Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen is an Olympic champion. Her fans call her “Queen Wen”. She will play at the upcoming China Open in Beijing.
Her comeback was not easy. In July 2025, Zheng had surgery (手术) because of an elbow injury. She tried to play again that September, but the pain came back. She had to rest more until February this year. She did not compete again for a long time.
The road back was long and rocky. Zheng was once No. 4 in the world. But after a long break, she dropped out of the top 100. So early this month, she had to win three qualifying rounds (资格赛) to enter the U.S. Open. It was very hard for her to accept the change.
But Zheng did not give up. She worked her way up, one match at a time. After qualifying, she beat two of the world’s top players. In both matches, she fell behind 0-5 in one set. But she kept fighting and came back to win the set at last. Although she lost in the quarterfinals, she had found herself again.
“Every loss hurts,” she said. “But in sport, you just need to stay humble and keep fighting.” Sometimes, the road back to the top begins with hitting rock bottom and finding the strength to bounce back.
23. What will Zheng Qinwen do next according to the passage?
A. She will take part in the China Open in Beijing.
B. She will stop playing tennis because of the pain.
C. She will win first place in the U.S. Open.

How fast can the world’s fastest man run? In 2009, Usain Bolt set the 100-metre sprint (短跑) world record of 9.58 seconds. So far, no one has broken this record. But this August, Tiangong Ultra, a Chinese humanoid robot (人形机器人), beat it by 0.94 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. A machine ran faster than the world’s fastest runner!
“But shouldn’t machines run faster than humans anyway?” you may ask. What is the purpose of this race?
The answer is not only about speed. According to Dennis Hong, an engineering professor, the real achievement is not just breaking a human record. The hard part is making a two-legged robot run fast without falling. It is easy for you to run fast and keep your balance. But for a robot, it is very difficult and takes a lot of work!
Still, the robot was far from perfect. Tiangong Ultra could not slow down on its own after crossing the finish line. Instead, it crashed into a cushion and fell over to stop. But even this failure was valuable. It showed engineers what still needed work.
Over 2,000 humanoid robots took part in 51 events, including running, long jump, table tennis and boxing. Each event tested a different ability. For example, football robots had to play as a team. A tennis robot needed to think fast when it played against a human player. It had to decide where to move and when to hit the ball.
The ability to run fast or play tennis may not seem useful for a humanoid robot. But every gain in speed, balance and control helps them one step closer to better helping people in the real world.
27. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By asking a question and giving an example.
B. By telling a funny story about robots.
C. By showing a group of numbers directly.
D. By sharing his own idea about running.
28. Which of the following was a problem for Tiangong Ultra during the race?
A. It could not work together with other robots.
B. It spent too much time deciding where to move.
C. It could not stop safely on its own.
D. It lost balance and fell many times while running.
29. What can the World Humanoid Robot Games help engineers do?
① Test different abilities of robots ② Find ways to make robots better
③ Make robots break more records ④ Make robots take the place of people
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②④ D. ③④
30. What is the writer’s purpose of writing this article?
A. To show robots can do everything that humans cannot do.
B. To show humanoid robots can already work well for people.
C. To introduce all kinds of games at the robot competition.
D. To explain why robot sports are important for the future.

But Zheng did not give up. She worked her way up, one match at a time. After qualifying, she beat two of the world’s top players. In both matches, she fell behind 0-5 in one set. But she kept fighting and came back to win the set at last. Although she lost in the quarterfinals, she had found herself again.

Growing with Changes
There are a lot of changes in our lives which make us better. I used to be shy and didn’t dare to speak in front of my classmates. I always kept quiet and never took part in class activities.
Last month, my English teacher asked me to share my reading report. I felt so nervous that I wanted to refuse her. She smiled and encouraged me. Then I practiced again and again. On that day, I finished my sharing smoothly. My classmates cheered for me. Now I’m not afraid of speaking in public any more.
