AMemorable Labor Experience
Last Saturday was May Day, when my class participated in the labor practice held in our
school vegetable base.
At dawn, we cycled to the base. On arrival, we were shown around by our teacher and then
assigned different tasks. Under the teacher’s patient instructions, we turned over the soil, weeded,
planted vegetables like tomatoes and eggplants and watered them. Looking at lines of young green
vegetables, the teacher cheerfully said we’d enjoy our self-grown vegetables soon, which filled us
with a sense of achievement.
The meaningful activity offered us a chance to learn about farming. Besides, though tired, I
did feel the pleasure and value of labor.

But these books were far from enough. To ensure children get access to more books, Sadiya
took pictures of the library and uploaded them online, calling on students to donate books to the
children library. Before long, hundreds of new and secondhand books poured in, but they needed
checking, classifying and arranging in order on the shelves, which took Sadiya, her uncle and
cousin a whole week. Tired as Sadiya was, a smile lit up her face when she pictured the scene

With everything ready, the library finally opened. Several children stepped in curiously,

what they liked, while others hesitated. Realizing they had trouble reading, Sadiya gathered them
