第一篇
Every night as the whole family fell asleep, Catalina would slide from home to the Cerro Tololo observatory (天文台). Papa was the mechanic (修理工)of the observatory, but during the day Papa would not allow her to get closer to the telescopes there. Only at night, Catalina was allowed in with the permission of the night staff.
Catalina loved helping to service the grand telescopes, the eyes that looked out into the universe. She wanted badly to be an astronomer someday. Adults never took her dream seriously. Even her father laughed, “Maybe you'll be hired to clean the offices. ”
One day in library, Catalina was reading a plant journal when she stopped at the picture of an unusual white flower. “It's called wild carrot. " A Spanish astronomer, who she saw several times in the observatory, stood behind her. “Pretty, isn't it? I’ve always liked that flower, because it looks like a galaxy. ”
“A spiral galaxy (漩涡星系), ”she whispered. Blond eyebrows climbed the scientist's forehead. “Indeed. And what is your name, young lady?” he asked.
"I'm Catalina Solis. ”
“Eduardo Solis's daughter? The mechanic?”
Yes. ”She gave a look at him. “I want to be an astronomer when I grow up. "
He laughed kindly, no longer meeting her eyes, and patted her on the shoulder. “Yes, of course, my dear. Work hard in school, and it could happen. ”
One evening, Catalina eyescanned the top of the observatory as usual. Suddenly she noticed the angle of the one-meter telescope was unusual. The telescope was pointed down, lower than she had ever seen it. Catalina learned from Papa how dangerous it would be. If left like it was, the telescope would move past its limit and be damaged. So without hesitation she got inside the observatory.

She saw the Spanish scientist buried in work at the observatory. Catalina hated to disturb him but at the thought of the lowered telescope and the possible toll it might take on the observatory, she summoned up all her courage and whispered, "one telescope was pointed down and might pass its limit." Startled by Catalina's sudden appearance and her words, the Spanish scientist stopped his work and informed all his coworkers of this perilous situation. Soon, the lowered telescope was repaired. Wearing the most radiant smile, the Spanish scientist said meaningfully, "Catalina, thank you for alerting us and you are right on the way to becoming a promising astronomer.“
The scientist’s words meant a lot to her. From that day on, Catalina stepped up her effort in pursuing her astronomer dream: she paid more frequent visits to the library, immersed herself in all journals and magazines, and asked all sorts of questions to the scientists working at the observatory and teachers at school. She passed exams with flying colors and stood out in Geography, Physics and Chemistry, which would prepare Catalina, not only intellectually but also professionally, as an excellent astronomer. Adults, especially her father, stopped their tease and took Catalina's dream seriously. They knew, not long from now, Catalina's astronomy dream would blossom in full like the unusual white flower on that plant journal!
I once saw a homeless man at a breakfast shop. He looked handsome, but his face was a bit dirty, and his clothes were new but had some mud stains. He was secretly staring at my bowl from 10 meters away outside the shop, as if he hadn't eaten sevral days. When I looked at him, he immediately turned his face away, pretending not to have been looking at my bowl, just like the once popular actor Xilige.
After leaving the restaurant about tens of meters away, I secretly looked back and was surprised to see him quickly walking into the breakfast shop and pouring the remaining breakfast scraps in his bowl into a plastic bag he had prepared beforehand. So, I thought he must be a fallen hero, after all, everyone encounters difficulties. Out of sympathy, I decided to buy him breakfast.

But when I offered to buy him breakfast, he shook his head directly and quickly avoided me. So I thought he must have felt embarrassed to let a stranger help him.
The next day, I intentionally had a meal at this breakfast shop again, and again, I found him there. But this time, his clothes were dirtier, and his face was dirtier too. So, I began to suspect whether this young man was a hero in trouble or someone who had just experienced mental health problems and ran away from home.

Para. 1. I tried to approach him, but he was always very alert and afraid. Every time I caught sight of him, he would immediately turn his ashamed head and avoid direct eye contact with me, with alerting eyes turning away or shameful head lowered. I could obviously tell that he was very cautious and did not want to interact with strangers. Despite my constant efforts to approach him and offer kind help, he seemed to be too scared to accept it. I wondered what kind of experiences he had gone through it was that made him so fearful of others.
Para. 2. Later, I posted on my social media expressing my concern for him. I shared my encounter with the homeless man at the breakfast shop and how I had tried to help him but in vain. I enquired if anyone knew of any organizations or resources that could assist him and others in similar situations. To my surprise, many people responded with suggestions and offers to help. Some even shared their own stories of homelessness and how they were able to overcome it. Through this experience, I realize that there are many kind-hearted people in the world who are willing to help those in need, and that social media can be a powerful tool for connecting people and resources.
