She compared herself to her classmates. Some were amazing at sports or dancing. Some had lots of friends. Lily often thought, “Why can’t I be like them?” This question felt like a puzzle she had never solved. One day Lily found a puzzle game online—The Perfect You. Curiously, Lily clicked it and there was a puzzle piece with a green light on the screen. Suddenly, the puzzle piece spoke, “What makes you happy?” Lily gasped (倒吸气) and quickly closed the website, too scared to answer. She tried to forget about it, but that night, the shining puzzle piece appeared in her mind. Lily couldn’t sleep. The next morning, Lily thought for a long time and opened the game again. Then, she answered the question she saw on the screen yesterday, “I feel happy when I play with Meria.” To her surprise, the puzzle piece flew to its correct place. Then, a second puzzle piece appeared, shining even brighter, and asked, “What are you proud of?” Lily thought for a long time before answering. “I’m proud of myself when I help other kids.” The puzzle piece flew to its correct place just like the first one. Day by day, more puzzle pieces appeared, each asking a question. Sometimes it was easy to answer. Sometimes it wasn’t. Finally, the last puzzle piece appeared. It asked, “Do you feel left out sometimes?” Lily froze, “I don’t know.” But then she remembered when her friends worked together and didn’t include her. Then, Lily remembered her mom telling her, “It’s OK to feel alone sometimes. Everyone gets to choose their friends, but don’t give up on yourself!” Taking a deep breath, Lily said, “Yes, I feel left out sometimes, but I know it’s OK.” The whole puzzle shined and turned into a shiny mirror. Instead of showing someone “perfect”, the mirror reflected Lily’s own smiling face with the words: Be yourself. Lily felt warmth spread through her. She realized she didn’t need to be like Sarah, Jake, or Meria. She just needed to be herself. 24. Why did Lily often compare herself with her classmates at the beginning? A. She wanted to beat them in sports. B. She thought she was not good enough. C. She hoped to make more new friends. D. She planned to play the puzzle game with them. 25. How did Lily feel when she heard the puzzle piece speak at first? A. Interested. B. Scared. C. Excited. D. Curious. 26. When did Lily feel proud of herself? A. When she helps other kids. B. When she plays with Meria. C. When she wins a puzzle game. D. When she finishes her homework alone. 27. What can we learn from Lily’s story? A. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. B. Nothing is difficult if you set your mind to it. C. Comparison can steal your joy, so just be yourself. D. True happiness comes from having a lot of friends. 【答案】24. B 25. B 26. A 27. From talking with chatbots to using different apps, we use AI to complete tasks more quickly and easily. While we enjoy the convenience it brings, there may be some possible problems. Researchers have found that AI is not only changing how we talk, but also changing the way we think. If you use AI-powered chatbots (聊天机器人), you’re probably thinking that you’re both speaking the same language. But it’s not like that. Instead of processing texts like a human, an AI chatbot turns our messages into groups of numbers, like coordinates (坐标) on a map. And just as a paper map can’t show what a place really looks like, those numbers can’t fully express the meaning and feeling behind our language. Actually, the chatbot’s responses are not real English but a simulacrum (模拟物) of human language. What worries researchers is that English speakers are starting to talk more like chatbots. For example, one chatbot uses the word delve much more often than people do in writing. This may result from small mistakes or biases (偏见) in how AI is trained. Many of the workers, who check over large language model (LLM) outputs, come from countries where delve is commonly used. Because of this, the word appears more often in AI writing. Since this chatbot came out in late 2022, the use of delve in research papers has grown by ten times, as more writers turn to AI for help. Even more surprisingly, a study reported in Scientific American found that people have started using delve more often in daily conversations. This means it’s not just AI copying humans—humans are also copying AI without realizing it. In terms of language using, this change may not seem serious. After all, language is always changing over time. However, language also shows deeper changes in society. If AI can shape the words we use, it might also spread other kinds of biases such as gender biases or political biases, which are much harder to notice. We need to remember that AI tools are not completely neutral (中立的). Although they can bring us convenience, they hold the power to reshape our thinking. 28. The word “delve” appears more often in AI writing because ________. A. people want to make AI sound more like humans B. AI often chooses shorter and simpler words to use C. AI sometimes makes mistakes in choosing the words D. workers who check AI’s writing prefer to use the word 29. Which of the following statements would the writer agree with? A. AI helps to show humans what a place looks like. B. AI learns human language by using common words. C. AI might have certain biases in an unnoticeable way. D. AI understands the feelings behind humans’ words. 30. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To tell people to train chatbots in a special way. B. To encourage people to use AI tools to write more often. C. To remind people of the possible problems AI tools may bring. D. To teach people how to talk to chatbots in order to avoid biases. 【答案】28. D 29. C 30. 根据“Many of the workers, who check over large language model (LLM) outputs, come from countries where delve is commonly used. Ballard High School in Kentucky, US, has instituted (实施) a “bell-to-bell” cellphone ban this year. That means students cannot use their phones at all during class time, lunch breaks, or even between classes. The ban has brought an unexpected change to the school library. In the first month of the new term, students checked out 67 percent more books than the same period last year: 533 books in August 2024, and 891 in August 2025. Stephanie Conrad, the school’s librarian with 20 years of experience, was not fully surprised by the increase in book borrowing. She was excited to see the change. “Before the ban, during short breaks, kids would lose themselves in their phones, like being in a silent cellphone cocoon (茧), without any communication with peers,” Conrad said. “Now, they’re talking to each other, not isolated (单独的) online. They even come to talk to me about the books they love, which I haven’t seen for years.” However, not everyone supports the ban. “At the beginning, I was skeptical,” said Kallie Vickers, a 10th-grader. She said she and her classmates became dependent on screens, and never fully learned how to manage their emotions. Phones used to be their distraction (娱乐) and comfort during breaks. “Now, without that distraction, a lot of hyperactivity (过分活跃) comes out during class,” she said. Though she enjoys talking to friends more now, she believes kids need other outlets, like a free period, to replace the dopamine (多巴胺) they got from phones. “It’s a big adjustment (调整) for kids,” said Jean Twenge, a psychology professor. She said it takes time for teens to get used to the ban, as they are so used to having phones at hand, and teens always want more independence and trust. Still, Twenge strongly advocates (提倡) for bell-to-bell cellphone bans for academic (学术), social and mental health reasons. She also added that face-to-face talks at lunch help teens develop social skills, and less screen time brings mental health benefits. Many schools report fewer disciplinary (纪律的) problems after the ban. Twenge said the dopamine withdrawal (戒断) kids are experiencing is part of the process. “You’re training your brain to live without phones for hours, to learn how to focus. It’s a really important skill for the future,” she said. 31. Why does the writer use the numbers of book checkout in Paragraph 2? A. To introduce how famous the school library is among students. B. To show the positive influence of the cellphone ban. C. To explain why students love using cellphones. D. To advise other schools to set up cellphone bans in libraries. 32. What does the word “skeptical” in Paragraph 6 most probably mean? A. Confident. B. Quiet. C. Unlucky. D. Unbelieving. 33. Which of the following would Jean Twenge most probably agree with? A. Cellphone bans have more disadvantages than advantages for teens. B. Teens should learn new skills for the future without phones. C. Bell-to-bell cellphone bans are good for teens’ growth. D. Cellphones are the main reason for students’ poor grades. 34. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A. To call on schools to fight against cellphone bans. B. To inform readers of the influence of the cellphone ban. C. To warn readers of the harm of cellphones to teenagers’ studies. D. To explain how to help students get used to life without cellphones. 【答案】31. B 32. D 33. C 34. What do you usually do when you want to eat a hot meal but there is no microwave around? A new invention may help. It is called a self-heating lunch box. It looks like an ordinary lunch box, but it can heat food without a microwave or a stove. A self-heating lunch box has a special heating part under the food box. When users add water to it and press a button, the heating part starts working. After some time, the food becomes warm. Some lunch boxes also have a small screen that shows the temperature. In this way, people can enjoy a hot meal almost anywhere. This invention can be useful in many situations. People can use it when they go camping, travel or have a picnic. They do not need to look for a microwave. For people who travel far from home, a self-heating lunch box can make eating hot food much easier. Another good thing about the invention is that it can save time. People do not need to wait for a microwave or go to a restaurant to get a hot meal. They can simply heat the food in their lunch box. It may also help people enjoy homemade food more often because they can bring food from home and heat it when they are ready to eat. However, self-heating lunch boxes are not perfect. They may be heavier than normal lunch boxes because they have extra heating parts inside. Users also need to add the right amount of water. If they use too much or too little water, the lunch box may not work well. In addition, some self-heating lunch boxes cost more than ordinary ones. Even with these problems, the invention is becoming more popular. It shows that an invention does not always have to be something big or exciting. Sometimes, a small change to an everyday object can make our lives easier. 35. What can a self-heating lunch box do? _______________________________________________________ 36. C Artificial intelligence (AI) is now widely used in our daily lives. D High School’s Cellphone Ban (禁令): What Changes Has It Brought? 六、(47-49 题,每小题2分,50小题4分,共10分) 阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。 Would You Use a Self-Heating Lunch Box?
