Try This
Fast and slow melting
How long do you think it takes an ice cube to melt (融化)? One hour? Five hours? Write down your best guess and then try this experiment.
1: Take an ice cube out of the freezer(冷冻拒)and put it on the plate: write down the time.
What happened?
The faster the heat transfers(传导) to the ice cube, the faster the ice melts. Heat from the air and from objects in the room, makes the ice cubes melt.
2: Wait for the cube to melt.
How long did it take? Was it more or less time than you thought?
You’ll need
• Four ice cubes of the same size
• Plate
• Watch
• Aluminum foil(铝箔)
•Two plastic cups
• Warm water
3: Take two more cubes and wrap(包裹)one in foil. Put them in cups and add the same amount of warm water.
Heat transfers faster from warm water to the ice than it does from warm air and objects in the roam to the ice. The foil makes it harder for heat to reach the ice. So do you know which ice cube melts most slowly?
4: Wait until the unwrapped cube has melt. What happened to the Wrapped cube?
1.From the experiment(实验), we can learn something about ________.
A.Geography B.Biology C.Chemistry D.Physics
2.We need to write down ________ during the experiment.
A.our best guess B.the melting time
C.the temperature of the water D.the weight of the cubes
3.Which of the following is most probably the result of this experiment?
A.The ice cube on the plate melted most slowly.
B.The unwrapped ice cube in warm water melted fastest.
C.The ice cube in your hand melted more slowly than the one on the plate.
D.The ice cube wrapped in foil melted faster than the unwrapped one in warm water.
