Mr. Smith, a manager of a big company, needed to call one of his engineers about an important problem. He was greeted by a child saying in a low voice, “Hello?” Mr. Smith asked, “Is your dad home?” “Yes, ” said the small voice. “May I talk with him?” Mr. Smith asked. To his surprise, the small voice said, “No.” Then Mr. Smith asked the boy if his mum was there. The answer was still “Yes.”, but the boy would not like his mother to talk to Mr. Smith, either.
As he knew that it was impossible that such a young child would be left home alone, Mr. Smith decided to leave a message with the person who was watching over the child. “Is there anyone else there?” He went on to ask the boy.
“Yes, ” said the boy, still in a low voice, “a policeman. ”
Mr. Smith asked in surprise, “May I speak to the policeman? ” And the little voice told Mr. Smith that the policeman was busy talking to Dad and Mum. Mr. Smith felt surprised and suddenly he heard the sound of a helicopter at the other end of the phone. “What’s that noise? ”
“A helicopter, ” answered the little voice, “The search team have just arrived in it. ”
Now very worried, Mr. Smith asked, “What are they searching for? ”
Still in a low voice, the young child replied with a small laugh “Me! ”
