(22-23七年级下·武汉东湖高新区·期中)Mr. King works in a shop and drives a car for his boss. He drives carefully and can keep cool in time of danger. His boss pays(支付) him a lot.
Mr. Baker, one of Mr. King’s friends, works in a factory outside the city. It’s far from his home and he has to go to work by bus. Sometimes he is late for work. His boss is angry about this, so he hopes to buy a car. However, Mr. Baker doesn’t have much money for a new car. After thinking for a few days, he decides to go to the flea market (跳蚤市场) to try his luck. At the market, he finds a beautiful but cheap car and wants to have a drive. The seller agrees. Then Mr. Baker calls Mr. King to help.
Mr. King examines (检查) the car and drives it away. It is five in the morning and there are few cars on the street. At first, he drives slowly and everything goes well. Then he drives fast. When he reaches a crossing, the lights are turning red. Her tries to stop the car, but he fail. And the car nearly hits(撞击) an old woman. A policeman tells him to stop, but the car goes on until it hits a big tree by the road. “Don’t you hear me?” the policeman asks angrily. “Yes, I do, sir.” says Mr. King, “But it doesn’t listen to me. Can it listen to you?”
