Boston University was always my dream, but when it came to making the decision,I had to be sure that I was confident in my choice. Boston University drew me in for several reasons—its perfect location in the heart of Boston, its strong education programs, and the comfortable community. One special thing that set Boston University apart from my other college options was that I could be placed in the classroom to experience teaching in my freshman year. I had wanted to be a teacher for as long as I could remember, after all.
After just six short weeks,I was absolutely confident that I made the right choice to attend Boston University. At Boston University,I attended an education program—ED 100. Each Wednesday,I went to Bowman Elementary School to help in a fifth grade classroom.
Although I was a secondary education major, working with fifth graders was very memorable. One of my weekly tasks was to lead a reading group of about five students. It was tiring, but I fully enjoyed getting to know their strengths (长处) and a little bit about each student apart from their studies.
As the weeks went on,I found myself further involved in (参与) more classroom activities, often helping students one by one or in small groups. The students never stopped amazing me—they were always ready to take part in class activities and share their ideas. For each class,I usually spent a long time preparing it. I also loved learning from other teachers, and taking note of their excellent teaching skills, some of which I hoped to use in my own classroom.
The program—ED 100 has even further confirmed (确认) my desire to become an educator. I have passion to work with children. I can’t wait to have my own classroom of students. I’m so happy that I’ve made the right decision to choose Boston University.

Animal and plant species are disappearing at frightening rates. The problem has led to efforts to “rewild” places where such life existed before human development, pollution and climate change forced it out. The American city of Detroit is an example of how human actions can increase rewilding, which generally means helping natural systems in damaged locations, removing dams or building tunnels to reconnect animal pathways cut by roads.
Detroit’s population reached a high of 1.8 million in the 1950s. Then the population began dropping. By 2000, there were fewer than one million people living in the city. Thousands of houses and other buildings were left empty over the years. Some structures were destroyed, leaving empty areas that plants and animals regained as habitats. Nonprofit groups have also planted trees and community gardens in these areas. Anti-pollution laws and government-supported cleanups made nearby rivers better for fish and native plants.
Now, Detroit is home to 300 bird species and is a busy visiting place for ducks and others during migration. Unlike most big cities, its population is decreasing but its streets and buildings remain in place. And there are many kinds of habitats, including large lakes, rivers and human neighborhoods. Detroit’s parklands are so quiet that people don’t even know they’re in the city.
“It used to be that you had to go to some remote location to get exposure to nature,” said JohnHartig, a professor of University of Windsor. “Now that’s not the case. Like it or not, rewilding will occur. The question is how we can prepare communities and environments to embrace the presence of more and more wildlife. After all, many city people have lost their tolerance to live with wildlife. To really make a difference in dealing with the biodiversity crisis, you’re going to have to have people on board.”
8. What does the author want to tell us by the example of Detroit?
A. It’s government-supported efforts that really matter.
B. Humans’ efforts can make a difference in rewilding.
C. Humans are to blame for the worsening environment.
D. It’s hard for humans and wildlife to live in harmony.
9. What might have happened in Detroit at the beginning of 21st century?
A. The city was overpopulated. B. More community gardens disappeared.
C. Many buildings were abandoned. D. The environment was badly damaged.
10. What can we infer about current Detroit from the text?
A. It is a big city crowded with tourists and bird species.
B. Tourists don’t show any interest in its quiet surroundings.
C. It’s become a center for those who study animals and plants.
D. It’s turned into a place where people can get close to nature.
11. What does the underlined word “embrace” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Accept. B. Delay. C. Imagine. D. Supervise.
B 9. C 10. D 11. A

根据划线词下文“the presence of more and more wildlife.(越来越多的野生动物出现了)”以及“After all, many city people have lost their tolerance to live with wildlife.(毕竟,许多城里人已经失去了与野生动物共处的忍耐力。)”可知,之前的底特律市环境遭到破坏,人们看不到野生动物,而现在越来越多的野生动物出现了;“The question is how we can prepare communities and environments to embrace the presence of more and more wildlife.(问题是我们如何让社区和环境做好准备,embrace越来越多的野生动物。)” 故选A项。

根据“a wide”和“of”可知,此处用固定短语a wide variety of,意为“各种各样的”。
故填is characterized。
故填to look。
根据“continual series of”可知,此处用固定短语a series of,意为“一系列的……”,且continual的发音以辅音音素开头,应用a。故填a。
分析句子可知,空处和空后的名词短语wooden framework、现在分词短语supporting most of the weight of the house构成状语,应用介词with构成with的复合结构,说明背景情况。 故填With。
故填What。
故填that。

A boy called Jamy always arrived home hungry every day and his parents couldn’t figure out why, despite making meals for him. When Jamy wouldn’t share what was going on, his parents decided to visit he school principal and his teacher Callum, hoping they could offer some insight.
After talking with Jamy’s classmates, the principal and his parents heard a story they weren’t expecting. Although Jamy never talked about it, his classmates told them that he always came to school without food. The principal and his parents were shocked. No wonder Jamy was always so hungry after school! Was there something happening on the way to school that Jamy didn’t tell them?

During the conversation with the teacher, Jamy refused to say any further details about the situation, leaving everyone frustrated and helpless. And despite multiple questioning, Jamy still refused to say any knowledge of the situation. This left the principal and the teacher so confused that they were at a loss what to do.

One day, by accident, Jamy’s father found a thank-you note from his study. The information was as follows: A boy thanked Jamy for helping him with the lunch issue. In fact, the boy came from a poor family and wasn’t able to afford a meal. Afterwards, Jamy decided that he would give his own lunch to the boy and told the boy not to tell anyone. The boy was so grateful to Jamy for giving him a chance to have lunch. A secret act of kindness resolved the mystery of the missing lunches.
Jamy’s parents were touched by Jamy’s act of kindness. They thought that it was a great example of how people should look after one another, especially those in need. As a gesture of gratitude, Jamy’s father decided to give Jamy two lunch boxes so that the boy would never have to worry about being hungry again. Jamy was celebrated as a hero that day and was proud to have done something so selfless. His father went to Jamy, hugged him and said that it was a noble thing to do. Jamy felt proud of himself. All his family members also praised him for his being so kind, brave and generous.

By 2000 there were fewer than one million people living in the city.
A. Accept. B. Delay. C. Imagine. D. Supervise.
D
