Nowadays, young people wear cool clothes to look good or express their personalities. I think it’s a good way to make a good impression (印象). When I choose clothes, I also prefer something fashionable. It tells people that I care about my image.

In 1928, a scientist named Alexander Fleming made a big discovery called penicillin (青霉素). It’s a medicine that fights off germs (细菌) and can stop infections. Before penicillin, getting sick with something like a small cut could be very dangerous because there was no good way to fight the infection.
Fleming found penicillin by chance. He noticed that a special kind of mold (微生物), which had grown by itself in his lab, could kill harmful germs. This was a very important finding because it meant doctors could use penicillin to make sick people better.
Thanks to Fleming’s discovery, by the 1940s, doctors were able to use penicillin to help soldiers who got hurt in World War II, saving many lives. Nowadays, penicillin and medicines like it are common and help treat all kinds of infections.

OpenAI has created a new AI called Sora and it is getting a lot of attention. Unlike other AIs that make texts or pictures, Sora can turn sentences into videos! You can enjoy these videos on any screen, big or small. Sora knows how to make scenes with many people doing different things, paying attention to every little detail. It’s also getting better at showing things the way they really look.
Sora learns by watching lots of videos and breaking them down. At first, the videos it makes are gray and look messy. But through keeping learning, Sora improves them until they look good. ChatGPT helps too, by making it easier for Sora to understand what we ask for.
But Sora is still being tested and is not perfect yet. It sometimes has problems with complex (复杂的) actions. For example, there’s a video where a grandma blows out a birthday candle, but the candle’s flame (火焰) doesn’t move. Even though Sora has things to work on, it’s an exciting step forward in AI. It shows us something amazing in the future where AIs can make even more fantastic videos.

A. By using special cameras. B. By asking scientists for help.

Is It More Important to Work Independently or as Part of a Team?
Our school recently had a survey asking if students prefer teamwork or working independently. Interestingly, 65% of the students favored teamwork, believing it improves creativity and provides more learning opportunities through working together. Meanwhile, 35% preferred working independently because they pay more attention to independence and concentration.
As for me, I stand with the majority. I believe working in a team not only opens one’s mind but helps develop key interpersonal skills like communication and teamwork. These are important qualities that benefit us beyond school studies and they can prepare us for future challenges.
In general, while working alone teaches us how to be independent, working as part of a team still plays an important role in achieving growth and success.

Do you have fashion anxiety (时尚焦虑)? What do you think about it? Check some answers of teenagers from different classes in our school.
I don’t have fashion anxiety. I think people have the right to choose what they wear. No matter if we like someone’s look or not, we’d better not judge it.

Thanks to Fleming’s discovery by the 1940s, doctors were able to use penicillin to help soldiers who got hurt in World War II, saving many lives. Nowadays, penicillin and medicines like it are common and help treat all kinds of infections.
Fleming’s discovery of penicillin shows us that sometimes, great things can be found when we’re not even looking for them. It has helped millions of people and is one of the biggest discoveries in the history of medicine. It’s also thought to be the start of developing modern medicines.
50. What is special about Sora compared to other AIs created by OpenAI?
A. It makes texts or pictures. B. It can play video games.
C. It can create music from text. D. It turns sentences into videos.
51. How does Sora improve the videos it makes?
A. By using special cameras. B. By asking scientists for help.
C. By asking advice from people. D. By watching and learning videos.
52. What is one of the challenges that Sora faces in creating videos now?
A. It cannot master different painting skills.
B. It has difficulty making the videos colorful.
C. It has trouble with showing complex actions clearly.
D. It can only make videos that are less than one minute long.

Once upon a time in a big forest, there lived a wise old owl (猫头鹰) named Oliver who loved to read in the tree at night. Nearby, a cheerful squirrel (松鼠) named Sammy spent his days collecting beautiful stones, never worrying about tomorrow.
One day, Sammy saw Oliver reading and asked, “Why do you read all day?” Oliver replied, “To learn and prepare for the future.” Sammy just laughed and ran off to play.
As winter came, food became less. Sammy, who had only played, found his food stock (食物储备) empty. At the same time, Oliver, who had learned about storing food from his books, had plenty to eat.
Seeing Sammy in trouble, kind Oliver shared his food and taught him how to prepare for hard times. Sammy realized the importance of balancing fun with responsibility. He learned to read and plan ahead, making sure he’d never be unprepared again.
From then on, Sammy read books alongside Oliver under the moonlight, becoming wiser every day. Sammy’s experience showed all animals the importance of reading books and also taught them a valuable lesson.
