What does it mean to travel somewhere new and not be able to see it?That question led me on
a 10-day journey through northern India with Traveleyes,a British tour company that pairs visually
impaired((受损的)travelers with sighted travelers.
I was paired with Candie,a blind woman from Seattle."The whole sights thing doesn't excite
me,"she said."Tell me what people are doing even if it's just someone sleeping on the
sidewalk-that is more interesting to me than There's a tree over here with yellow leaves.'"I
looked out of the bus window.Along the roadside were hairdressers who'd hung mirors on trees,
shaving customers on low chairs.I told Candie how cars here drive on the left, and how clearly
marked road lines were almost universally ignored.
I was beginning to notice how speaking these details aloud made me more observant.Things I
might have otherwise overlooked or skimmed past became more visible to me when I put them into
words. In naming them,I also saved them into memory.
We eventually arrived in Ranthambore, one of the best places in India to spot wild tigers.
Touring the park in an open-topped bus,we spotted tiger tracks-but no tiger.Admittedly,I was
disappointed.Candie wasn't."Just moving through the wildemess in the open air,"she said,
holding tight to the handlebar,"had been exciting enough."
These words reminded me of the difference between how blind and sighted people experience
travel:For sighted travelers,it's more like watching a film as they tend to rely on immediate visual
cues to form quick and vivid impressions. For blind ones, the world reveals itself more slowly,
through layers of sound,touch and smell.It's a more immersive,interpretive process-just like
reading a novel, where the story unfolds through detail and imagination. And the book is often
better than the film.
24.Why did the author start his journey?
A.To satisfy his curiosity
B.To spend his vacation.
C.To help disabled people
D.To heighten his senses.
25.What appealed to Candie most during the journey?
A.Traffic rules.
B.Local customs.
C.Beautiful scenery.
D.People's activities.
26.How did describing details affect the author?
A.It refreshed his memory.
B.It boosted his social skills.
C.It sharpened his perception.
D.It encouraged him to speak up.
27.What message is conveyed in the text?
A.Don't judge a book by its cover
B.Every cloud has a silver lining.
C.Actions speak louder than words
D.Slow tasting reveals true flavor

Today, with the help of AI tools, anyone can instantly generate impressive architectural images.
Yet this raises a serious question for architects:if technology lowers the technical barrier, what
remains the true value of design? The answer, many experts believe, lies in deeper philosophical
thinking.
Architecture is not only about structure. It also reflects how humans understand life. This
understanding begins with the individual-how a building can shape people's emotions. It then
extends to the community-whether a neighborhood design brings people together or drives them
apart.Ultimately,it touches upon time itself-how to balance the preservation of historical identity
with the need for change.
AI can copy thousands of design styles, but it cannot make value judgments. It doesn't know
why some designs are good in a moral or human sense. For instance,a library in Colombia places
its reading rooms, not offices,in the brightest and highest spaces-a design choice symbolizing
equality and care.As scholar Nayef Al-Rodhan points out,"Good design should possess valuable
qualities, including respect, inclusion, and safety, which cannot be left to AI to handle."
In the future, the best architects may not be those who master AI tools, but those who
comprehend philosophical reflection.Saudi Arabia's project "The Line"is a case in point.Designed
to let residents live in harmony with nature, the city spans 170 kilometres in length yet is only 200
metres wide, with no cars,no streets, and a transit system that reaches any destination within five
minutes.Whether The Line succeeds or fails,it reminds us that although technology can help us
design the city,it cannot judge for us what kind of life is worth living, and AI can't fathom the
deepest beliefs we have for our lives.
Freed from repetitive drafting work, architects in the age of AI must think more deeply about
humanity, community, and sustainability. The great designs of the future will emerge where
technology meets philosophy, not where one replaces the other
28.What is the main function of paragraph 2 in the passage?
A.To introduce examples of architecture.
B.To compare architecture with philosophy.
C.To present architecture from a philosophical view.
D.To explain how AI will change future construction.
29.What can we learn from the example of the library in Colombia?
A.Great design is human-centered.
B.AI can understand public buildings.
C.Symbolic meaning should be considered.
D.Equality is the core value of modern design
30.What does the underlined word "fathom'in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Decline.
B.Understand.C.Recover.
D.Measure.
31.According to the passage, what should architects do in the age of AI?
A.Shift from drawing to building
B.Employ AI as a powerful tool.
C.Prioritize philosophy over function.
D.Bring soul and meaning to designs.

When biologist Keng-Lou James Hung visited a coastal habitat in San Diego,he expected to
find a diverse bee community. The area looked healthy and nearly untouched.Yet almost every bee
he saw was a western honey bee. This surprised him because the western honey bee is not native to
California.
Hung and his team counted bees visiting flowers and tracked how quickly pollen (
disappeared.Their study, published in Insect Conservation and Diversity, found that wild western
honey bees accounted for about 98%of the total bee biomass (in the area.By the end of a
flower's first day, roughly 80%of the available pollen had been removed.
Why were wild western honey bees so successful? These honey bees live in colonies with
thousands of workers and can tell one another where food is.Most native bees,by contrast, live and
search for food alone."It's like a local grocery store trying to compete against Walmart,"Hung said.
Pollen is essential food for young bees.If one species reaches flowers early and takes most of it,
some native females may struggle to raise their young.
Still,Hung is not calling for an end to beekeeping.Managed western honey bees are important
to agriculture, especially when huge numbers are needed to pollinate crops such as California
almonds.The problem depends on place.In Europe,western honey bees are native.In California's
natural areas, however, large wild populations may compete with more than 700 native bee species
for limited food.Once wild colonies spread, controlling them is difficult.
"Context is king,"Hung said.Putting more hives (on farms may support food production.
Adding them to protected habitats could have a different result. For people hoping to help bees,
simply counting bees is not enough. They also need to ask which species are present, how many of
each there are,and whether flowers can feed them all.
32.What surprised Hung about the area?
A.A wide variety of bee species.
B.Undisturbed bee habitat
C.Sudden pollen disappearance
D.Westemn honey bee dominance
33.What makes western honey bees similar to Walmart?
A.Their effective team cooperation.
B.Their strong internal competition.
C.Their exceptional individual ability.
D.Their reliance on locals'support.
34.Which saying best reflects Hung's view in the last paragraph?
A.Strong ones will win.
B.One way isn't for everything.
C.Nature can solve problems itself.
D.More people make work easier
35.Which is the best title for the text?
A.Westemn Honey Bees:Farm Helpers,Wild Competitors
B.Western Honey Bees:Key Partners for California Farms
C.Bee Conservation:Adding Hives to Protected Habitats
D.Bee Conservation:The More Bees,the Better for Nature

In Jingdezhen, known as China's capital of porcelain,a quiet change is taking place. The city
now offers visitors more than just finished porcelain products.36
The experience follows a clear process guided by skilled artisans.Visitors first roll the clay to
remove the air inside and make it soft. Then,at a turntable, they shape the material with their hands
and cups, bowls or small vases slowly take form.
37 After shaping, they add colors or
words to the work, which is then fired in a kiln ()Days later,it is mailed to their home,
bringing a pleasant surprise.
This kind of experience differs greatly from buying a finished product.A store product may be
perfect.It offers little emotional connection,though.38
Every small imperfection-an
uneven edge or a fingerprint-tells a story. The waiting time adds meaning. When the package
finally arrives, opening it feels like meeting an old friend.Pride and joy come from the
whole-hearted dedication
39
During the process, local artisans share knowledge of traditional techniques.
Ancient skills become real and touchable.Visitors learn about the seventy-two steps of porcelain
making, gaining a deep insight into this time-honored Chinese craft.
Today, pottery workshops have grown into a popular highlight of Jingdezhen's cultural
tourism.
40 More importantly, they connect visitors to tradition in a meaningful way.
A.The process takes patience and focus.
B.It invites them to create their own china
C.It also integrates tradition into technology.
D.That's because it never bears your own touch
E.They meet people's desire for hands-on experiences.
F.But a self-made piece is heavy with unique memories.
G.The experience helps build a living link to cultural roots.

The Warmth in the Heavy Snow
Last Saturday,a record-breaking snowstorm swept across New York City without warning
The wind roared like a wounded beast, its icy breath tearing through the streets and shaking every
window.Snowflakes poured down from the gray sky, covering the tall buildings and making them
hard to see clearly.People could almost see nothing. The city that never sleeps fell into an icy
silence-every street, road and rooftop all buried under thick snow, which looked bright in the
weak light.
I woke up with an empty stomach, only to find the fridge was completely empty too:no milk
for coffee,no bread for toast, not an even single egg left. When I checked the cupboard, there was
nothing left inside.I knew I had to go shopping at once,or I'd be stuck without basic supplies for
the rest of the storm. But when I tried to open the front door,it wouldn't move even an inch.Heavy
snow had gathered up tightly against the door all night, forming a hard wall that locked me inside.I
pushed and pulled many times. My shoulders ached and I was out of breath. But all my efforts were
in vain. The snow held firm, blocking me from the outside world.
Staring out of the window helplessly,I watched the snow flying wildly in the terribly cold
wind.Travel bans(出行禁令)had shut down almost all traffic across the city, and there was no
sign of people on the street.A wave of fear and anxiety swept over me,cold and sharp as the wind
outside. My parents were working far away in another state, and the phone lines had gone dead
hours ago,so I had no way to reach anyone for help.Just as I sat on the floor hopeless and alone,a
weak but clear knock on the door broke the terrible silence.

【应用文答案】Dear Tom,
How is everything going? I’m writing to discuss our plan for this year’s Science Festival in November.
Here’s my idea. We could organize three main activities: a student innovation exhibition, a robotics competition, and a guest lecture by a scientist. The exhibition allows students to showcase their own hand-made projects, the competition encourages teamwork and problem-solving, and the lecture can inspire those who are curious about science. I believe this mix of hands-on activities and expert insight will appeal to a wide range of students.
Would you like to add anything, perhaps something from your own school experience? I’m also wondering whether you could help invite an English-speaking scientist to give the lecture online.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
【续写答案】范文
“Hello? Is anybody in?” It was Mrs. Wilson, my next-door neighbor. I yelled at the top of my voice to tell her that I was trapped inside. Hearing my cry for help, she comforted me and told me to stay calm. Then she promised to ask more neighbors for help at once. It was only a few minutes, but it felt like centuries. Finally, several kind neighbors rushed over with shovels, brooms and brushes. Despite the biting cold, they worked together to clear the snow beside my door bit by bit.
After twenty minutes of hard work, the door was finally opened. I stepped out with tears of gratitude rolling down my cheeks. Their faces were red with cold, but gentle smiles were on their lips. Mrs. Wilson handed me a cup of steaming tea, warming my hand and heart instantly. Some neighbors also offered to clean my yard and share some food with me. On that freezing snowy day in New York, I truly felt the warmth of the neighborhood. The heavy snow could freeze the whole city, but it could never freeze the kindness between people, reminding me that love and care are always around us.
