In the past, people could only get knowledge from books and teachers. It was the dream of students to listen to the lessons of famous teachers. Today, the Internet has changed it completely. MOOCS(Massive Open Online Courses)is a great mode (模式) of online learning, and it provides people with the world’s resources (全球资源).
First introduced in 2006, MOOCS became a popular mode of learning in 2012. Since then, some famous universities around the world have offered MOOCS on different platforms (平台). On November 2, 2019, according to the Ministry of Education, by August this year the number of Chinese people in MOOC has been about 270 million. China Daily reported that now China has built a wide network of courses, offering about 15,000 courses. The subjects are from physics and chemistry to traditional Chinese culture. “You can choose whatever you are interested in, and that’s why I use MOOCS very often,” said Wang Kerui from Beijing Normal University. For example, one course introduces China in English, it provides learners with wide areas, including Chinese traditional festivals and Chinese food. “The course helped me learn more about Chinese culture,” said one foreign learner.
What’s more, students can also learn more new things through interaction (互动), or review what they have learned in their spare time. Huang Yiwei, a high school student from Shandong province, is a typical example. When she didn’t fully understand some difficult math problems, Huang would discuss solutions with other students through MOOC platform. “It not only improved my math studies greatly, but also gave me a chance to interact with people from all over the world,” Huang said.
