C
A hobby is more than just “something fun to do”. It is an activity you do because you enjoy it and want to get better at it. But finding a good hobby is not always easy.
First, think about your real interest. Do you really like this activity, or are you only doing it because your friends do it? For example, you may like playing basketball because you feel happy when you run. A good hobby should make you want to keep doing it, even when you make mistakes (错误).
Second, think about time. Schoolwork is still important, so you need to plan your time well. You can make a simple plan: finish homework first, then play the piano for twenty minutes, or read English stories for fifteen minutes.
Third, think about place and things. You can use the school playground or the library. Also, a free app or a book can be enough.
We should also think about the people around us. A good teacher or classmate can help you when you feel frustrated about your hobby. Maybe you cannot play a song well. You may feel bad and want to stop, but they can tell you not to give up.
In the end, the best hobby is not “many new hobbies”, but the one you keep for a long time. Your small interest can grow into a special skill.
21. What does the writer think you should do first before spending time on your hobby?
A. Tidy up your room.
B. Read the storybooks.
C. Finish your homework.
D. Call your friends to join in.
22. What does the word “frustrated” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A. Happy. B. Sad. C. Excited. D. Tired.
23. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. How to find a good hobby
B. Why we need a good hobby
C. What a good hobby can bring us
D. When we should enjoy our hobby
C 22. B 23. A
根据“Schoolwork is still important, so you need to plan your time well. You can make a simple plan: finish homework first, then play the piano for twenty minutes, or read English stories for fifteen minutes.”
根据“A good teacher or classmate can help you when you feel frustrated about your hobby.”
故选A。
D
Everyone knows that arts have many benefits. They can help kids control their hands better and be more creative. They can even help kids understand their feelings better and learn more about themselves. But here’s something you might not know: arts can actually improve kids’ self-esteem (自尊). As a new middle schooler, it’s easy to compare yourself with others and feel like you’re not good enough. A new study suggests that taking part in arts activities is an easy way for kids to feel better.
The study looks at 6,209 eleven-year-old kids. These kids report how often they engage (参与) in arts activities at home, such as playing or listening to music, drawing or painting, and reading for enjoyment. The result? Kids who do these activities most days have much higher self-esteem than those who do them less often. When comparing daily art lovers with kids who take part in the arts less than once a month, the difference in confidence (自信心) is twice as big!
For reading, as well as music-playing or listening, the rise in self-esteem needs one thing—kids have to do it with their parents at least once or twice a week. Painting and drawing, however, help build higher self-esteem whether parents are there or not. The act of creating art may help kids feel special and proud, with or without their parents.
The best part of the findings is that kids don’t need to be good at arts to feel better. Teachers in the program studied the kids’ art skills, and “being good” didn’t matter. What counts is just doing it. For example, when you draw a funny cat with too big eyes, you might think, “That’s my cat—no one else could make it like this.” That feeling of being special is what builds confidence.
Arts aren’t just about self-esteem. Other studies show they can also help with grades and make kids smarter. So next time you worry, “I’m not good at this,” grab a pencil, turn on the music, or open a fun book. Just by joining in the arts activities, you’re already building confidence that will stick with you, no matter what the future brings.
24. According to the passage, arts can help kids ________.
A. understand more about their parents B. feel better about themselves
C. become more popular among friends D. stop comparing themselves with others
25. Which of the following helps build higher self-esteem even without parents?
A. Painting and drawing. B. Playing or listening to music.
C. Reading for enjoyment. D. Giving performances on stage.
26. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The feeling of being special pulls students away from others.
B. Top students take part in arts activities more often than others.
C. Engagement in the arts, not ability, is key to stronger confidence.
D. Parents, not teachers, should make arts activities more enjoyable.
27. Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. Reading Makes a Full Man B. Arts matter for Kids’ Self-Esteem
C. Confidence lies in Family Support D. Skills in Arts Bring Better Grades
B 25. A 26. C 27. B
根据文章第一段“A new study suggests that taking part in arts activities is an easy way for kids to feel better.”
根据文章第三段“Painting and drawing, however, help build higher self-esteem whether parents are there or not.” 故选A。
根据文章第四段“Teachers in the program studied the kids’ art skills, and ‘being good’ didn’t matter. What counts is just doing it.”

Sophie, a 13-year-old girl, hoped to brighten the lives of patients (病人). She started her “Sophie’s Care Bags” after seeing her grandfather in the hospital.
“She saw him suffering (忍受) a lot of pain, getting tired and lying on the bed,” Sophie’s mom explained. “Every day her grandpa needed to have treatment for nearly two hours. Sophie is such a kind girl that she wanted to do something to help him and other patients.”
Sophie studied care bag ideas from the Internet. And her parents helped to bring her idea to life. They went shopping for comforting items, like blankets, pillows, cozy socks, bowls and candies. Later, Sophie also put playing cards and chess sets into the bags.
“As words spread, we received a lot of donations (捐赠) from neighbors, friends and family. So Sophie was able to put a little bit more in there and had more money to do it again,” her mom said.
Sophie made ten care bags for her first set and the first bag went to her beloved grandpa.

Every Tuesday afternoon, my school has a special reading time. My class goes to read with younger students. I am in Grade Seven, and I get a boy named Leo. The first time I see Leo, he sits in the library by himself quietly. He holds a book, but he does not open it. He keeps his head down and does not look at me or the other children.
I try many things to make him talk. I bring funny stickers (贴画). I show him a small car. I ask him easy questions like “What games do you like?” But he only shakes (摇) his head. I feel a little worried, but I do not want to give up.
One day, I sit next to him and say, “Leo, sometimes when I meet new people, I am afraid to speak. I think they will laugh at me. Do you ever feel like that?” For a short time, he is still. Then he looks up at me. His eyes are wet.
“I feel like that every day,” he whispers (低语). “The other kids think I am strange (奇怪的).”
“I don’t think you are strange,” I say. “I like reading with you. You can talk to me any time.”
After that, Leo begins to smile a lot. He answers my questions and even tells me funny stories. During reading time, he now sits in the front row. He still speaks softly, but he knows he has got a friend, and so do I.

A. Happy. B. Sad. C. Excited. D. Tired.
23. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. How to find a good hobby
B. Why we need a good hobby
C. What a good hobby can bring us
D. When we should enjoy our hobby

“Her grandpa felt proud of the work she was doing,” recalled Sophie’s mom.
Sophie’s Care Bags serves as an example of what we can do to help others. She is going to carry on what she has started, “We just want to keep it going and make a difference in people’s lives.”
