Function
Exercise 6
Purpose: to help students use expressions for eating out
· Direct students to the dialogue in Exercise 2. Have two students read it aloud. Ask " What does the waiter ask?" Elicit May I take your order? Direct students to the Key Expressions. Read them aloud, having students repeat after you. Point out that the model may takes the base form of the verb (take), not the infinitive form (to take). Also, point out the contraction I'd for I would.
· Have students practise saying the Key Expressions in pairs, role-playing a waiter / waitress and customer. Then have them switch roles for more practice. Check students' pronunciation of the Key Words.
Expansion: Don't Stop!
Note: Use this activity to give students more practice. Have students substitute the food and drinks in the Key Expressions, as they practise role-playing a waiter / waitress and customer. You can also bring in pictures of food or play food and use it to cue the students. Walk around the class, putting some pictures or play food by each pair of students. Explain that they should order that food. This is a good way to check students' comprehension and pronunciation of the Key Words.

Exercise 7
Purpose: to help students role-play a dialogue
· Have students get in groups of five. Direct students to the dialogue in Exercise 2. Say "Now choose a role, either the waiter or a member of the family. Role-play the dialogue". Monitor as students role-play the dialogue, offering assistance as needed. For more practice, have students swap roles.
