Despite that, encouraged by her mother to believe that she could succeed in any job, she relied on her talents and knowledge to achieve what few women of her time even dared to dream about: becoming an aviator (飞行员). Quimby became interested in aviation in 1910 when she attended the International Aviation Meet at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, where she met John Moisant, a well-known aviator and operator of a flight school. Quimby learned to fly at the Moisant Aviation School. After four months and thirty-three lessons, Quimby applied for and won her pilot’s licence (执照) on August 2, 1911, which made her the first American woman to receive a pilot’s licence from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in France. In late 1911, Quimby decided to attempt a sea crossing from England to France. In March 1912, she sailed for England to begin preparations for her flight. In thickening fog on the morning of April 16, Quimby successfully crossed the sea, landing at Hardelot, about 25 miles south of her original destination. However, her hopes for front-page reports never came true, and her achievement went largely unnoticed in the next day’s papers. Despite the disappointment, Quimby loved to fly and continued competing in air events. As one of the country’s few female pilots, Quimby gradually drew crowds whenever she competed in cross-country events and races. She showed her talents around the United States and even went to Mexico City to participate in aviation activities held in honor of the inauguration (就职典礼) of President Francisco Madero. Besides her achievement in aviation, Quimby also fought for many women’s issues. For example, she pushed for a broadened role for women aviators. One woman impressed by Quimby was Amelia Earhart, who said, “Quimby was a pioneer who helped challenge traditional views about women’s roles in society and who made it possible for them to achieve their dreams.” 4. What is the significance of Quimby’s getting a pilot’s licence? A. It helped update safety standards in aviation. B. It redefined the limits on women in aviation. C. It showed the advantage of natural talents. D. It started her long friendship with Moisant. 5. Why was Quimby disappointed after her sea crossing? A. She got totally ignored by the media. B. She experienced the extreme weather. C. She missed the original destination. D. She had to continue competing soon. 6. What does paragraph 4 convey about Quimby? A. Her challenges in cross-country races. B. Her skills in aviation competitions. C. Her reputation as a woman pilot. D. Her duty in international aviation. 7. What is Amelia Earhart’s attitude towards Quimby? A. Confused. B. Admirable. C. Doubtful. D. Opposing. C Autonomous taxis are taking over San Francisco. Waymo, which launched the service only in 2023, may now have over a fifth of the city’s ride-share market. The rise of robotaxis raises a question: when tech automates a profession, what happens to human workers? You might think that drivers are likely to lose their jobs. In fact, the rise of autonomy has played out in two different ways. First, it has raised overall taxi demand in San Francisco, limiting job losses. Second, it has targeted a profitable part of the market, attracting customers who want something new and are willing to pay a bit more for it. Take the size of the market first. According to official data, in 2024, the number of people in San Francisco working for “taxi service” companies grew by 7% compared to 2023, and total pay in the industry rose by 14%. Figures from the city indicate the number of regular taxi trips is about the same as last year. It can still be hard to find a yellow taxi at peak times. “As self-driving cars enter the marketplace, they will actually expand the market,” David Risher, chief executive of Lyft, a human-powered taxi company, has predicted. The extra riders come from different places. Waymo claims that people visit San Francisco to take its taxis. More probably, residents are using private cars less. When the choice was a Lyft or an Uber, people may have preferred to drive themselves, because the risk of having to get into an awkward conversation was too great. In a driverless taxi you can sit in silence. Since Waymo’s launch, the number of private cars, adjusted for population, has fallen. Now, overall spending on taxis appears to be growing especially quickly compared with that in other cities. Autonomous taxis are still a long way from being a mass-market product. Waymos are comfortable and generally clean, but they are perhaps 20%-40% more expensive than a Lyft or an Uber. They are also slow; you cannot tell a robot to “step on it!” Over time, robotaxi companies may iron out these flaws by, for example, cutting prices, but do not expect autonomous taxis to take over the market soon, in San Francisco or anywhere else. 8. How does the author look at the growth of robotaxis in San Francisco? A. It changes the way taxi drivers work. B. It increases customers’ transport costs. C. It doesn’t hurt taxi drivers as expected. D. It doesn’t attract customers as predicted. 9. What can we say about Risher’s prediction? A. It reflects his career goal clearly. B. It agrees with market observations. C. It is based on his company’s business. D. It focuses on innovative car technology. 10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Ways Waymo uses to attract riders. B. The impact of Waymo on private car sales. C. The competition among leading taxi companies. D. Reasons for the expansion of the robotaxi market. 11. What do the underlined words “iron out these flaws” in the last paragraph mean? A. Meet these standards. B. Beat these companies. C. Solve these problems. D. Follow these instructions. D Birds that are active during the day sing later into the night in areas with heavy light pollution, according to research by Brent Pease of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Neil Gilbert of Oklahoma State University. Analyzing more than 180 million bird vocalizations (歌声) worldwide alongside satellite imagery, they found that under the brightest skies, birds extended daily activity by nearly an hour. Their paper, “Light pollution prolongs avian (鸟类的) activity”, was published in Science on Aug. 21. The project came about in Pease’s effort to excite undergraduates about birds. Two years ago, he installed a microphone to broadcast local birdsong on campus. Later, he adopted BirdWeather devices, which use Wi-Fi, GPS, sensors and AI connected to the BirdNET database, enabling real-time detection of bird species. This opened new opportunities to study not only where birds are found but also how they behave continuously. Just as trail cameras revolutionized mammal studies decades ago, BirdWeather and BirdNET now allow large-scale behavioral studies of birds. Using machine learning, BirdNET transforms recordings into spectrograms (声谱图) that identify avian species against a database of over 6,000. This allows analysis of continuous audio data that would otherwise take lifetimes to process. Pease and Gilbert were the first to apply and analyze the BirdWeather data in this way. They have many research options, but first they focused on responses to light pollution. Pease noted, on average birds stayed active an hour longer. Actual times varied by species. The researchers then asked why. A key factor turned out to be photoreceptor sensitivity Species with proportionally larger eyes responded more strongly to artificial light than those with smaller eyes. Whether this shift benefits or harms birds remains uncertain. Extended activity may increase opportunities for feeding and mating, but reduced sleep could hurt long-term health. Since 2021, BirdWeather has collected over 1.4 billion vocalizations from 11,000 locations worldwide. Pease called the project “citizen-science at its best”, noting that a tool built for backyard birdwatchers has become a powerful engine for wildlife research. He and Gilbert plan to continue applying the technology to explore the impacts of human forces, particularly light pollution, on global bird populations. 12. Why did Pease set up a microphone on campus initially? A. To support a global study. B. To document local noise levels. C. To measure effects of artificial light. D. To inspire students’ curiosity about birds. 13. What key advance did BirdWeather and BirdNET bring? A. Identifying unknown species worldwide. B. Processing continuous bird behavior at scale. C. Replacing fieldwork on birds with satellite tracking. D. Tracking the regular movement of birds from one place to another. 14. Which feature best explains birds’ varied reactions to light? A. Relative eye size and sensitivity. B. Developmental background. C. Geographic range. D. Voice strength. 15. What’s the best title of the passage? A. Citizen Science in Wildlife Research B. How Artificial Light Affects Birds’ Eyes C. Light Pollution Keeps Birds Active Longer D. But small steps have the power to change this. Small steps are the building blocks of great things. ___17___ It doesn’t happen in a day. It changes quietly and steadily underground. Every day, it absorbs sunlight and water, pushing its roots deeper into the soil, until one day, it stands tall and strong, a proof of patience and persistence (坚持). Our goals are like that seed — they need time and daily care. ___18___ For example, if your goal is to improve your English, reading a short passage every day is better than trying to finish a thick book in one weekend. The former builds a habit; the latter often leads to burnout. Consistency is key, and small steps make consistency possible by keeping the task manageable. Another advantage of small steps is that they reduce anxiety. When you take on a huge task, it’s natural to feel nervous. We may even give up before starting. ___19___ You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment with each small win, which will motivate you to keep going. This positive cycle can turn even the most difficult goal into something manageable. Small steps teach a growth lesson. They remind us that progress, not perfection, is what matters. So, the next time you’re faced with a big goal, don’t be afraid to start small. ___20___ A. Small steps help form good habits. B. However, breaking it into small steps helps. C. Work on the huge task a little bit daily. D. Think about how a seed grows into a tall tree. E. But it’s easy to overlook the power of small, consistent steps. F. Small steps can by no means change the situation. G. Remember, every great journey begins with a single step. One afternoon, as I was diving into life’s deeper questions with my students, a thoughtful boy named Jack raised his hand. “Why do so many people feel lost?” he asked. ____21____ their curiosity, I decided to show them the ropes through experience rather than simply ____22____. “Follow me,” I said, leading them toward the nearby ____23____. The annual Mini Marathon was about to begin, and the streets were lined with enthusiastic audience. Among the crowd, a father and his young son, Alex, stood ready at the starting line. For months, Alex had been training diligently, dreaming of winning the race and bringing home the trophy (奖杯). Alex’s father, Mark, had always supported his son’s passion for running. He had run marathons himself in his younger days and was proud to see his son follow in his footsteps. As the race officials gave the final instructions, Mark placed a reassuring hand on Alex’s shoulder. “Remember, it’s not just about winning,” he said. “It’s about giving your best and enjoying the journey.” The starting gun fired, and the runners took off. Alex rushed ahead, his legs moving swiftly — and his heart pounding with determination. Mark followed closely behind, keeping an eye on his son. The first few kilometers flew by, and Alex maintained a steady pace, feeling confident and strong. As they approached the halfway mark, Alex noticed a disturbance on the side of the road. A small crowd had gathered around something on the ground. Curiosity sparked, Alex slowed down and saw a tiny, injured squirrel lying in the grass. Its leg was twisted at an odd angle, and it was obviously in pain. Without hesitation, Alex stopped and knelt beside the animal. Mark, who had been a few steps behind, quickly joined his son. “What’s going on?” he asked, concerned. “It’s an injured squirrel,” Alex replied, his voice filled with sympathy. “I can’t just leave it alone.” Mark looked at his son, torn between the race and the animal. “Do you want to help it?” he asked gently. Alex nodded, his eyes determined. “Yes, I do. It’s the right thing to do.” Mark smiled, proud of his son’s decision. “Then let’s take care of it. We can always finish the race later.” Together, they carefully picked up the squirrel and carried it to the medical aid station. The doctor examined the squirrel and provided immediate treatment. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Dad, we have no hope of winning anymore,” Alex said, standing on the track with disappointment. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026-2027学年第一学期学情调研适应性练习 高二英语 (满分:150  考试时间:120分钟) 友情提示:1. 1. A. Confused. B. Admirable. C. Doubtful. D. Opposing. 4. B 5. A 6. C 7. Despite the disappointment, Quimby loved to fly and continued competing in air events.(然而,她希望登上报纸头版的愿望落空了,次日的报纸对她的这一成就几乎未作报道。 故选A。 根据第四段“As one of the country’s few female pilots, Quimby gradually drew crowds whenever she competed in cross-country events and races. She showed her talents around the United States and even went to Mexico City to participate in aviation activities held in honor of the inauguration (就职典礼) of President Francisco Madero.(作为美国为数不多的女飞行员之一,Quimby每次参加越野赛事和比赛时,都会逐渐吸引大批观众。 根据最后一段“Quimby was a pioneer who helped challenge traditional views about women’s roles in society and who made it possible for them to achieve their dreams.(Quimby是一位先驱,她帮助挑战了社会对女性角色的传统观念,使女性能够实现自己的梦想。)” B。 C Autonomous taxis are taking over San Francisco. C 9. B 10. D 11. 根据第二段“You might think that drivers are likely to lose their jobs. In fact, the rise of autonomy has played out in two different ways. First, it has raised overall taxi demand in San Francisco, limiting job losses. 根据第三段““As self-driving cars enter the marketplace, they will actually expand the market,” David Risher, chief executive of Lyft, a human-powered taxi company, has predicted. 和上文“in 2024, the number of people in San Francisco working for “taxi service” companies grew by 7% compared to 2023, and total pay in the industry rose by 14%. 根据第四段“The extra riders come from different places. 根据上文“Autonomous taxis are still a long way from being a mass-market product. Waymos are comfortable and generally clean, but they are perhaps 20%-40% more expensive than a Lyft or an Uber. They are also slow; you cannot tell a robot to “step on it!” D Birds that are active during the day sing later into the night in areas with heavy light pollution, according to research by Brent Pease of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Neil Gilbert of Oklahoma State University. BirdWeather: A Revolutionary Tool for Bird Watching 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第二段第一、二句“The project came about in Pease’s effort to excite undergraduates about birds. Two years ago, he installed a microphone to broadcast local birdsong on campus.(这个项目的诞生,源于Pease为激发本科生对鸟类的兴趣所做的努力。 根据第二段中“This opened new opportunities to study not only where birds are found but also how they behave continuously. Just as trail cameras revolutionized mammal studies decades ago, BirdWeather and BirdNET now allow large-scale behavioral studies of birds.(这为研究鸟类的分布情况以及它们的持续行为提供了新的机遇。正如几十年前的追踪相机改变了对哺乳动物的研究一样,如今BirdWeather和BirdNET使得对鸟类的大型行为研究成为可能)”以及第三段中“Using machine learning, BirdNET transforms recordings into spectrograms (声谱图) that identify avian species against a database of over 6,000. This allows analysis of continuous audio data that would otherwise take lifetimes to process.(借助机器学习技术,BirdNET会将录音转化为声谱图,再通过比对一个包含6000多种鸟类的数据库来识别鸟类物种。 根据第四段中的“A key factor turned out to be photoreceptor sensitivity (光感受器敏感度). Species with proportionally larger eyes responded more strongly to artificial light than those with smaller eyes.(一个关键因素被证明是光感受器敏感度。 故选A。 根据第一段“Birds that are active during the day sing later into the night in areas with heavy light pollution, according to research by Brent Pease of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Neil Gilbert of Oklahoma State University.(根据南伊利诺伊大学卡本代尔分校的Brent Pease与俄克拉荷马州立大学的Neil Gilbert的研究,在光污染严重的区域,白天活跃的鸟类会将鸣叫(活动)延续到更晚的夜晚)”并结合全文内容可知,文章核心围绕一项研究展开,该研究探讨了光污染如何延长鸟类的活动时间,同时介绍了研究采用的技术(BirdWeather和BirdNET)及研究发现。 The Power of Small Steps In a world where we often celebrate big achievements and overnight success. ___16___ Many of us set grand goals, only to feel discouraged when progress is slow or invisible, failing to realise that lasting success is rarely built in a flash. 16. E 17. D 18. A 19. B 20. Some people argue that AI will kill human creativity. They fear that people may simply rely on AI rather than create works on their own. Others hold the opposite view that AI can serve as an inspiration source and stimulate our new ideas. From my perspective, AI is nothing more than a useful tool. It can offer rich materials for creation, yet true creativity comes from human feelings and thoughts. We should take advantage of AI instead of letting it replace human creation. With the rapid development of technology, AI is capable of producing paintings and articles within a short time, which has caused a heated debate. Some people hold the view that AI will kill human creativity, which can produce finished works in seconds. Having seen AI generate poems and paintings easily, they worry people will stop thinking independently. However, others argue that AI can inspire our ideas. Used as a helpful tool, AI offers various references, which help creators break through thinking limits. From my perspective, AI is just a tool. It is human minds that decide the direction of creation. We should make good use of AI instead of relying on it blindly. 词汇积累 (参考范文一) 导致:cause→provoke 认为:argue→claim 来自:come from→stem from 代替:replace→take the place of 2. Some people argue that AI will kill human creativity. Some people argue that AI, which many people are worried about, will kill human creativity. 1】 With the rapid development of technology, AI is capable of producing paintings and articles within a short time, which has caused a heated debate.(运用了which引导非限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】Others hold the opposite view that AI can serve as an inspiration source and stimulate our new ideas.(运用了that引导同位语从句) 第二节(满分25分) 47. On a cool autumn morning, the small town of Willow Creek cheered with excitement. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The doctor examined the squirrel and provided immediate treatment. He gently set the broken leg and bandaged it carefully, saying that the little animal would recover soon with proper care. Alex watched with relief, a warm feeling rising in his heart. When the doctor promised to look after the squirrel until it was fully healed, Alex nodded gratefully and thanked him sincerely. Before leaving, he gently touched the squirrel’s head, whispering softly that it would be fine. Then he and Mark rushed back to the track, hoping to continue the race. “Dad, we have no hope of winning anymore,” Alex said, standing on the track with disappointment. Mark placed his hand on Alex’s shoulder and smiled gently. “Son, remember what I told you? It’s not just about winning. What you did today meant more than any trophy. I’m proud of you.” Hearing this, Alex’s eyes lit up with pride. Just then, the race announcer called their names. To their surprise, the organizers awarded them a special prize for their kindness. Surrounded by warm applause, Alex realized that helping others was the real victory, which he would treasure forever. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 恢复:recover/pull through ②授予:award/grant 情绪类 ① 宽慰:relief/reassurance ② 感激地:gratefully/with gratitude 【点睛】【高分句型1】When the doctor promised to look after the squirrel until it was fully healed, Alex nodded gratefully and thanked him sincerely.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句和until引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】Surrounded by warm applause, Alex realized that helping others was the real victory, which he would treasure forever.(运用了过去分词短语作状语、that引导的宾语从句以及which引导的非限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
