My father rested my head on the table,
pushed it farther into the pumpkin. After some
olive oil to help ease the friction and a final
pull with all my might, I stumbled back to the
ground—my head free and the pumpkin firmly
grasped by mom and dad.

One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
But when Dad pulled back the right turkey
leg, it slipped from his oily fingers. It popped
back to its original position, splattering Dad’s
sweater with gravy. As Dad jumped backward
to avoid the gravy, he accidentally dropped the
carving knife. It fell to the floor with a bang
and began chewing the table leg. Dad bent to
have a look and lost his balance. As he started to
fall, he tossed the turkey in the air. Fortunately,
he regained his footing just in time to grab the
falling turkey. Mama quickly unplugged the
carving knife and placed it on the table. “Turky
leg! Turky leg!” screamed Lonnie, bouncing in
his seat.
Paragraph 2:
As Lonnie yelled, we found a turkey leg
was missing. We looked around the room, under
the table and at each other. We looked at Fido,
who was standing at the gate licking his lips.
Little Lonnie began to cry softly for he was
the one who had expressed that he was most
thankful for turkey legs. Just then a brown drop
of turkey gravy dripped on the table. Everyone
looked upward. There, balanced on the top of the
chandelier, was the missing turkey leg. “Clumsy
ox,” muttered Mama under her breath.
