常见的情态动词有:can, could; may, might; must, have to; dare, need, shall, will, should, ought to, would, be able to等。
1 can, could的用法
eg. 1 He can play the piano quite well now.
2 Tom could swim when he was five.
eg. 1 ---Can I go now?
---- Yes, you can.
2 You can’t eat your sandwiches here.
3 ---Could I borrow your book?
---- Yes, you can. /No, I’m afraid not.
eg. 1 Monkeys can be naughty.
2 He could be proud sometimes.
3 The weather there can be extremely hot.

注意:be able to 表能力时可以与can 互换,但在将来和完成时必须用be able to 结构;表经过努力而成功地办到了某个具体的事时只用be able to (相当于succeed in doing 或manage to do)。
eg. 1 Can you type?/Are you able to type?
2 I’m sure we shall be able to get you a job soon.
3 He has been able to finish the work on time.
4 Because he worked hard he was able to pass the exam.
