A survey conducted recently indicates that, for various reasons, most young people are unwilling to open Friends’ Circle to their parents, which has caused mixed feelings among parents.
Two main factors give rise to the phenomenon. For one thing, young people’s strong awareness of privacy protection leads to parents’ being denied access to their WeChat Moments. For another, the generation gap is probably the most powerful engine driving young people to make such a decision. Therefore, fearing their parents’ disapproval of everything they enjoy, young people prefer to block out them on Friends’ Circle.
Personally, I don’t follow the practice. Firstly, social media are instant paltforms to keep parents informed if our daily lives, thus narrowing the generation gap. Secondly, equipped with abundant experience, especially in social skills, parents can offer advice to us when we are facing problems. Additionally, if blocked out on social media, parents have a tendency to feel hurt and betrayed.
