(2024·河北承德·二模)Do you remember a time when people were a little nicer, a little softer with each other? I certainly do, and I feel that much of the world has got away from that. I see such a difference in New York City, for example, from the time I first moved here more than 20 years ago: people now rush into lifts without giving those inside a chance to get off first, never say “thank you” when others hold a door open for them, or “please” when they want a classmate to hand them something. We get lazy, and we think that something like a simple “thank you” doesn’t really matter. But in fact it can matter much. It is that no matter how nicely we dress, how beautifully we decorate our homes, or how lovely our dinner parties are, we can’t be really stylish (漂亮的) without good manners. In fact, I think of good manners as a kind of hidden beauty. Haven’t you noticed that the kindest, most generous people seem to keep getting more beautiful? They become Cary Grant or Lauren Bacall right before our eyes. It’s funny how that happens, but it does. Take the long-lost art of saying “thank you” for example. Like wearing a little lipstick (口红) or making sure your hair is neat (整洁的), getting into the habit of saying “thank you” can make you feel better about yourself, and then you will look better to everyone around you. 11.The writer found that people in New York City were ________ 20 years ago. A.much more beautiful B.not polite to each other C.too lazy to do any work D.very polite to each other 12.The writer thinks that ________. A.good manners are still with us B.a simple “think you” doesn’t matter much C.good manners are a kind of beauty D.without good manners one will be lazy 13.According to the second paragraph, we can guess that Cary Grant must be ________. A.really stylish B.very lazy C.quite funny D.rather foolish 14.From the passage, we know that saying “thank you” is a kind of ________. A.art B.fun C.secret D.generosity (慷慨) 15.The main idea of the last paragraph is ________. A.we should get on well with everyone around B.one should make it a habit to be polite to others C.to make ourselves look beautiful or nice is very important D.wearing lipstick or making hair neat can make you feel better (2024·河北邯郸·三模)These days, we easily feel stressed as we need to do lots of work every day. It’s important to know how to solve problems and find ways to relax. We should try organizing our problems from most important to least important as well as most urgent (紧急的) to least urgent. If some problems are both important and urgent, such as studying for a next-day test, do those tasks first. Once those are done, work on things that are important but not urgent, such as preparing for the final exams. From there, we can work on problems that are less important. Organizing our work this way helps a lot in knowing what to do first and not worrying about the rest. Sometimes we feel stressed because we are not able to complete the task by ourselves. It’s better to ask someone for help. If we stick to doing these tasks ourselves, it can make us more stressed and upset. Open your mouth bravely, and someone must give you a hand. Still, sometimes we don’t feel relaxed even after organizing our work well. That’s okay. We can try to plan some exercise in our daily life. It doesn’t even have to be a big trip to the gym, although that surely helps. It could be something as small as walking around the neighborhood for 10 minutes. Also, we can try different activities together with our family members or friends. We can try meditation (冥想). Again, this does not need to be anything special. Just set aside 10to 20 minutes with a timer, sit upright, close your eyes, and focus only on breathing. If other ideas come up, accept that they are there and let them fall away on their own. By trying these steps, we will go a long way toward feeling relaxed and peaceful when finishing all of the work. 16.In which order should we organize our tasks? a. Both important and urgent tasks.          b. Less important tasks. c. Important but not urgent tasks.           d. Neither important nor urgent tasks. A.a→b→c→d B.a→c→b→d C.d→c→b→a D.d→b→c→a 17.What does Paragraph 3 tell us? A.Always complete the tasks by ourselves. B.We can tell the truth to other people. C.Try to give a helping hand to others. D.We should ask for help sometimes. 18.What does the writer advise us to do to relax in Paragraph 4? A.Go on a big trip. B.Take a walk around. C.Spend time organizing our work well. D.Do the same activity every day. 19.What should we do when other ideas come up during meditation? A.Lie down and set a timer. B.Try to breathe gently. C.Just leave them alone. D.Open and then close our eyes. 20.Which can be a proper title for the text? Once he made fun of a classmate about a poor mark on a math test. “It turned out I got a hundred on the test, and he didn’t do so well,” Rick said. Then one day, his good friend Holly pulled Rick aside. She said to him, “You know sometimes you really hurt people’s feelings.” Rick always saw himself as someone. who made his friends laugh. He couldn’t imagine that he might hurt them. “But I kept thinking about Holly’s words, and I kept turning them over in my mind,” he said. “Finally, I realized that she was right. I started paying attention to how my humor was hurting other people, and I changed it.” It didn’t happen overnight. But over the years, Rick began to be careful about his words. (2024·河北邢台·三模)Are you good at learning English grammar? What do you think about learning grammar when studying a foreign language? I was a young English teacher in a middle school. One day, a student asked, “Mr. Lewis, what is the difference between a period (句号) and a comma (逗号)?” I hated these grammar rules and hardly understand them myself. As I looked at the textbook, I knew that even if I told this student all the different rules about commas, he wouldn’t remember them. I was also in no mood (心情) for a long lesson. My mum had died just a few short weeks ago. I missed her so much. All I wanted to do was stay in bed, but my own young family was living a difficult life and I knew I had to take every day of work I could. I looked at the textbook again but couldn’t read it because my eyes were so watery. All at once, however, I got an idea. “A period is the end of a sentence or a thought,” I said, “A comma, on the other hand, is just a short pause (停顿) before the sentence continues on.” When I finished saying this, my heart suddenly felt lighter. I smiled and thought of my mum continuing on in a place much brighter and happier than the one I was in now. That little moment of light helped me as I continued to miss my mum over the months and years to come. Recently I remembered it once again when I saw this sentence in a book I was reading: “Death is not a period, only a comma.” Our lives are a sentence and a story that goes on forever. Our time here is only a part of it. 36.What does the writer think about English grammar? A.Very easy. B.Meaningless. C.Interesting. D.Difficult to understand. 37.Why didn’t the writer want to teach a long lesson that day? A.Because he didn’t like teaching grammar. B.Because he hadn’t read the textbook. C.Because he was sad about his mum’s death. D.Because his family lived a difficult life. 38.What did the writer describe a comma as? A.A short pause. B.The end of a thought. C.The end of a sentence. D.A new life. 39.Which sentence can express the writer’s view of point? A.Grammar is not very useful. B.The end may be just a pause. C.A period is the same as a comma. D.Life is short, but time is forever. (2024·河北邢台·三模)This week, our city is having an Art Festival! It’s a really fun and colorful event where we can all enjoy different kinds of art. (2024·河北邢台·三模) JUST ASK I’m Patrick, but you can call me Pat. This is the space where I can help you with your daily life problems, one-on-one. Go ahead and ask away! Q Dear Patrick, My roommate, Jenny, doesn’t wash her clothes much and they smelled. I don’t know how to talk to her. What should I do? Lily A Hi, Lily, Problems like these are normal when people are living with roommates. I’ve lived with roommates before. If there is a problem, I make sure to speak up about it and not let the problem get worse. As the famous saying goes, “The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now.” The same goes for good communication. You can find a good time to talk about it, like in the afternoon after classes. When you talk with her, try not to be angry about it. You can use a “compliment sandwich”, something like, “You’ve been a good roommate so far, however I can’t help but notice the smell coming from your clothes. Could you please make sure to wash them?” Again, it’s far better to be honest and easy-going. Don’t pretend the problem will go away. Patrick 43.What kind of person do you think Jenny is? A.Tidy girl. B.Clean girl. C.Lazy girl. D.Hard-working girl. 44.Which sentence is close to the underlined saying? A.Money can’t buy time. B.Better late than never. C.Rome was not built in a day. D.Failure is the mother of success. 45.How to understand the meaning of “compliment sandwich”? A.When giving advice, hide your anger and true thoughts. B.Give the other person a sandwich before communicating. C.Provide at least three suggestions when solving problems. D.Put one suggestion between two praises when giving advice. (2024·河北石家庄·二模)African elephants can now be counted from space, using high resolution images (高清图像). The researchers say the new technology can be used to protect the animals better. The researchers used satellites (卫星) 372 miles above the earth to take some of the highest resolution images. They then made a computer program that could identify (识别) elephants within the images (图像). Dr. Olga Isupova, from the University of Bath, told the BBC, “We could train the machine to see small details that we wouldn’t be able to pick up with our eyes.” Usual ways of counting elephants are to fly above them in the planes or get humans to count the animals on satellite images. This can be difficult, because elephants are hard to be seen when they are among trees or tall grass. It takes a long time and mistakes can be made. The new technology means elephants can be counted more correctly and the work is much faster. The computers can do the same amount of counting in a few hours by the new technology instead of (代替) humans’ monthly work. Clouds still are a challenge, because they can block (遮挡) the satellites’ view. Luckily though, most places where the elephants live do not have much cloud. The researchers say the new technology can help to save elephant populations from being hunted (捕猎), because it is easier to find where the elephants are and so plans can be made to protect them. 46.What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.The elephants. B.The images. C.The satellites. D.The researchers. 47.How does the writer organize Paragraph 3? A.By giving examples. B.By comparing facts. C.By listing numbers. D.By telling stories. 48.Which one of the following is true about the new technology? A.It will miss the elephants among trees. B.It collects images taken from planes. C.It takes less time to do the counting. D.Clouds are not a problem for it at all. (2024·河北廊坊·二模)Are you the type of person who always says “yes”? Are you brave enough to say NO? It’s okay to say NO and people are still going to like you. They may even respect (尊敬) you more because they know you are honest. I’m not saying to say “no” to someone who really needs your help. I’m talking about turning down that meeting that you really do not want to attend or that birthday party that you don’t want to be a guest at. Think for a moment how you feel when you say YES to something that you really don’t want to do. If you are like I once was, you can’t sleep at night and you think about it too much. It weighs on your mind. Whatever you are saying to yourself, if you really wanted to go, you wouldn’t have all of these thoughts. So, why not just say NO from the beginning? Maybe you feel like if you don’t show up at the meeting (by the way, it is not one you must attend), your boss isn’t going to like you or your coworkers won’t respect you. Maybe you feel as if your mom, dad or sisters won’t love you as much as before if you don’t do everything for them that they ask every occasion. If these people are your true friends, family members, or a good boss, they will like or love you the same no matter what. People treat you the way you teach them to, and if you’re someone who always says “yes”, then that’s what they are expecting. You need to do what is right for you. Of course we do have real obligations (义务) in life to fulfill, but we do not have to do everything others want us to do. 49.Why are two questions raised at the very beginning of the passage? A.To ask for answers. B.To give a real example. C.To lead into the topic. D.To express the writer’s opinions. 50.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to? A.Something you think difficult to do. B.Saying “yes”. C.A friend’s birthday party. D.Something you are unwilling to do. 51.In the writer’s opinion, what will happen if you say NO to others? A.Your boss won’t like you. B.Your workmates won’t respect you. C.Your relatives won’t love you. D.Maybe people will respect you more. 52.According to the text, when should you say “No” to others’ requests? A.Your mom asks you to walk the dog after dinner on weekends. B.Your friend asks you to help with homework when you are free. C.Your aunt invites you for dinner when you need to prepare for an exam. D.Your teacher wants you to attend a competition which suits you the best. 53.What would be the best title for the passage? A.Learn to Say No. B.Learn to Make a Right Choice. C.Be Yourself. D.Do What You Want to Do. (2024·河北廊坊·二模)①That future is almost here. “I think it’s going to happen. Definitely in ten years…and hopefully much, much faster,” said Sebastian Thrun in 2021. At that time, his young company Kitty Hawk Corporation was working on developing a flying car known as eVTOL, or Electronic Vertical (垂直的) Take-Off and Landing vehicle (车辆). ②Flying to work or school sounds unbelievable. Not only is it fun to fly, but “there would never be traffic again, because the sky is very, very large,” says Thrun. He also thinks eVTOLs could be greener than common cars. “We go much faster, we go in a straight line, we fly on less energy,” he says. ③So far, though, flying cars haven’t taken off as a product. Will their day come? There are still many problems to solve. Their high price means most people won’t be able to afford one. So, some companies are developing them as air taxis that people could pay to ride. The main problem with flying cars is safety. Accidents in the air are dangerous to both the passengers and anyone on the ground beneath. To make eVTOLs safer, many developers are aiming to make them self-flying—no human pilot required. ④Another problem is space. Most aircraft need long runways to take off and land. Lifting straight up and down like a helicopter (直升机) solves this problem. But eVTOLs still need special spaces, called vertiports, for take-off and landing. Finding places to put these could be difficult, especially in crowded cities. But maybe some could go on top of buildings. ⑤What do you think? Would you enjoy riding to school or to visit a friend in a self-flying taxi? Are flying cars a good idea, or should we find other ways to get around in the near future? 54.What is Sebastian Thrun’s opinion about the future of flying cars? A.He believes it will happen in ten years and faster. B.He thinks it will never happen. C.He thinks it will happen in the next century. D.He is not sure about the future of flying cars. 55.Why are some companies developing flying cars as air taxis? A.To compete with common cars. B.To solve safety problems. C.To make them cheaper. D.To provide rides for people. 56.What is the possible structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. 57.What is probably the best title of the passage? A.The History of Air Travel Technologies. B.Is a Flying Car Your Dream Car? C.The Exciting World of Electric Taxis. D.Will Future Flying Cars Need Drivers? (2024·河北廊坊·二模) Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He has climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure in South America, covering 7,800 miles. He was even named “Adventure of the Year” by a famous geography magazine in 2018. Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn’t feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?” Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples (样本) from the places far away to do research. But scientists can’t get there themselves as such places are hard to reach—only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it. Recently Jerry and his adventure friends have discovered a special plant life of Mountain Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists to know how plants live in extreme (极端的) conditions. For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures had made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn’t important for me. What matters is doing something helpful while climbing the mountains. There is still much more we can do.” Jerry said to a newspaper. 58.What is paragraph 1 mainly about? A.A geography magazine. B.High mountains. C.Jerry’s friends. D.Jerry’s achievements. 59.What does the underlined word “fulfilled” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Satisfied. B.Worried. C.Lonely. D.Patient. 60.Why did Jerry set a team of top adventurers? A.To train scientists. B.To make friends. C.To help scientists. D.To study plants. (2024·河北廊坊·二模)Good news! (2024·河北石家庄·模拟预测)There are two paths (路) in life, Should and Must. We arrive at these crossroads again and again. And each time, we have to choose. Should is how others want us to show up in the world—what we should or shouldn’t do. When we choose Should, we’re choosing to live our life for someone or something other than ourselves. The journey to Should can be smooth, and the risk is small. Must is who we are, what we believe, and what we do when we are alone with our truest self. Must is why Van Gogh (梵高) painted his whole life without ever getting people’s recognition. Must is why Reyna Marder Gentin started to write for the first time after 23 years of being a lawyer. Choosing Must sounds·fantastic, right? To choose Must is to say yes to hard work and endless effort, to say yes to a journey without a road map or tour guides. How can we actually choose Must? Ask yourself, “What is my Must?” If you don’t know the answer, write down your biggest, most impossible dreams! Don’t worry! It’s just the first step. Now, think about what’s actually in your way. Is it your parents? Maybe they’re just worried that you haven’t thought it through. Try to make a practical plan for what you want to do. Your parents may find it a good one. Is it money? Well, the best way to make money is to do what you love because it’s very likely that you will pay great attention to it. Choosing Must doesn’t mean we need to give up everything we already have. It’s about changing one small thing at a time. If you believe that you have something special inside of you, it’s about time you give Must a try today. 64.What happens if we choose the path of “Should”? A.We don’t need to take great risks. B.We have to give up what we have. C.We’ll have a clear picture of others. D.We have to live our life for ourselves. 65.Which of the following is suitable for the journey to Must? A.Smooth and exciting. B.Hard and challenging. C.Impossible and foolish. D.Easy and educational. 66.Which word is close to the underlined word “recognition”? A.understanding B.laughing C.remembering D.discussing 67.Why do you think the writer wrote this passage? A.To take others’ advice. B.To encourage us to be our truest self. C.To tell us something about his choice. D.To tell us to do what others want us to do. 68.Which can be the best title for the text? A.Give Should a Try B.Take the Smooth Journey C.Give Must a Try D.Write Down the Dreams (2024·河北石家庄·模拟预测)As is known to all, early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. We all need to sleep well, though the sleeping hours are different from person to person. Doctors do not know why we need sleep, but they all agree that sleep is very important to us. Without enough sleep, the body may be weak. One-third of adults have sleeplessness. There are over 80 kinds of sleep-related disorders (失调). If you have sleeplessness, here are a few suggestions. 1.Make a timetable, and stick to it. We need to sleep at regular times. If your bedtime and wake-up time change from day to day or on weekends, your sleep rhythms (节奏) aren’t predicted and the body doesn’t know how to act. So it’s important to have a regular. wake-up time, even on weekends, vacations or after a night of poor sleep. 2.Don’t lie in bed awake. “The best sleep tip you can give somebody is to get up—don’t lie in bed awake,” sleep expert Grandner said. “Whether. it’s the beginning of the night or the middle of the night, if you’ve been awake for 20 or 30 minutes, get up and reset (重新调整). Maybe you just need five minutes to get sleepy, or maybe an hour, but don’t spend that time awake in bed.” 3. Change your thinking about sleep. “Many people regard sleeping as the final thing they have to do for daily activities. They would like to work or watch TV very late rather than sleep on time. That thinking needs to be changed.” Grandner said. “Don’t see your sleep as the time you have left in your day,” he advised. “See your sleep as the time you need in order to prepare yourself for an energetic (精力充沛的) tomorrow.” “It may sound like a small change in thinking, but it’s an important one.” Grandner added. 69.How does the writer begin the text? A.By showing a saying. B.By asking a question. C.By giving suggestions. D.By sending a message. 70.What does the first suggestion tell us? A.It’s not necessary to sleep regularly. B.It’s not necessary to wake up regularly. C.We should try to sleep and wake up regularly every day. D.We need to sleep and wake up regularly only on weekdays. 71.What should you do if you’ve been awake for 25 minutes at night according to Grandner? A.Watch TV. B.Get up and reset. C.Drink some hot tea. D.Close your eyes and lie on the bed. 72.What is the writer trying to do in the text? A.Tell us not to lie in bed awake. B.Introduce sleep expert Grandner. C.Advise us to have a sleep on time. D.Let us know how to sleep well. (2024·河北石家庄·模拟预测)My brother and I were driving home together and started talking. Because of this distraction (分心), my brother took a wrong turn. Unfortunately, the wrong turn took us toward a bridge, and we had no way of turning back. My brother had to pay to cross the bridge: He was clearly upset by the mistake. As we drove forward, my brother noticed that a car pulled over to the side of the road. A young guy was standing nearby trying to phone someone. I was busy trying to find out which way we went next but my brother pulled over and asked the guy if he needed any help. And he did. He had a flat tire (车胎瘪了). My brother helped him change the tire. He said that this had been a bad week for him and earlier he had gotten into a car accident, and now this flat on his way home from work. But he called us “a breath of fresh air” and kept thanking us. After we finished the job, he thanked us again and pulled out $20 and tried to give it to us. “No,” my brother said. “We were never supposed to even get on that bridge. We took a wrong turn. But now we know why we did. It was to help you. Thank you for turning our mistake into an opportunity to serve.” What I loved most was watching my brother throughout this process. He was able to turn his bad mood (心情) over the mistake into positive (积极的) energy. He was able to see a chance to help (which I totally missed!) even in a bad situation. That was the bridge we were meant to cross. 73.How did the writer’s brother feel when they took a wrong turn at first? A.Calm. B.Unhappy. C.Scared. D.Excited. 74.What’s the right order according to the passage? ①The man tried to give us $20 to thank us. ②My brother helped the guy change the tire. ③My brother drove in the wrong direction. ④We saw a car pulled over on the road. He was able to see a chance to help (which I totally missed!) even in a bad situation.”
