I still remember my first day at senior high. I had butterflies in my stomach, and the big school building seemed to look down on me. At my old school, I had known everyone. Here, I was nobody. Hundreds of students hurried past, all seeming to know where they were going.
The first problem was finding my classroom. I held the map in my hand, but the names of the buildings swam before my eyes. The map was so folded that its lines were already unclear. I walked past the canteen, the gym and a garden, and still Room 306 was nowhere to be found. When the bell rang, I could feel my face burning.
A gentle voice stopped me. “You look a little lost,” a girl said with a warm smile. “I’m looking for Room 306 too.” We climbed the stairs together, and she told me her name was Lin. She, too, was a new student, and she had spent the whole morning hunting for the right building. Knowing I was not the only lost one made me feel better at once. By the time we found the door, we were already talking like old friends.
Inside, the room was noisy and bright. Our teacher, Mr. Wang, asked us to introduce ourselves in English. His voice was warm, and he never hurried anyone. When it was my turn, I took a deep breath and told the class about my love for photography. To my surprise, several students nodded and smiled.
After class, two boys came over and asked me about starting a photography club. As I walked home that afternoon, the building no longer looked like a stranger. Senior high, I realised, was not a place to fear. It was a map waiting to be read, and on my first day, I had already found my new friends.
4. Why couldn’t the writer find Room 306?
A. He left the map at home.
B. He followed the wrong student.
C. He went into the wrong building.
D. He could hardly make out the map.
5. How did the writer feel when it was his turn to speak?
A. Proud and confident. B. Nervous but willing to try.
C. Calm and relaxed. D. Angry and unwilling.
6. What happened after class?
A. He gave a photography talk. B. Mr. Wang praised his English.
C. His hobby drew classmates’ attention. D. Lin invited him to the library.
7. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Value of a Map B. A Welcome Letter
C. My First English Lesson D. A Fresh Start with Friends
C
Starting senior high means new classrooms, new teachers and new rules, but researchers say the biggest change is often the one students cannot see: the people they sit with at lunch.
A team of scientists followed more than 300 new students during their first year. They found that students who quickly formed at least one close friendship reported feeling less worried and were more willing to join class activities. In contrast (相比之下), those who ate alone week after week were more likely to feel anxious, even when they did well in tests. The first month mattered most, because a friendship formed early tended to last the whole year.
It is not the number of friends that matters, but the quality. “A single trusted friend can act as an anchor,” explains one researcher who studies teenagers. “When students believe someone has their back, they feel braver about trying new things.” Friends also serve as mirrors: through them, young people learn who they are and who they want to become. Sharing a worry, a joke or even a spare pen can deepen that bond (纽带).
The study also found that family and friends do not work alone. Teenagers who could talk openly at home and had a friend at school were the happiest and most settled. In other words, a kind word at the family table and a friendly face in the classroom work together. Family gives students roots, while friends give them wings, and one without the other is far less powerful.
The message is simple. If your new school still feels strange, reach out. Join a club, share a concern, or simply sit beside someone new. The same study showed that small acts, such as asking a classmate to walk together, often start the longest friendships. Friendship, like a seed, grows slowly, but it is the best support a new student can find.
8. What did the study find about students with a close friend?
A. They always got higher test scores. B. They worried more about their grades.
C. They worried less, joined in more. D. They preferred to eat alone.
9. What does the underlined word “anchor” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. A support. B. A burden. C. A rule. D. An example.
10. What can we learn about family and friends?
A. Friendship can replace family. B. Home talk is the most important.
C. Combined support works best. D. Friends alone bring happiness.
11. What is the main message of the text?
A. Grades decide students’ happiness. B. Friends and family matter to students.
C. Reaching out helps build friendship. D. Close friends are hard to find.
D
At first sight, English can seem a very confusing language. There is no pine in pineapple and no apple in it either, and the plural of tooth is teeth while the plural of booth is not beeth. Newcomers cannot always tell whether a word follows a rule or simply breaks it. Yet behind the confusion, English hides a surprising amount of order.
Many words are built like building blocks, by putting smaller pieces together. If you know that the prefix re- means “again”, then reuse, rewrite and rebuild speak for themselves. The same logic works for the endings of words; once you know that -full means “full of”, helpful and useful become obvious. Knowing one root, port, meaning “carry”, unlocks a whole family: transport, import and export. Learn one piece and a word list stops being a wall and starts to become a web.
Words also carry history. A companion, for example, is literally someone you share bread with, while goodbye is a short form of “God be with you”. Such stories are not just curious. They make meanings easier to remember, because a word that feels hundreds of years old seems less like a stranger and more like a friend.
Experts say the most efficient (高效的) learners do not rely only on copying long word lists. They also meet new words repeatedly in meaningful reading and use them in speaking and writing. Reading ten short texts is more useful than copying one list ten times. This matters because a word is not a label to be copied; it is a tool used in real life.
English still has strange corners, and even native speakers cannot explain every rule. But the language is not as unreasonable as it first appears. Learn its patterns, and the words that once looked so foreign will slowly begin to make sense.
12. Why does the writer mention the words “transport, import and export”?
A. To show words share building blocks. B. To prove English has no rules.
C. To show English is confusing. D. To teach a foreign language.
13. Why are word stories helpful?
A. They remove every spelling mistake. B. They prove English is the oldest.
C. They show the history of Britain. D. They make meanings easier to remember.
14. How do the most efficient learners learn new words?
A. By copying long word lists. B. By using them in real life.
C. By memorising every rule. D. By translating word by word.
15. Which can be the best title for the text?
A. English: A Language Without Rules. B. How to Build a Word List.
C. The Hidden Logic of English Words. D. The History of English Bread.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Making Friends in a New School
Starting a new school can feel like standing in a room full of strangers. ____16____ The good news is that friendship is a skill, and a few simple habits can make it much easier.
A warm smile opens doors.
You do not need a clever opening line. A friendly smile and a simple “hello” are enough to make you look approachable. ____17____ People naturally mirror the smiles they see, so warmth often comes back to you, and most classmates are just as eager to meet someone new. A quick nod in the hallway works just as well.
____18____
Clubs, teams and after-school groups gather people around something they enjoy. When you work on a shared task, conversation happens naturally, and a common hobby is the easiest excuse to talk again. The activity gives you something to discuss even before you have found anything else in common. Whether it is a sports team or a music club, you already share one interest.
Listening speaks louder.
____19____ New friends often want to be heard rather than impressed. Asking a question and remembering the answer shows that you care, and that is how trust begins. Students who listen quietly are often the ones others choose to trust. Put your phone away and let them finish their story.
Friendship grows slowly.
Do not expect a best friend in a week. Some early conversations will not go well, and that is normal. ____20____ A true friendship is built on many small moments, not on a single meeting. If you stay patient and keep showing up, the right person will stay beside you.
A. A clever opening line is everything.
B. Time and patience do the real work.
C. Shared interests bring people together.
D. Everyone is hoping to make a new friend.
E. You do not have to talk the most to be liked.
F. A good friend must agree with everything you say.
G. A smile is the shortest distance between two people.

He held out a second umbrella, his ears red and his voice so low it was almost a ____27____. “I always carry two,” he said, “just in case.”
That was how I learned the truth. His family had moved around the world several times, and he had already lost ____28____ of too many friends. 58. 第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I started senior high, my father would ride his old black bicycle to pick me up every afternoon. The bicycle was worn and tired, and its bell made a dull sound instead of a clear ring. His back was slightly bent from years of riding, and I would always walk three steps behind him, head down, hoping none of my classmates would notice.
One rainy Tuesday, I finally lost my patience. “Dad, don’t come to pick me up again,” I said, staring at the wet ground. “My friends’ parents drive cars. Your bicycle is just… embarrassing (令人难堪的).”
His hand froze. He said nothing, only adjusted the raincoat, pulling it more over my shoulders than his own — the way he always did. The raincoat carried the smell of soap and factory dust. That night, I heard him coughing softly through the wall, but I was too proud and angry to care.
For the next week, I walked home alone. I told myself I had grown up now, free from embarrassment. But by Friday, the sky turned dark and a heavy rain began. I stood at the school gate, shaking in my thin jacket, when a familiar shape appeared through the rain.
It was Dad. His old bicycle made a low, sad sound with each push of the pedals. His hair was stuck to his forehead, and half his body was wet through. He smiled, though his lips were blue. But in his hand, he carried a dry raincoat — folded neatly, as if it were the most precious thing in the world.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I ran to him before I could think, rain beating against my face.

B

A. Proud and confident. B. Nervous but willing to try.
C. Calm and relaxed. D. Angry and unwilling.
6. What happened after class?
A. He gave a photography talk. B. Mr. Wang praised his English.
C. His hobby drew classmates’ attention. D. Lin invited him to the library.

【7题详解】

【答案】8. C 9. A 10. C 11. B
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍一项研究,说明好友对高一新生的作用,以及家庭与朋友的支持相辅相成。
【8题详解】

【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“When students believe someone has their back, they feel braver about trying new things.(当学生知道有人支持自己时,他们会更勇敢地尝试新事物。)”可知,一位值得信赖的朋友能够给予依靠与支撑,由此推知anchor表示“一种依靠、支撑”,因此画线单词与“A support”意义相近。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Teenagers who could talk openly at home and had a friend at school were the happiest and most settled. In other words, a kind word at the family table and a friendly face in the classroom work together.(那些能够在家里畅所欲言、并且在学校拥有朋友的青少年,是最快乐、内心最安定的。换句话说,餐桌上一句暖心的话语,和教室里一张友善的面孔,一同发挥作用。)”可知,家庭与朋友二者共同提供支持效果最好。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第三段中的““A single trusted friend can act as an anchor,” explains one researcher who studies teenagers. (“一个值得信赖的朋友就可以充当支柱,” 一位研究青少年的研究者解释道。)”以及第四段中的“Family gives students roots, while friends give them wings, and one without the other is far less powerful.(家庭给予学生根基,朋友给予他们翅膀,缺少其中一方,力量就会大打折扣。)”可知,文章重点阐述朋友和家庭对高中生而言都十分重要,二者共同给予学生支撑,因此“亲友对学生而言十分重要。”能够完整概括文章主线,适合作为主旨。
【答案】12. A 13. D 14. B 15. C
【解析】

【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Such stories are not just curious. They make meanings easier to remember.(这些故事不只是新奇有趣,它们让词义更容易记忆。)”可知,单词背后的故事能够降低记忆词义的难度。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Experts say the most efficient (高效的) learners do not rely only on copying long word lists. They also meet new words repeatedly in meaningful reading and use them in speaking and writing.(专家称最高效的学习者不会只依靠抄写长单词表,他们还会在有意义的阅读中反复遇见生词,并在说和写当中使用它们。)”以及“This matters because a word is not a label to be copied; it is a tool used in real life.(这点十分重要,因为单词不是用来抄写的标记,它是现实生活里使用的工具。)”可知,高效学习者会在真实场景当中运用单词。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“Yet behind the confusion, English hides a surprising amount of order.(但在这种混乱表象之下,英语藏着惊人的秩序。)”以及尾段中的“But the language is not as unreasonable as it first appears. Learn its patterns, and the words that once looked so foreign will slowly begin to make sense.(但这门语言并不像第一眼看上去那样毫无道理,掌握它的规律,曾经陌生的单词就会慢慢变得容易理解。)”可知,全文围绕英语单词内在的规律展开,介绍构词方式、词源故事与学习思路,因此“The Hidden Logic of English Words(英语单词隐藏的逻辑)”能够完整概括文章主线,适合作为最佳标题。

此处为固定搭配turn out to do sth.,意为“结果是、最后竟然”,所以用动词不定式to form。

Dear Chris,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling a bit stressed about the new high school life. Please don’t worry too much, because it’s quite normal to feel nervous in a new environment.
To improve your English, I suggest you read more English books and listen to English songs in your spare time. As for making friends, why not join some school clubs? It’s a great way to meet people with similar interests. Also, don’t be shy to talk to your classmates.
I hope you will adapt to the new life soon and enjoy your time here.
Yours truly,
Li Hua

【答案】One possible version:
I ran to him before I could think, rain beating against my face. I grabbed the dry raincoat from his cold hands, my eyes burning with shame. “Dad, I’m so sorry,” I whispered, my voice trembling. He looked surprised, then smiled gently, patting my shoulder with his rough hand. “It’s okay, son,” he said softly. As we rode home together, I sat behind him, holding tightly to his wet jacket. For the first time, I noticed how thin he had become, how his shoulders shook slightly in the cold wind. The dull bell no longer sounded embarrassing — it sounded like love.
That evening, I decided to do something I had never done before. I quietly walked into the kitchen and found Dad warming his hands by the stove. “Let me help you,” I said, taking the towel to dry his hair. He froze, then nodded with tears in his eyes. From that day on, I stopped caring what others thought. Every afternoon, I would run to the school gate, proudly sitting on the back of his old bicycle. The worn black bike became my favorite seat in the world, because it carried not just me, but my father’s endless love.
