Peru is famously known as “Land of the Incas”. A trip to Peru has been on my wish list for quite a while. It was finally time for me to visit the country.
My first day started in Lima, the capital of Peru. I met with the G Adventures representative (代表) here about the tour. G Adventures is an organization that helps you to connect with other like-minded people in small group-based travel adventures. They played a big part in helping to make Peru an unforgettable experience for me! In Lima, my representative discussed the plan of my tour, and I also had the chance to explore Lima in my own time, with many activities, including a city tour, show, biking tour, and more.
Day two had me taking a flight from Lima to Cusco. Many people visit Cusco for shopping but for me, the main reason for spending a day or two in Cusco was to acclimatize (适应) to the altitude (海拔). As I’d decided to reach the wonder of Machu Picchu, acclimatizing became important to avoid altitude sickness. I was happy to spend a day exploring Cusco. Cusco was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Today, it’s famous for its artists, paintings, clothing and traditional instruments. There’s something for everyone in this city.
The day finally came! Day three had me enjoying a lovely guided visit to Machu Picchu at sunrise. I had free time to explore the city on my own as well as with my guide. It was a lot to take in! I had to stop for a moment and felt the energy of such an ancient city. The history here was unbelievable and I will never forget my time here for as long as I live!
24. What is the author’s attitude to G Adventures?
A. Doubtful. B. Satisfied. C. Uninterested. D. Hopeful.
25. Why did the author stay in Cusco?
A. To go shopping. B. To find a local guide.
C. To get used to the high altitude. D. To do research about the Inca Empire.
26. How did the author feel when traveling around Machu Picchu?
A. Full of excitement. B. Out of luck.
C. Lost in doubt. D. Deep in regret.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. My love of traveling B. My wonderful trip to Peru
C. Peru: “Land of the Incas”. D. Traveling: the future of Peru.

Everybody likes to laugh sometimes, whether at a funny joke, an amusing incident or a humorous photograph or sound. The great thing is that once we’ve had a good laugh, we feel happier. It would seem therefore, that bringing a bit of humour into more serious situations might be good for us.
Places like a humourless office or a tense classroom could sometimes need a good dose of laughter. I know that in my workplace, a bit of hilarity can go a long way towards making it a more enjoyable place to spend eight or so hours a day. Seeing the funny side of things can certainly lift our spirits and that in turn can make us feel better about what we’re doing.
Maybe we should get inspiration from Steve Carlisle, president of General Motors of Canada. When he walks around the firm’s Ontario headquarters he shares his sense of humour to bond (与……建立密切联系) with his staff. He says, “It can help people feel more relaxed, more comfortable and thus be more effective at what they do.” Humour can be used by teachers in the classroom too. It’s a good way to break the ice with students and create a more relaxing atmosphere which is good for learning.
But we have to be careful; not everyone laughs at the same things. While some of us may admire a work colleague or fellow student for their clever and well-told joke, others may consider them sarcastic (讽刺的), offensive or just an idiot!
According to Professor Schweitzer, from the University of Philadelphia’s Wharton School, a worker or boss who successfully uses humour is seen as both confident and competent, which in turn increases his or her status. He says, “Being funny is taking a risk, and being risky shows confidence.”
28. What does the underlined word “hilarity” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Humour. B. Horror. C. Stress. D. Time-off.
29. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Bad jokes can have positive effects. B. People are always admired for their jokes.
C. Humour can help employees get more effective. D. Seriousness can have a bad impact on your health.
30. What do we know about Steve Carlisle?
A. He likes telling jokes to his employees.
B. He uses his humour to break ice with students.
C. He often leaves his office to watch over his staff.
D. He considers humour a reflection of confidence and competence.
31. In which column will you probably find the text in a magazine?
A. History. B. Lifestyle. C. Travel. D. Sport.

Starting this December, multiple popular Chinese apps and websites such as WeChat, Taobao and Douyin will be redesigned to make them more senior-friendly.
These redesigns are aimed at solving challenges faced by the elderly in using new smart phones. Specifically, the measures include: launching senior-friendly products with easy-to-use interfaces(界面); and improving the accuracy(精确度)of dialect-recognition systems to allow the elderly who can’t speak Mandarin(普通话) to use voice commands. Also, on apps set to “senior mode,” there will be no mobile advertisement, or any design that leads people to extra payments; and people over 65 will be able to reach a customer services assistant over the phone without the need to follow difficult voice instructions or type text through keypad(小键盘).
Nowadays, people in China use their cellphones for everything: Ordering taxis, making payments, booking train tickets and ordering take away. However, among the 274 million senior cellphone users in China, nearly 140 million don’t have internet access or never enjoyed the benefits of a smartphone.
As smart technology becomes increasingly widespread, the elderly can sometimes run into problems. For example, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a “health code” is required to enter public places in China. However, this has made it difficult for many senior citizens to get around if they don’t know how to use a smartphone or the “health code.” Therefore, recently, the call for solving the difficulties that the elderly face when using smart technology has become stronger in China.
Making websites and apps more senior-friendly is a new campaign started by the Chinese government to make the elderly’s life easier. According to reports, 115 websites and 43 apps are planning to rollout barrier-free designs for the elderly this year. Many have described these new changes as truly heartwarming.
32. What’s the main idea of paragraph 2?
A. The benefits of smartphones.
B. The advanced technologies of mobile apps.
C. The problems facing the elderly when using smart phones.
D. The newly-designed functions of smartphones for the elderly.
33. What can we infer from paragraph 3?
A. People cannot make payment without a cellphone.
B. There are still a lot of people who don’t own a cellphone.
C. A large number of old people haven’t benefited from smartphones.
D. Almost all the senior people are afraid of using smartphone technologies.
34. What specific difficulty have the elderly faced in using smart technology, particularly during the COVID-19?
A. They don’t have a smartphone.
B. They can’t apply for a “health code”.
C. They are not familiar with smartphone use.
D. They are not allowed to enter public places.
35. Which of the following could be the best title for this text?
A. Senior-Friendly Changes of Apps
B. What You Can’t Miss about New Apps
C. How the Elderly are Troubled by Technologies
D. The Appropriate Ways of Respecting the Elderly

In the past three years, my dad had tried his best to give me guidance on my running and encouraged me to do better and better. Running was everything to me, and also to my dad. He was a runner and was amazed by my progress in running. He would attend my every race, even flying home early from business trips to see me run.
I always listened for his voice, which rang above the crowd—telling me to relax my arms and calling out my time. He pushed me, cheered me on and believed in me. We spent countless hours running in the sandy areas of Arizona. Breathing in the dust of the desert and the smell of the farm, we made our way across our city. We pounded miles and miles into our-running shoes, marking our journey towards greatness with every single step. It was a journey that was just ours and a dream passed on from one generation to the next.
Then, we welcomed the arrival of the important race, the state cross-country race of my senior year of high school. During the past three years. my dad and I had been working hard for the race. Finally, it came.
I will never forget that November day. It was extremely hot. As I waited for the gun to fire, my throat felt like a field of cotton cracking (裂开) with the summer heat. I looked out at the crowd; dozens of familiar faces from my community and school shone across my view. They had come for me. They all had confidence in me. I saw my dad setting his watch. Obviously, he was a little worried.
My heart was beating with excitement, and then the race began. For the first two and a half miles, I felt great. I had never been so ready for something. The hot sun beat upon my back, blinding me with its brilliance. Nothing was going to stop me, though. Determination made me focused and guided my steps. In all of my races, I was in the front.
Then without warning, my strength began to weaken.

Basically, birding involves observing birds in their natural habitat. I usually go out with a guidebook in the mornings because most birds are very active in finding food at that time. Because I’m new to birding, I use my bird guidebook to look up certain kinds of birds. I have to look carefully at their feathers, the way they behave and move and their size to recognize many birds because some look very similar. Besides looking at birds, I like the activity because it gives me a chance to exercise as I travel to different places, and it allows me to relax my mind in the great outdoors.

【答案】24. B 25. C 26. A 27. B
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了作者旅游秘鲁的故事。
【24题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“G Adventures is an organization that helps you to connect with other like-minded people in small group-based travel adventures. They played a big part in helping to make Peru an unforgettable experience for me!”(G Adventures是一个组织,它可以帮助你与其他志同道合的人在小型团体旅行冒险中建立联系。他们在让秘鲁成为我难忘的经历中发挥了重要作用!)可推知,作者对G Adventures的态度是很满意的。故选B项。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Many people visit Cusco for shopping but for me, the main reason for spending a day or two in Cusco was to acclimatize (适应) to the altitude (海拔).”(很多人来库斯科是为了购物,但对我来说,在库斯科呆一两天的主要原因是为了适应这里的海拔高度。)可知,作者留在库斯科是为了适应高海拔。故选C项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Day three had me enjoying a lovely guided visit to Machu Picchu at sunrise. I had free time to explore the city on my own as well as with my guide. It was a lot to take in! I had to stop for a moment and felt the energy of such an ancient city. The history here was unbelievable and I will never forget my time here for as long as I live!”(第三天,在导游的带领下,我在日出时分游览了马丘比丘。 故选A项。
【27题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段“Peru is famously known as “Land of the Incas”. A trip to Peru has been on my wish list for quite a while. It was finally time for me to visit the country.”(秘鲁以“印加人之地”而闻名。去秘鲁旅行已经在我的愿望清单上很久了。终于到了我访问这个国家的时候了。)和后文内容可知,本文主要讲述了作者拜访秘鲁的旅行。所以B项“My wonderful trip to Peru.”(我愉快的秘鲁之旅)切合文意。故选B项。
C
A Humour. B. Horror. C. Stress. D. Time-off.
A. History. B. Lifestyle. C. Travel. D. Sport.
【答案】28. A 29. C 30. A 31. B

【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章通过举例阐述了幽默对于学习和工作的好处,同时辩证地提到了不合适的幽默的反面作用。
【28题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第一段中“It would seem therefore, that bringing a bit of humour into more serious situations might be good for us.(因此,在更严肃的场合中加入一点幽默似乎对我们有好处)”;第二段“Places like a humourless office or a tense classroom could sometimes need a good dose of laughter.(像毫无幽默感的办公室或紧张的教室这样的地方,有时需要一点笑声)”以及划线词后文“can go a long way towards making it a more enjoyable place to spend eight or so hours a day”可知,对于严肃的办公室或者紧张的教室之类的地方,有时一剂笑声就会带来大不同,所以在上班的地方,一点点幽默就能让这个每天工作八小时的场所变得更愉快。故划线词意思是“幽默”。故选 A。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“When he walks around the firm’s Ontario headquarters he shares his sense of humour to bond (与……建立密切联系) with his staff. He says, “It can help people feel more relaxed, more comfortable and thus be more effective at what they do.”(当他在公司位于安大略省的总部走动时,他会分享自己的幽默感,与员工建立联系。他说:“它可以帮助人们感到更放松,更舒适,从而更有效地工作。”)”可知,幽默能帮助员工在工作中更高效。故选 C。
【30题详解】

B The advanced technologies of mobile apps.
【答案】32. D 33. C 34. C 35. A

【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段第二句“However, among the 274 million senior cellphone users in China, nearly 140 million don’t have internet access or never enjoyed the benefits of a smartphone.”(然而,在中国2.74亿老年手机用户中,近1.4亿人没有互联网接入,或者从未享受过智能手机的好处。)可知,在第三段中可以推测出大量老年人没有从智能手机中受益。故选C项。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“For example, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a “health code” is required to enter public places in China. However, this has made it difficult for many senior citizens to get around if they don’t know how to use a smartphone or the “health code.””(例如,由于新冠肺炎疫情,在中国,进入公共场所需要“健康码”。

根据上文“It can be difficult to start a hobby. You may have come across one that requires you to buy costly equipment.”(开始一个兴趣是很难的,你可能需要购买昂贵的设备。);下文“Find a low—cost hobby and pick something that is interesting and doesn't require a lot of materials to start.”( 找一个低成本的爱好,选择一个有趣的,不需要很多材料的开始。)可知,空格处需要承上启下的句子。所以“The truth is that many hobbies can be started without much money.”(事实上许多爱好可以不花费多少钱就能开始。)符合逻辑。without much money呼应Find a low—cost hobby。故选E项。
【37题详解】
根据下文“Look for rocks, plant leaves and flowers. Take a walk along a beach and look for sea glass.”( 寻找岩石、植物叶子和花朵。沿着海滩散步,寻找海玻璃。)可知,这些活动都是在户外开展的。所以“One way to do this is to go outside.”(其中一种方法就是到外面去。)符合逻辑。故选C项。
【38题详解】
根据小标题“Start an art or craft(工艺)project. ”(开始一门艺术或工艺项目。)可知,这一段主要讲如果把手工艺作为一种爱好;再根据下文“Writing, drawing, and more will likely be available to you simply by using what you already have on hand.”(只要使用你手头已有的东西,你就可以写东西、画画等等。)可知,这个兴趣爱好很简单。所以“Many arts and crafts can be started with few materials.”(许多工艺品可以用很少的材料开始。)符合逻辑。故选D项。

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
My lungs fought to take in enough air. And my feet felt like bricks. Neck and neck with one of my greatest competitors, I could see the finish line. Nothing I could do would make my knees and legs hold my weight. They were weak. As other runners rushed by me, I was worried. Although my dreams of victory were destroyed, I had to finish the race. With all of the remaining strength, I got on my hands and knees, inch by inch, across the finish line.
The medical workers were there in seconds and covered my mouth with an oxygen mask. My eyes searched the crowd for my dad. As he pushed his way to my side, I was in tears. I whispered, “Sorry, Dad. I disappointed you.” He looked at me, saying, “No. Sometimes these things just happen. All that matters is that you did your best.” “But we worked so hard. What about our dream?” He encouraged me with words, “We can continue going after it.” It wasn’t long before I put on my running shoes again to mark a new path for my journey.
