——改编自Are you a sharer?
In today’s world, sharing has become the norm. From an early age, we are taught to share our toys and our feelings. But with the rise of social media, oversharing is becoming a problem. Sharing too much on social media can lead to negative effects, making us less attractive to others.
So, what exactly is oversharing? It is when people disclose intimate details about their lives, whether it be in person or online. According to marriage therapist Carolyn Cole, this form of oversharing could come from a strong desire to connect with someone.
However, oversharing on social media can have consequences. Dr Christopher Hand, a cyberpsychology lecturer, suggests that sharing too many details could make people less sympathetic to you when things go wrong. This is because some people believe that sharing negative experiences attracts more negativity. Sadfishing, searching for sympathy by oversharing, is generally perceived as negative rather than a cry for help.
To avoid being seen as an oversharer, we should try to post positive content on social media. According to Gwendolyn Seidman PhD, it’s best to steer clear of whining, being negative, showing off, bragging, or flexing, especially about our love lives. If your date is going well, do you really need to share it with everyone?
So, how do we know if we are oversharing? It’s best to ask our friends in real life for feedback. They would probably be happy to tell us if our posts about our breakfast or our gripes about money are too much.
In conclusion, while sharing can be a good thing, oversharing is not. Posting too much on social media can lead to negative effects, making us less attractive to others. It’s important to consider what we post and how much we share, both online and in person.
