂和蝴蝶等授粉昆虫生存下来,也就是为授粉昆虫提供庇护所。 根据文章第四段中的“In the Netherlands, the city of Utrecht has 300 bee bus stops. Research shows that these bus stops—along with many other steps taken to support pollinators—may be helping. After decades of dropping numbers, bee populations in the Netherlands seem to have become more stable over the last few years.”(在荷兰,乌得勒支市有300个蜜蜂巴士站。 通读全文,尤其是文章首段以及第三段的“The advertising company Clear Channel is working with The Wildlife Trusts and city governments to set up bee bus stops in cities across the UK.”(广告公司Clear Channel正与野生动物基金会和市政府合作,在英国各城市设立蜜蜂巴士站)和“The company plans to set up 1,000 bee bus stops in the UK.”(该公司计划在英国建立1000个蜜蜂巴士站)可知,本文主要介绍了英国正在建造大量的蜜蜂巴士站。故选B。 D When another old cave is discovered in the south of France, it is not usually news. Rather, it is an ordinary event. Such discoveries are so frequent these days that hardly anybody pays heed to them. However, when the Lascaux cave complex (群) was discovered in 1940, the world was amazed. Painted directly on its walls were hundreds of scenes showing how people lived thousands of years ago. The scenes show people hunting animals, such as wild cats or dogs. Other images, picture birds and, most noticeably, horses which appear in more than 300 wall images by far outnumbering all other animals. Early artists drawing these animals finished a meaningful and difficult task. They did not limit themselves to the easily accessible walls but carried their painting materials to spaces that required climbing high walls or going into narrow passages in the Lascaux cave complex. Unfortunately, the paintings have been exposed (暴露) to the harmful action of water and temperature changes, which easily wear the images away. Because the Lascaux caves have many entrances, air movement has also damaged the images inside. Although they are not out in the open air, where natural light would have destroyed them long ago, many of the images are in bad condition and are hardly recognizable. To prevent further damage, the place was closed to tourists in 1963, 23 years after it was discovered. 32. What does the underlined phrase “pays heed to” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Discovers. B. Watches. C. Notices. D. Affects. 33. What made the Lascaux cave complex stand out from other caves? A. Wall paintings. B. Animal remains. C. People who once lived there. D. The size of the cave complex. 34. Why was painting inside the Lascaux cave complex a difficult task? A. It was completely dark inside. B. The caves were full of wild animals. C. Painting materials were hard to find. D. Many painting spaces were difficult to reach. 35. What can be learned from the last paragraph? A. The place was found 23 years ago. B. Protection of the place was strengthened. C. Sunlight damaged many of the images. D. No people were allowed to enter the place. C 33. A 34. D 35. 根据第一段“When another old cave is discovered in the south of France, it is not usually news.Rather, it is an ordinary event. Such discoveries are so frequent these days that hardly anybody pays heed to them. (当在法国南部发现另一个古老的洞穴时,这通常不是新闻。相反,这是一个普通的事件。如今,这样的发现是如此频繁,以至于几乎没有人 pays heed到它们。)”可推知,发现岩洞是件平常的事情,应该是几乎没有人会留意这些发现。故notice与pay heed意思最相近,表示“注意到”。故选C。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Such discoveries are so frequent these days that hardly anybody pays heed to them. However, when the Lascaux cave complex (群) was discovered in 1940, the world was amazed.(如今,这样的发现是如此频繁,以至于几乎没有人注意到它们。然而,当1940年拉斯科洞穴群被发现时,全世界都惊呆了)”以及“Painted directly on its walls were hundreds of scenes showing how people lived thousands of years ago.(直接画在墙上的是数百幅描绘几千年前人们生活的场景)”可知,引起人们惊讶的是洞穴里的壁画。故选A。 根据第二段“They did not limit themselves to the easily accessible walls but carried their painting materials to spaces that required climbing high walls or going into narrow passages in the Lascaux cave complex.(他们没有把自己限制在容易接近的墙壁上,而是把他们的绘画材料带到需要爬上高墙或进入拉斯科洞穴群狭窄通道的空间)”可知,找到合适的绘画位置需要爬高墙或进入狭小的通道里,这使绘画变得困难。 根据最后一段“To prevent further damage, the place was closed to tourists in 1963, 23 years after it was discovered.(为了防止进一步的破坏,这个地方在被发现23年后的1963年对游客关闭了)”可推知,对此地的保护加强了。 Do you have a spare room in your house? And there is another problem. D. And his great idea has proved a success. E. But the new business of renting has its competitors. F. There are many ways to earn money. G. A commercial car park is inconvenient. B 37. A 38. D 39. E 40. 【36题详解】 上文“Do you have a spare room in your house? Do you like to share your driveway in front of your garage with others? (你家里有空余的房间吗?你喜欢与他人分享车库前的车道吗?)”提出两个问题,并介绍两种挣钱的方式。下文“Many people are benefiting from this new business of renting. (很多人都通过这种新的出租生意获益了)”说明出租生意可以获利。B项“Both of these can help you make money. (这两者都可以帮你赚钱)”承上启下,故选B。 【37题详解】 上文“Perhaps the best-known example of a company in this field is Airbnb—an American web business which allows you to rent out your spare room to holidaymakers. It says it operates in 34,000 cities and it has 800,000 listings of rooms and apartments. (也许这个领域最著名的例子是爱彼迎公司,它是一家美国网络公司,允许你将空余房间出租给度假者。它表示,它在34000个城市开展业务,拥有80万间客房和公寓房源)”说明爱彼迎在租房方面很出名。A项“They seem to have occupied the majority of the market. It was all because of my friend Henry. Born into a poor family, Henry had no chance to attend school. He couldn’t read but he liked my reading for him greatly. One day I played a little trick on Henry. I was reading him a story from my textbook. Suddenly I moved away from the story and made up my own, pretending to turn pages regularly. Henry, of course, had no idea at all. Upon finishing the story, Henry began to clap. “That was the best story you’ve read me in a long time,” he said, still clapping. I laughed. “Really?” “It was great. Will you read me more of it tomorrow?” “Fascinating,” I thought, feeling like a man who discovered a buried treasure in his own backyard. That same night, I tried writing my first short story. It was a story about a man who found a magic cup. If he cried into the cup, his tears turned into pearls (珍珠), but he was a happy man and rarely cried. So he managed to find ways to make himself sad. The story ended with the man sitting on a mountain of pearls, unable to feel happy any longer. The next day, I ran to Henry after school, asking him to hear the story and told him I wrote it last night. Henry was totally absorbed in it, his face shifting as the story developed. “Some day, you will be a great writer,” Henry said. “And your stories will be read all over the world. But can I ask a question? Why didn’t the man just eat some onions to make himself cry to get pearls?” I was shocked because I never expected Henry could be helpful to my writing. I rewrote it and with Henry’s encouragement, I sent it to a magazine. To my surprise, it was published and sold well. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Whenever I finished a new story, I would turn to Henry. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I decided to use the money to help Henry. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Whenever I finished a new story, I would turn to Henry. Gradually, I found Henry was really an excellent listener as well as a good adviser. Although he couldn’t read, he had a clear mind and a gift for polishing stories by asking questions. Every time I shared my new stories to him, he always listened attentively and provided valuable suggestions. I never thought my reading to Henry could arouse his talent for stories, which contributed to an unexpected cooperation. Later, several more stories were published and I was well paid. I decided to use the money to help Henry. However, I didn’t know what Henry wanted most. When he touched the pages dearly on which my stories were printed, it occurred to me that Henry should have the privilege to enjoy the beauty of words too. Therefore, I chose to sponsor his education. Learning what I had done for him, Henry was too moved to say anything but was overjoyed to be my schoolmates. He even joked that he could get pearls, being the happiest man in the world. 3. 词汇激活 行为类 ①发现:find/spot ②询问:ask/enquire ③有助于:contribute to/be conducive to 情绪类 ①感动的:moved/touched ②欣喜若狂的:overjoyed/delighted 【点睛】[高分句型1] I never thought my reading to Henry could arouse his talent for stories, which contributed to an unexpected cooperation. On Monday, rescue workers worked at the school site until three in the morning, trying to locate survivors, and they will begin digging again as soon as the dogs think they find someone. A. the smell of rescue teams can disturb the dogs B. the dogs can follow the smell of rescue teams C. the dogs can’t smell the rescue teams D. the dogs can tell the smells of buried people and rescue teams apart 25. A. the rain was heavy B. so many people were buried C. it was difficult to reach the village D. these is little chance to save the survivors C In an effort to help out important insects like bees and butterflies, bus stops across the United Kingdom (UK) are getting living roofs. A The place was found 23 years ago. B. Protection of the place was strengthened. C. Sunlight damaged many of the images. D. No people were allowed to enter the place. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Do you have a spare room in your house? It was all because of my friend Henry. Born into a poor family, Henry had no chance to attend school. He couldn’t read but he liked my reading for him greatly. One day I played a little trick on Henry. I was reading him a story from my textbook. Suddenly I moved away from the story and made up my own, pretending to turn pages regularly. Henry, of course, had no idea at all. Upon finishing the story, Henry began to clap. “That was the best story you’ve read me in a long time,” he said, still clapping. I laughed. “Really?” “It was great Will you read me more of it tomorrow?” “Fascinating,” I thought, feeling like a man who discovered a buried treasure in his own backyard. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
