Purpose: to help students know a, an, some or any
· Direct students to the first row of the chart. Read the first set of sentences, in both columns, aloud. Then say " Vegetables. Rice. Which is countable and which is uncountable?" Elicit Vegetables is countable and rice is uncountable. Then say "Look at the sentences in the table. Can you use lots of with countable nouns, uncountable nouns or both?" Elicit or provide both. Read the next set of sentences aloud. Then say "Bananas. Bread. Which is countable and which is uncountable?" Elicit Bananas is countable and bread is uncountable. Then say "Look at the sentences in the table. Can you use some with countable nouns, uncountable nouns or both?" Elicit or provide both. Read the next set of sentences aloud. Say " Pancakes. Water. Which is countable and which is uncountable?" Elicit Pancakes is countable and water is uncountable. Say "Look at the sentences in the table. Can you use numbers, like two or three, with countable nouns, uncountable nouns or both?" Elicit or provide You can use numbers ONLY with countable nouns! You must use an expression of quantity, like two glasses of, with an uncountable noun like water.
