——改编自The smart shopping cart
【文章】
In a bid to eliminate long lines in retail stores, startups like Caper and Veeve are developing smart shopping carts. These high-tech carts use cameras and sensors to detect what customers have placed in them. The built-in AI system can weigh items and charge customers when they exit the store after scanning their credit card or via mobile payment options such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. A green light on the cart indicates that the order is complete, and if there's any issue, a red light alerts a store employee to help.
While Amazon already has 24 Amazon Go stores using hundreds of cameras, sensors, and AI in the ceilings and shelves to eliminate checkouts, smart shopping carts offer an easier way to integrate technology into stores than transforming the entire store environment like Amazon does. Therefore, retailers are increasingly interested in deploying smart shopping carts, and there is speculation that Apple Store-like floating grocery store cashiers will assist customers instead of traditional stationary cashiers.
However, there are privacy concerns with the integration of AI and cameras in shopping carts. To address this, some startups like Caper are designing camera systems to point down into the cart, only capturing a customer's hand and part of their arm in view.
Nonetheless, these innovative startups aim to improve the brick-and-mortar shopping experience for customers. With real-time discounts and convenient payment methods, smart shopping carts might revolutionize how we shop in the future.
