(时文)
Chinese New Year is an important festival for Chinese. On January 26th, people started celebrating it by writing “fu” — a Chinese word meaning “good luck”, on red paper and putting red lanterns inside the Beijing Olympic centre.
Chen Wencheng, a teacher from Peking University from Taiwan, China, also planned activities with a Winter Olympics volunteer (志愿者) team of Taiwan’s young people set in Beijing’s Zizhuyuan Park to celebrate the festival.

As for food, traditional food like dumplings, Beijing Roast Duck (北京烤鸭) was made for athletes (运动员) and guests during Chinese New Year so that they could “taste the festival”.
Natalie Taschlerova said that she was happy to eat dumplings in the Olympic Village, which were her favourite. The 20-year-old athlete shared her excitement with all people in the Beijing Olympic Village, saying that her experiences in China have been the best one she ever had.

Like Taschlerova, many foreign athletes have shared their pleasure by taking part in the New Year activities or posting pictures and videos online. British athletes have had fun learning to write Chinese words. Many people liked the video showing them writing with traditional Chinese writing brushes (毛笔). What’s more, athletes were also reported to have learnt how to make Chinese dumplings on the night before Chinese New Year.
