The past few months had been emotionally overwhelming for the author, as she lost her father and sister-in-law in the midst of a pandemic. Family tensions grew as her middle brother turned to alcohol again, creating a messy situation. As the author grappled with the decision to return home to the US or stay in Japan with her husband, she sought advice from her best friend, Kris. While Kris suggested staying in Japan to support her family better, the author realized that she had neglected her well-being in the process. She established a new routine that included exercise, meditation, and limiting work-related calls and emails to designated times. Despite still being in touch with family members, the author learned to focus on her self-care while supporting them through difficult times. As she regained clarity and vision, she realized how important it is to prioritize her health and well-being. Overall, this article tells a story that many people may relate to—the difficulty of balancing personal struggles and family obligations. It emphasizes the importance of seeking help during challenging times and taking care of one's mental and physical health.
