Nation won't let virus stop anti-poverty (脱贫) work
By WANG XIAOYU/ZOU SHUO | China Daily
China is trying to reduce the influence of the novel coronavirus (新冠病毒) on the country's anti-poverty work and make sure to achieve the year's greatest goal, a government official said on Tuesday.
Although most poor areas are thought as low risk for the virus, the epidemic (疫情) has still seriously affected the life and production of local people. "The influence might be long-term and serious." said Su Guoxia, one central government official.
By Thursday, 14.2 million people from poor families had traveled to other areas to look for jobs, just 52 percent of last year's number, according to Su.
To reduce the influence of the epidemic, the government is developing all kinds of solutions to deal with present difficulties and problems.
Huang yan, another government official, said the central government has allocated (拨付) 113 billion yuan for poverty relief efforts this year, and all levels of local government have so far allocated more than 200 billion yuan. "The kind of money had risen by 21 percent every year from 2013 to 2019, and this year, the number will continue to increase," Huang said.
To make the remaining 52 national-level poor counties in the country shake off poverty this year, Huang said they will be given more support in policy, money, and technology to better understand their difficulties.
"We are sure to win two special wars this year," Su said.
