(2021·百色)In Britain you may often hear "Drop in any time" or "Come to see me soon",but you can't really do that.People just say those things to make you feel welcome. It is better to telephone before visiting someone at home.If you receive a written invitation to an event that says "RSVP ",you should reply to let the person who sent the invitation know whether or not you plan to go.
You should never accept an invitation unless you really plan to go.You may refuse by saying. "Thank you for inviting me,but I will not be able to come. "If after accepting, you are unable to go,be sure to tell those who are expecting you as soon as possible that you will not be there.
Though it is not necessarily expected that you give a gift to your host,it is considered polite to do so,especially if you have been invited for a meal.Flowers, chocolate,or a small gift are all appropriate(合适的).A thank﹣you note or telephone call after the visit is also considered polite and is an appropriate way to express your appreciation for the invitation.

(2021百色)When you feel a sneeze(喷嚏)or cough coming on,covering your mouth prevents the spread of germs(细菌).You probably knew that.
But how to cover your mouth is very important. You might use tissues(纸巾),and put your used tissues into the bin. "If you don't have tissues, you should sneeze into your elbow, not your hand, even if you are used to doing that." The doctors advised.
"If somebody sneezes into his hands, those germs will be passed on to other people,or other objects that people touch." said Dr.Hill.
Germs are most commonly spread by sneezing and coughing. When they land on your hands, they are passed from hands to things like bills, door knobs(扶手),lift buttons and other surfaces. At the same time, the people around you can touch them.
"The suggestion was taken seriously about 10 years ago. However, most people didn't pay much attention to it.That means the adults may have missed the advice. But children are often taught in school the right way to cough or sneeze." Dr.Benjamin said.
To be clear, people can't keep away from all the risks in this way,but it's the best choice. At the same time,we'd better wear masks (口罩)and often wash our hands. "Hand washing is one of the most important things people can do to keep healthy." Dr.Hill said.

(2021 北部湾)Do you like writing by hand or with a keyboard?
A new brain research, led by researchers at Norwegian University of Science and Technology shows that choosing handwriting instead of using a keyboard results in better learning and memory.
"When you write your shopping list or class notes by hand, you simply remember what you wrote better later, " said Audrey van der Meer, who did the study.
12 young grown ﹣ ups and 12 children took part in the study. This is the first time that children have taken part in such a study.Special machines were used to follow and record brain wave (电波) activity. Each person wore a special cap with over 250 electrodes (电极) on the head, and was asked to write by hand and use a keyboard. The sensors (传感器) in the electrodes picked up the activity that took place in the brain. Each examination took 45 minutes for each person.
The results showed that the brain in both young grown ﹣ ups and children is much more active when writing by hand than when using a keyboard.According to Van der Meer, plenty of senses become active by holding a pen and pushing it down on paper, seeing the letters written and hearing the sound made while writing. These build connection between different parts of the brain, opening the brain up for learning.
Van der Meer believes that the results call attention to the importance of children being asked to draw and write at an early age, especially at school. "Learning to write by hand is a bit slower course, but it's important for children to experience the tiring step of learning to write by hand," she said.
The hand movements used to form the shapes of letters are helpful in several ways. "If you use a keyboard, you use the same movement for each letter.Writing by hand requires control of your fine motor (精细动作) skills and senses. It's important to put the brain in a learning condition as often as possible," Van der Meer added. For example, you might use a keyboard to write an article, but you should take notes by hand during a class.

(2023 重庆) Prince Caspian’s parents died. He lived with his uncle, Miraz, the King of Narnia and his aunt. Though he had wonderful toys, he liked best the last hour of the day when the toys had all been put away and Nurse would tell him stories.
He didn’t care much for his uncle and aunt, but about twice a week his uncle would ask him to come and have a walk together.
One day, while they were doing this, the King said, “Well, boy, we must soon teach you to ride and use a sword. You know we have no children, so it looks as if you might have to be King when I’m gone. How shall you like that, eh?”
“I don’t know, Uncle,” said Caspian. “What do you wish?” asked the King. “I wish-I wish—I wish I could have lived in the Old Days,” said Caspian.
Up till now the King had been talking in a tiresome way, which made it quite clear that he wasn’t really interested in what they were saying, but he suddenly gave Caspian a sharp(锐利的) look.
“Eh? What’s that?” he said. “What old days?”
“Oh, don’t you know, Uncle?” said Caspian. “Once there was a White Witch(女巫) and she made herself Queen of the whole country. And she made it so that it was always winter. And then two boys and two girls came from somewhere and killed the Witch and they were made Kings and Queens of Narnia. And so they ruled for a long time and everyone had a lovely time, and it was all because of Aslan.”

(2023·郴州)You may receive lots of gifts on your birthday. But have you ever thought about giving your birthday gifts to people in need? Kyle Breeden, a 12-year-old boy from Maryland, USA, has done that ever since he was six years old. On November 19th every year, Kyle invites his friends to his birthday celebration. He asks each friend to bring a new toy to donate(捐赠) to Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots is a project which gives out toys to children whose parents cannot usually buy them toys. Kyle has donated more than 2, 000 toys to the project. And he plans to continue collecting toys for other kids for years to come.
When Kyle was five, he asked his parents how he could help others. Kyle’s parents were excited to hear that and they helped him get in touch with Toys for Tots. From then on, he has looked forward to his birthday, but only to get toys. Then he collects the toys and goes to the Toys for Tots celebrations to donate them.
John Minadakis, who hosted a Toys for Tots celebration, said he had never seen someone give so much at such a young age. He believed the ability to put others before himself could take the boy far in life.
Kyle feels good when he helps others. He hopes that through his example, other kids will be inspired to give back. “Many people around my age don’t have toys to play with. I want to do something,” Kyle said. “Even the smallest toy can make a kid’s day.”

(2021 桂林)Water is important to all living things but some areas in the world are short of water a lot.So we should try to protect and save water.
A group of students from Zhejiang University have successfully developed an"air hand﹣washing machine".The machine uses an infrared ray induction system (红外线感应系统),which can feel the presence of our hands. If it feels there are hands, the water with the air will come from the tap.And it has been proven that it is nearly as effective as traditional hand﹣washing. It uses only ten percent of the water that regular hand﹣washing does. The students have even set up a company to introduce the product to the public.
Li Qizhang,a member of the team that developed the machine, told a reporter that a model of their machine had already been placed in a classroom building at the university and it worked very well.
In 2014,a student called Chen Puyang first thought of the idea while he was washing his hands.Washing one's hands uses a lot of water,Chen thought.Would it be possible to replace the water with air? Others may not give the question a second thought. However, for Chen and Li,who were studying fluid mechanics (流体力学) at the time, this was considered to be an excellent idea.
Soon,Chen,Li and several classmates started on the project. After a year of research, the team came up with a gravity﹣driven (重力驱动) hand﹣washing machine successfully.

(2022 百色)Days ago, I made a skirt for a friend's daughter.Today, I noticed a message on my phone on wechat (手机微信).It was my friend saying, "I know you worked hard on the skirt and it looks very nice, but Lingling doesn't like the pattern (图案) on the skirt.Could you change it?"
I was angry and wanted to call her back. Then I suddenly thought of Grandma and what she had once done for me long ago.
It was a summer when I was eight. One day, Grandma decided to dress up my hair with some flowers. She spent a long time on it, and she enjoyed doing that. When Grandma finished, she was so happy, and I stood on a chair to look at myself in the mirror. My heart went cold.
"You can go out and play now, " Grandma said, smiling.
I nodded and slowly walked towards the door.I looked out of the door and saw some kids playing outside. My best friend, Liu Mei, saw me and waved at me to go outside, but I couldn't move.I knew everyone would laugh at my hair, but I couldn't tell Grandma how I felt.
Finally I went into Grandma's room and said in a scared voice, "Grandma, I don't think the flowers in my hair look nice."
Grandma looked sad, but didn't say a word, she stood me back on the chair in front of the mirror. While Grandma was pulling out the flowers gently (轻柔地), I realized she loved me so deeply that she put my feelings before hers. And that is the kind of love I try to pass on today.
I picked up my phone and replied to my friend on wechat, "I am glad to change it."

(2022 梧州)David Bennett,a 57﹣year﹣old man from the US,received the world's first pig heart transplant(移植) on January 7th,2022.He died two months later on March 9th.
It may sound like a failure, but it actually is a big step forward for xenotransplantation(异种器官移植).
Xenotransplantation has been a hot topic in medical research for many years.Doctors and scientists look for ways to solve the big problem of organ (器官)transplant waiting lists. In the US alone, over 100,000 patients are on a list waiting for new organs. Many of them will die before getting their chance to receive a heart,a kidney(肾)or other important organs. As a result, medical science has turned to animal organs.
Doctors have experimented with xenotransplantation since the early 20th century. There are few success stories.Usually, patients' bodies reject (排斥)the animal organs.Bennet lived much longer than other xenotransplantation patients. That's because scientists removed pig genes(基因)that would cause fast rejection. Then they added human genes to help the body accept the organ.
In fact,Bennett's case was not the only success.Doctors at New York University attached(连接)gene﹣edited pig kidneys to a human patient's blood vessels(血管)outside of the boody in 2021.Doctors at University of Alabama put the gene﹣edited pig kidneys inside a patient's body in the same year.
Though these successes were short﹣lived, they show that there may be a way forward for xenotransplantation. "A lot of new information will come out.The development of this field will benefit from it and move forward at faster speed."Muhammad Mohiuddin, director of the transplant program, told The Guardian.

(2020 桂林)This summer I attended my first music festival. Unlike most of the festival goers, we didn't buy tickets. Instead, we volunteered as festival stewards. We each worked 3 shifts—each shift was 8 hours long—in exchange for a free ticket to the festival.
Leeds Festival is a large music festival which takes place yearly at the end of August, and thousands of people attend it each year.
There were several different stages, each catering for a different music taste: rock, pop, alternative and dance. As well as the fantastic music on offer, there were also funfair rides, food outlets and a silent disco. I loved silent discos: everyone had a set of headphones with two channels and music was played through the headphones. As a result, people could dance and sing along to completely different song!
While we weren't working we were free to enjoy the festival. We saw a wide variety of artists across the weekend. I really enjoyed seeing Imagine Dragons, Vampire Weekend and, of course, Arctic Monkey.
We camped for five nights and it was freezing every night! However, we had a really nice campsite. I had a great time and would definitely be retuning the next year!

(2020 梧州)Each year there are at least five million people around the world who develop serious(流感) and almost half a million deaths. When someone we know gets the flu virus (病毒), we expect them to be very careful not to pass it on to others. Doctors and nurses working with flu patients also need to protect themselves from the virus. But what is the best way to do this? This is the question that Professor Jonathan Van-Tam is trying to answer. He wants to find out how flu is transmitted (传播), so that he can stop doctors and nurses getting sick.
Since 2008 Van-Tam has been in charge of an Intentional group studying how the flu virus travels. For the first time, 41 volunteers agreed to live together. They lived in a clinic(诊所)in Cambridgeshire for two weeks, where they came into contact with the flu virus.
Van-Tam explains their methods. "Everyone lives together in the small space for four days. Some wear face masks, and wash hands every 15 minutes, but some have no protection. "
In his way we can study who catches the flu and which ways of transmitting flu are important.
The experiment (试验) is not simple. At the moment the team are working on three studies.
Van-Tam believes that if this type of study works well the results will help decide what protection people need working in hospital with flu patients around the world. And perhaps it could decline the number of deaths from flu each year.
11. According to the passage we can infer(推断)that ________.
A.Professor Van-Tam wants his study to help reduce the possibility of catching flu
B.all the volunteers didn't have contact with the flu virus
C.the group led by Van-Tam only did one study
D.the studies have already been finished

It was my first day at school. It was also Miss Caroline’s first day to be a teacher.
Miss Caroline began the day by reading us a story about cats. Then she started to teach us the alphabet (字母表).
When Miss Caroline discovered that I was literate (有读写能力的), she said, “Tell your father not to teach you any more. It’s best to begin reading and writing with a fresh mind.”
After supper that night, Atticus sat down with the paper and called, “Scout, ready to read?”
I told Atticus I didn’t feel very well and didn’t think I’d go to school any more if it was all right with him.
“You never went to school and you do all right, so I’ll just stay home too. You can teach me like Granddaddy taught you.”
“No, I can’t,” said Atticus. “I have to make a living. Besides, they’d put me in prison if I kept you at home. Now what’s the matter?”
I told him what happened at school. “Miss Caroline said you taught me all wrong, so we can’t ever read any more. Please don’t send me back, please sir.”
“First of all,” he said, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of people. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view—”
“Sir?”
“—until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
Atticus continued, “You learned many things today. Miss Caroline learned several things herself. We could not expect her to learn all our ways in one day, and we should understand her when she knew no better.”
“But if I keep on going to school, we can’t ever read any more…”
“That’s really worrying you, isn’t it?”
“Yes, sir.”
When Atticus looked at me, I saw the look on his face that always made me expect something. “Do you know what a compromise (妥协) is?” he asked.
“Breaking the law?”
“No, an agreement. It works this way,” he said. “If you promise me to go to school, we’ll go on reading every night as usual. Is it OK?”
“Yes sir!”
12. What can we infer from the passage?
A.Scout didn’t trust Atticus.
B.Scout didn’t like reading.
C.Atticus was a wise father.

(2023 广西)Peng Shilu was born in a family of heroes in Haifeng, Guangdong in 1925. When he was less than five years old, his parents died. The young boy was taken care of and protected by the poor, and he moved between different families and lived a difficult life. The people’s kindness influenced him deeply at his early age.
In 1940, Peng Shilu was taken to Chongqing. Later, with the help of the CPC (中国共产党), he went to study in Yan’an. In 1951, he went abroad to learn chemical engineering. When he completed his studies, he got an excellent grade.
In 1956, Peng Shilu was asked, “Are you willing to change your research field?”
“Of course, as long as the motherland has a need!” With the strong belief (信念), Peng Shilu began to study nuclear power (核能) at once. In the early 1960s, China’s development of nuclear submarines (核潜艇) was almost a “blank”. Peng Shilu and other scientists were learning, exploring and practicing. In 1970, China’s first nuclear submarine was built. In 1974, China became the fifth country in the world to have a nuclear submarine.
Peng Shilu worked very hard. He spent all his life on nuclear power. “I have only done two things in my life. One is to build nuclear submarines and the other is to build nuclear power stations,” said Peng Shilu.
He died on March 22, 2021, at the age of 96. As a pioneer in nuclear power, he is remembered by the people and the country. On March 3, 2022, he was named “Touching China’s Figure of the Year 2021”.

① Green is the color of nature and the symbol of life. For thousands of years, humans have followed the laws of nature to live in harmony (和谐) with nature.
② That has been seen in ancient Chinese houses. Ancient Chinese often built their homes at the foot of the mountain with a river running nearby. The mountains could stop the cold wind from the north and the river provided water for life. Most houses were also built facing south or west so that the rooms were able to get enough sunshine in winter and keep cool in summer.
③ In modern times, humans didn’t follow the laws of nature during fast development. Luckily, it’s never too late to make changes.
④ Green development is the goal of all countries. On April 23, 2016, China signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, giving a strong push to the international efforts against global (全球的) warming.
⑤ Also in China, the government added green development to the country’s work plans. From 1999 to the end of 2018, by carrying out Mother River Protection Operation, China raised 600 million yuan to build over 5,700 green projects. Through international cooperation (合作), over 98.32 million trees were planted across China.
⑥ Denmark is a leading country in wind and solar technologies. This year Denmark has started the “Power-to-X” plan, providing about 1.25 billion kroner (about 1.27 billion yuan) for projects producing hydrogen (氢气).
⑦ Builders across the world are also playing a role in green development. In Chicago, pressed newspaper, recycled glass and plastic are used on buildings. In Bali, the green school is made from bamboo. The school gets its electricity (电) from solar panels (太阳能电池板), water power and a generator that burns farm waste.
⑧ Following the laws of nature is the only way out. A small move in one country may influence the global community as a whole. Let’s join our hands to make the world a better place for now and future.
3. How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 7?

B.Green buildings are the future of the world.

(2021梧州)Students from a Middle School, experience farming during their labor course. Housework like cooking and washing always ends up at the bottom of many of our to-do lists. Some people even think that it should be taken care of by their parents.
However, these life skills are important and should be taught as part of labor education. On June 3, 2020, the Ministry of Education (MOE) (教育部) gave a revised (修订后的) course for high schools across the county. Labor education, also called education on the hardworking spirit, range from housework to school labor and community voluntary services (社会志愿服务).
“Labor education must be carried out with the aim to develop the view of the world, life and values and develop an interest in doing chores.” said Zheng Fuzhi, a Vice-Minister (副部长) of Education.
According to China Youth Daily, the labor course will take six credits—the same as English and physics, Voluntary service, as part of labor education, would take two credits. The MOE also asks schools to make sure 40 hours of voluntary service during the full three school years.
According to Xinhua, adding labor education was out of care that the country’s youngsters do too little housework and that they think labor jobs aren’t important. Because of a lot of school stress, schools pay more attention to the educational course, and parents sometimes think that housework wastes their kids’ time.
According to a survey, primary and middle school students in China only spend 12 minutes a day on chores, compared with 72 minutes in the US, 42 minutes in South Korea and 30 minutes in France.
However, doing housework does not take young people’s attention away. Instead, it is necessary for developing a strong working spirit. “The earlier you start, the better...” the writer of How to Raise an Adult said.
5. What did the writer of How to Raise an Adult think of doing housework?
A.Difficult.
B.Popular.
C.Important.
D.Comfortable.

When Drew Mascotti graduated from high school, he got a job delivering(送)pizzas. But soon he realized that it wasn’t what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. So he took a night class at a local tech school to see if welding(焊接)—which joins two metals together with heat—was a skill that “was going to stick.”
It did. Mascotti wanted to learn everything about welding and decided he’d make welding his career.
But one night class wouldn’t be enough. Mascotti went to Hobart Welding School in Ohio for real, technical training. Besides welding courses, Mascotti also took classes in subjects like metallurgy-the study of metal—and reading blueprints. He became more certain that he would stick to the job.
For the past 18 years, Mascotti has been a welder. He now works for the EEW Group. The company has a big project to carry out. It’s in the process of opening a factory that will produce monopiles for offshore wind turbines(涡轮机). Wind turbines produce eco-friendly electricity.
A typical day for Mascotti includes a number of tasks and skills. One minute, he’s driving a forklift. The next, he’s reading blueprints, or cutting materials. “There are a lot to deal with,” he told Time for Kids. “It’s not just welding.”
Mascotti’s favorite part of being a welder is “making an honest living”. He also takes pride in helping the environment. “I’m glad to stick to what I really want to do,” he says. “I’m working for a company that is helping the country to go green, and it’s satisfying to be a part of that process.”
6. How might Drew Mascotti think of his job?
A.Busy but meaningful.
B.Easy and satisfying.
C.Tiring but highly paid.
D.Relaxing and helpful.

Thousands of runners tied their running shoes and rushed out from the starting line while crowds cheered along the course. Marathons (马拉松) in China are getting popular again.
According to the Chinese Athletics Association, a total of 133 marathons across the country have been registered (注册) for the first six months of the year. On March 26, more than 300,000 runners took part in 26 marathon races nationwide, reported China Daily.
Teenagers have also taken part in marathons. Xu Qian, a 15-year-old from Suqian, Jiangsu, loves running. He got first place in the 5-kilometer Happy Run of the Jingdong Suqian Marathon held on April 2. For Xu, the race meant months of training and preparation. He ran about 30 to 40 kilometers in local stadiums each week ahead of the run.
“Unlike the 800-meter run at school which is more about speed, a marathon tests a runner’s endurance (耐力) and psychological quality (心理素质),” he told Teens.
When he felt tired during the race, he told himself not to give up. “In long distance running, the only opponent you have to beat is yourself,” Xu added.
Apart from one’s willpower, kindness from the crowds also plays a big part in helping runners get to the finish line. ChatGPT, a new chatbot model! Developed by Open AI, has quickly become a hit all over the world because of its powerful conversational abilities.
It can write emails, computer codes (代码), songs, poems, and even short stories, and has passed a number of tests within seconds. Experts around the world are discussing whether AI should be used in education. Some schools have banned(禁止)it. The New York City’s Department of Education, for example, banned ChatGPT from its public school networks, and some people are warning that it could encourage more students to cheat, especially in exams.
Many more welcome this app, saying that, like most technologies in history, ChatGPT is a powerful tool for the development of education.
Accepting AI as early as possible is a good choice. Schools should make preparations for including AI in their teaching plans. They can start by offering AI courses, because by understanding how it works, they can make better use of it. Besides, students with good knowledge of AI are more competitive when it comes to getting a job, as an increasing number of jobs are being done by computer programs. AI powered education technologies can be used to make the learning experience more suitable for each student. As for teachers, AI can free them from doing some boring work so they can focus on their teaching.
Since we cannot avoid ChatGPT and other AI powered apps from entering the field of education, we should make efforts to make sure they have a positive impact(积极影响)on society and the future of education. AI helps to make learning much more interesting and enjoyable, but humans need to work very hard to win the race with technology.
9. What is the writer’s attitude(态度)towards ChatGPT?
A.Supportive.
B.Doubtful.
C.Uncertain.

The next day, Peter held up a notice as The Green Dragon came out of the tunnel towards the cottage (a small house in the country). The notice said, “LOOK OUT AT THIS STATION.”
The old gentleman saw the notice. He looked out at the station as the train came in. He saw a little girl—it was Phyllis—running towards his carriage. He stood up and leaned out of the window of his carriage.
“Please read this,” Phyllis said, and put a letter into his hand.
The train left the station. The old gentleman sat down and read the letter. It was from Peter. The letter said:
Dear Mr. We do not know your name.
Mother is ill, and the doctor says we must give her some special things. But Mother can’t afford them. We do not know anyone here because Father is away, and we do not know where he lives.
Father will pay you, or if he has lost all his money, I will pay you when I am a man. I promise you. Please get all the things on this list, and give them to the station master tomorrow.
The letter was signed by Peter, Roberta, and Phyllis.
The old gentleman read the letter and smiled. Then he put it in his pocket and started to read his newspaper again.
That night there was a knock on the door of the cottage. The porter from the railway station was there.
“An old gentleman gave this parcel (包裹) to the station master,” he said. “It’s for you.”

Dear Peter, Roberta, and Phyllis,
Here are the things on your list. I am very happy to give them to you, and I hope your mother is soon better. When she asks where the things come from, tell her they are from a friend. When she is well, you can tell her the truth. She may say that you were wrong to ask a stranger for these things.
I think you were right.
The letter was signed “G.P.” and something that the children could not read.

“Please calm down and sit,” said Mr. Johnson, “I’m glad everyone’s here for the final reading test of the year.” When everyone cried, Mr. Johnson laughed, saying it was just a joke. Then he reminded us that we still had a job to do. “You need to clean out your desks and put all your things into your backpacks.” he added gently.

(2023·江苏南通 · 统考中考真题)Climate change (气候变化) has brought a serious warning to the living areas of the Siberian crane, increasing the need to better protect the birds and their migratory channels(迁徙路径), an expert said.
The Siberian crane breeds (繁殖) in northeast Siberia in Russia and flies to Poyang Lake for the winter in East China’s Jiangxi Province. About 95 percent of the birds spend the season in Poyang.
Qian Fawen, a research professor from the National Bird Banding Center of China, said that Poyang’s water levels decide whether it is suitable for the birds to live there. However, climate change has made the levels change often. “In some years, the lake experiences floods; in others, it experiences droughts. Both of
these situations create food shortages in the cranes’ living area,” he said.
The Siberian crane is listed as seriously endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. “We need to protect their living area, which is mainly wetland, so that we can protect them,” Qian said.
In the recently announced National Action Plan for the Protection of Bird Migration Channels (2021- 35), 1, 140 places in China were considered as important breeding grounds, wintering grounds and staying stops, including Poyang and the Yellow River wetland inNingxia. The plan said that the government should watch and count the number of migratory birds and pay farmers for losses caused by the birds.
Since China joined the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1992, it has designated ( 指定) 202,600 hectares of wetland as Wetlands of International Importance. They store and clean water, keep all kinds of living things, help store floods and prevent droughts. According to a plan announced by the central government in October, by 2025, China will have protected 55 percent of its wetlands.
After the Wetlands Protection Law, the nation’s first law to protect wetlands, was introduced on June 1, 2022, complete protection was strengthened. The law clearly explained what the government should do and introduced strict punishment for people who destroy wetland areas. It limits building at important national wetlands and it doesn’t allow harmful activities, including using them as farmlands, leaving wastewater everywhere, harvesting and fishing too much.
Key nature reserve management offices in China have reported more birds wintering in the nation’s
wetlands, including some new rare kinds. ▲
4.What will the writer probably continue to write in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 8?
A .People have done something to protect wetlands.
B .The number of the birds has increased in wetlands.
C .Experts will go on to do other research on wetlands.
D .The government will make more laws to protect wetlands.

(2021 梧州)Recycling is a way to take rubbish and turn it into new products. It’s helpful to our environment. There are a number of different recycling steps that allow materials to be used more than once.
All kinds of materials can be recycled. Some of the most common things in use today include recycling plastic, glass, metals and paper. Things made of these materials include soda cans, plastic milk boxes, newspapers, computers and cardboard boxes.
There are a number of advantages for recycling. These include: Landfills—Recycling materials means less rubbish and saves space in landfills. Resources—When we use materials again, this means we can take fewer resources from the earth. Pollution—in general, recycling materials can produce less pollution, helping to keep our environment clean.
Be sure to recycle everything you can in your house and school. There is almost a “recycle” rubbish can around. Be sure to drop your used aluminum cans and plastic bottles there. At home, be sure to put paper things like the newspapers, paper boxes, and homework pages into the recycle box.
Plastics are usually marked with an identification code that shows a recycling symbol and a number from 1 to 7. This shows that the type of chemicals, or materials, is used in making the plastic. Used paper can be recycled around seven times.
It is high time we set up a recycle station in every street, across the city and the country, so the cleaners can transport the rubbish conveniently. This is the only way out for handling rubbish without causing danger to the environment and our health. For ourselves, our children and our children’s children, let’s take action NOW!
1. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A.We should recycle everything in our daily life.
B.Many resources can be saved by recycling.
C.We should take action to recycle rubbish.
D.Recycle stations should be set up in the street.

Teenagers need eight to ten hours of sleep per night. However, in adolescence (青春期) changes to the body’s sleep cycle make it difficult for teens to fall asleep early. Many cannot fall asleep until 10:30 p.m. or even later and most of them will feel sleepy if they have to get up too early.
Scientists recommend that both middle and high schools begin no earlier than 8:30 a.m. Later school start times support the natural needs of teenagers and increase their sleeping time.
Here are some other benefits of later school start times:
More time for a healthy breakfast
When running late in the mornings, students are likely to go without breakfast. With an empty stomach, one finds it difficult to focus (集中) in class. When they are always in a hurry, students may form unhealthy eating habits.
With extra time before going to school, students can eat a well-balanced breakfast and focus more on learning.
Fewer behavioral (行为的) problems
Teens experience mood changes as a common result of this special period of life. Less sleep may cause worries, stress and unhappiness.
When they get enough sleep, students are calm and peaceful and their moods do not change suddenly. They’re less likely to feel worried, unhappy or get angry. For parents, children with more sleep are easier to live with.
Better performance (表现) in study
Sleep loss hurts attention, memory and brain development. Students with less sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and are likely to have lower grades. Students with enough sleep can be more energetic during the day and more willing to learn. They are also less likely to fall asleep in class and more able to understand what they learn.
In conclusion, starting school later helps students get a better night’s sleep. It improves their chances of eating, behaving and performing better.

Do you do team projects at school? I do a lot. I enjoy team projects because I like sharing ideas with other people. Of course, team activities aren’t always easy. You need to know how to work well together. Here are some suggestions to make team work easier.
Know the goals
Make sure everyone understands the goal of the project. If you’re doing a class project, you need to check the teacher’s instructions carefully and ask questions whenever something isn’t clear. There’s a popular saying: If you don’t know where you’re going, you probably won’t get there.
Assign (指派) roles
Everyone should have a role in the team. For example, there should be a leader who helps everyone make decisions. There might be a note-taker who writes down the team’s ideas during meetings, and a time-keeper to control the time. There might also be a fact-checker or a group speaker.
Divide the work
For large projects, the work can be divided into smaller tasks. Then you can choose tasks that you do well or enjoy. Of course, you shouldn’t always do the same task. It’s good to try new things, even if they’re difficult!
Make a plan
After you divide the work, write down a plan on paper. You can use a calendar to help you. List all the tasks and think about when each one must be finished. It’s important for everyone to follow the plan. And if you can’t finish your part on time, tell the others as soon as possible.
Try to be positive (积极的). Everything is easier when you’re enjoying yourself in the team.
42.What is the writer trying to do in the text?
A.Introduce the teacher’s instructions. B.Give information about smaller tasks.
C.Explain the method to do team projects. D.Describe the importance of creative ideas.
