Warm-up
Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students know words to talk about language learning
· Ask“Is learning a language difficult?”Elicit an appropriate response, either yes or no, depending on each student's opinion. Direct students to the Key Words. Say the Key Words aloud, having students repeat after you. Say“With a partner, find examples of these exercise types in your Student Book”Monitor, offering help as needed. Go over this, having pairs say where the examples in the Student Book are. Students may say char-acters, page 7; conversation, page 9 (Example dialogue) ; grammar, page 7; listening, page 8; passage, page 12; pronunciation, page 7; reading, page 6; speaking, page 7; writing, page 13; vocabulary, pages 5 and 7.
· Then say“Use some of the words to complete the sentences on the right”. Monitor, offering help as needed. If students need support, have them work in pairs.

· As a follow-up, ask students to discuss what they think is difficult about learning a language. Encourage them to use the Key Words.
Exercise 2
Purpose: to help students answer questions based on an interview
· Direct students to the photos. Say“Look at the TV screen on the top. Read the text and look at the photo on the bottom. Are Tina and James from China?”Elicit no or probably not.Ask more proficient students to say how they know. Elicit or provide Because they are learning Chinese. You may skip this step if you feel students are ready to do the exercise.
