If you have been dreaming of becoming an astronaut when you grow up, get started now! An astronaut needs a strong body and mind. Shenzhou XIIIastronauts are able to live upside down(倒转). They do this not just during sleep, but also when eating and going to the toilet. Before they 1 space, they had lots of practice. Each training lasted for many days.

A(2024·原创)
Early space exploration wasn’t firstly controlled by humans. We often hear about chimpanzees and even the little dog from Russia, Laika, who became one of the first animals to go into the orbit(轨道). But we seldom hear about the first cat in space. So what’s her story? It’s actually kind of sad.

Little Félicette was launched on October 18,1963. Rather than using dogs or chimpanzees, like Russia and the US, France decided to use cats to collect the necessary data for future manned missions. So, 14 cats were caught by French CERMA space scientists for their experiments.

They were fitted with electrodes(电极) to record their brain activity throughout the flight, and the cats had to undergo astronaut training. That included staying in small containers for a long time to test their reactions to space flight. After her launch in a rocket, which happened at just 8:09 am local time, the capsule(太空舱) was recovered(回收) 13 minutes later with Félicette luckily surviving the flight. It was said that most of the information collected from the short trip was usable and of good quality, making it a success. Sadly, however, the Parisian cat was euthanized(使安乐死) a few months later to examine her brain as well as the effects of spaceflight. No other cats were ever to become “catstronauts” again.

While she was technically only “in space” for about five minutes, she was often missed by some scientists. A sweet statue for Félicette in bronze was unveiled(公布于众) by three European Space Agency astronauts in December 2019 at the International Space University Campus in Strasbourg, France. She sits upon the planet Earth while looking up at the heavens. If you’re ever in Strasbourg, go and visit her.

Our nearest neighbour is the moon. In the sky, the moon and the sun seem to be of the same size because the moon is much nearer.
The moon makes the tides—the changes in the level of the sea. The moon and the sun together pull the sea. In some parts of the world, the difference between high tide (when the sea is very near to the land) and low tide (when the sea is far away from the land) is very big. This is very important to ships.

The moon is very different from the earth. Gravity(重力) on the earth is six times as strong as that on the moon. There isn’t any air. During the day, it is very hot but at night it is very cold. Nothing can live on the moon. If the moon goes between the earth and the sun, we have an eclipse of the sun(日食). The moon stops the light from the sun and we have night in the day. If the earth goes between the moon and the sun, we have an eclipse of the moon(月食). The moon goes into the shadow(影子) of the earth and it disappears for a few minutes.

There are billions of stars and planets in space. What’s the difference between the stars and the planets? 1
The sun is one of the stars. Some planets are balls of rocks and some are balls of gas. We live on a planet—the earth. 2 It also goes around the sun once every year to give us different seasons.

3 We call the family of the sun and its planets the solar system. Mercury(水星) is the nearest to the sun, so it is very hot. It is the smallest planet in the solar system. 4 It is the nearest to the earth. Mars is covered with red-orange dust and rocks, so it looks like a red star in the sky. It has seasons like the earth. Jupiter(木星) has 79 known natural satellites and it is the biggest and heaviest planet in the solar system. 5 The other planets such as Uranus(天王星) and Neptune(海王星) are all very far from the sun and very cold. We need a telescope to see them.
