Grammar Object Clause 宾语从句 在复合句中作宾语的从句叫作宾语从句。上一模块中我们学习了that引导的宾语从句，在本模块中，我们来学习另外两类宾语从句——whether/if 引导的宾语从句 和疑问词引导的宾语从句。 3 1. whether/if引导的宾语从句 当表达不确定的概念时要用whether/if引导宾语从句。whether/if意为“是否”，在从句中不作成分，但不可以省略。一般情况下，whether与if可以互换使用。但if常用于口语，whether则多用于书面语。 Do you know whether/if she is a nurse? I don’t know whether/if there will be a bus any more. 4 whether/if引导宾语从句时，要注意三个方面，即连词、语序和时态。 (1) whether/if不能和that 或其他连词（副词）同时使用，也不能省略。如： 我不知道他今天是否会来这里。 I don’t know that whether/if he will come here today. I don’t know whether/if he will come here today. (2) whether/if引导宾语从句时，从句应用陈述语序。如： “Can you go shopping next weekend?” Lucy asks me. （合并为宾语从句） Lucy asks me whether/if I can go shopping next weekend. (3) whether/if引导的宾语从句，时态应和主句保持一致，即主句为一般现在时或一般将来时，从句可根据需要选用任一种时态；主句为一般过去时，从句则用过去时中的任一种时态。如： The girl asked her father whether/if he picked her up after school. I don’t know whether/if he will go fishing on Sunday. 【注意】whether与if通常情况下可以互换， 但在下列情况下通常用whether而不用if。 ①从句后有or not的情况。如： The teacher asks me whether I have finished my homework or not. ②从句前有介词的情况。如: My parents are talking about whether we will go to Hong Kong for travelling. ③从句在句首的情况。如: Whether you like it, I don’t mind. ④在动词不定式之前。如： I can’t decide whether to stay. ⑤若句中已有一个if引导的条件句，为了 避免产生混淆，应使用whether。如： He asked me whether, if there was enough time, I wanted to go to his office. ⑥用if会引起歧义时，只用whether。如： Could you tell me if you know the answer? 这句话有两种意思：“你能告诉我你是否 知道答案吗？”或“如果你知道答案请告 诉我好吗？”。如用whether可避歧义。 Could you tell me whether you know the answer?
