1. What’s your favorite festival?
2. Can you share with us some of its unique traditions or customs?
Spring Festival (the Chinese New Year) is my favorite.
People decorate home with couplets — vertical banners featuring two lines of poetry, paper cuttings and lanterns. Decorations are usually in bright red. “Basically, red decorations are to the Chinese New Year what Christmas trees are to Christmas”.
Traditional Chinese festivals
“A is to B what C is to D”
“A之于B正如C之于D”
◆Reading is to the mind what food is to the body.
读书之于心灵,犹如食物之于身体。
Traditional celebrations include enjoying the family reunion feast(大餐) known as nián yè fàn, watching the CCTV Chinese New Year's Gala(庆典;演出), exchanging red envelopes stuffed with 'lucky money,’ playing games of riddles, setting off fireworks, etc.
